"I'm coming."

Sid fell backwards onto his bed. "You say that a lot when you talk to me."

"I'll say it when I get there, too" Piper replied. "Because I'm coming."

He felt silly for the way he felt when he talked to her, but he couldn't help it. It was just too comfortable, and he enjoyed how she teased him. Even now, as Piper protested his denial for anything birthday-related, she insisted she was coming that Friday afternoon and staying until he blew out some candles.

"No blowing of candles?? No blowing of dick."

"Okay that is NOT fair" Sid said, followed by a high pitched laugh that only he could produce. "You're cruel!"

"You're the only man I know of who would think a girl coming to visit him was a cruel act" she teased back. "Just say yes so I don't feel like a stalker."

He had a closed-lipped smile that was so large his cheeks hurt. "Okay yes, you can come visit this weekend. But you KNEW that." He heard Piper clapping gleefully and it only made him smile more. "You're goofy, Piper."

"You just wait" she said, ignoring him. "I'll make it all worth your while and I promise not to go overboard, okay? Honestly...I just want to see you. Last weekend was too fun."

He'd been thinking the same thing all week. It was surprising, even to himself, how much he was falling for her. It also made him extremely nervous as well, but he desperately wanted to feel the feelings he was having. It was too good of a thing to let go just because he was nervous of all that might come with it.

"So I have to do some on-air commentary for a television station that day" Sid told her. "It shouldn't take long and it's only in Halifax, so I'll be ready in time to pick you up."

Piper giggled. "Promise not to leave me standing on the dock like a lost puppy?"

"Promise."

"Because you're trustworthy, right?"

He smirked. "Always."

"As sturdy as your shoulders?"

"And my thighs" he added, hearing her laugh again. "If I can say that..."

"Of course you can. Those things were built for hockey!"

There was a pause and Sid waited, because he knew what was coming.

"...and for fucking, really" Piper added.

Sid laughed. "I knew you were going there."

"How CAN'T I?" she said in defense. "Do you know what you do to me?"

Running a hand through his dark hair, Sid debated between answering her truthfully and answering her really truthfully. When he looked beside him at the spot where she should be laying instead of where she was laying, a naughty smile played across his face. "I think I might know what I do to you, but I'm not sure. Better help me out."

On the other line, Piper sunk under her covers. She looked beside her at the spot where Sid should've been but wasn't. Somehow, she still felt as horny as if he was there. "Well....I think you have an idea of how wet you get me..."

Sid closed his eyes, dark lashes resting calmly against his skin. "I think I got that, yes."

"Mmm hmm." Piper closed her eyes. "Annndd....your mouth - do you know what your mouth does to me?"

It doesn't do enough, that's what, he thought. "Tell me."

Sid's voice was getting lower, while Piper felt her heart beat getting faster. "Your mouth knows exactly where to kiss me..."

"And my tongue knows just about every area on you that deserves to be licked." He was envisioning past experiences with Piper as he spoke, losing himself in his own memories. Needing to get more comfortable, Sid lifted one arm behind his head, propping him up slightly as he rested the phone against the inside of his bicep. His other hand made a slow trek south below the band of his sweatpants.

"Can we talk about your hands?" Piper asked, her voice taunting him.

Sid grabbed his hardening dick. "Yes. Let's talk about my hands."

"When you pull my hair…when you get really into it?"

Her breathing was heavy, even on the phone. Sid knew she was as into it as he was. Her smooth voice coaxed him, urging him forward, forcing his hand to stroke harder. "I can't help myself" he replied, trying not to moan when he spoke. He licked his lips. "Do you know what you do to me?"

"I know exactly what I do to you, Crosby."

When Piper said his name, his breathing hitched ever so slightly. His grip tightened around himself, feeling his need growing further. "Do you know what your hips do to me?" He exhaled into the phone, images of her flashing in his mind. "And do you know why I like to pull your hair?"

Piper wasn't sure she heard him correctly because all she could focus on what how his voice sounded against her ear. He had such a presence about him that he didn't even need to be in the same room to have the affect he was having on her.

"Hmm, baby, tell me" she breathed. "Tell me while I touch myself…"

Sid was doing what he could to not pant. He was rock hard and full in his own grip, working himself when it should've been her. The way she spoke, her voice and everything he knew about her facial expressions as he brought her to new levels of pleasure, it was all enough to push him over the edge. He didn't care he would get off as fast as a teenage boy would; all he knew was he wanted her instead of his own hand.

"Piper…"

"Tell me what you're thinking" she moaned.

He could barely think as it was. Gritting his teeth he forced himself to ease up, his hand working slower. "I'm thinking about licking up your back…along your spine…until I get you to squirm under my touch..."

Piper bit her lip, nodding, rubbing, wanting more.

"And I know you like it when I bite your neck, so you know I'm going to leave a mark for all your yoga students to see…"

She exhaled hard. "Yes, Sid - mark me…"

"You want me, don't you." Sid started moving his hand over himself faster. "You want me to take you like the little naughty girl you are--"

"--Fuck, Sid." Piper moaned his name loud, bringing herself closer and closer. "Yes, I do. I really do…"

Sid could envision her hips grinding against her own hand, delicate but strong, working her perfect body over because he couldn't. Oh but he would….in a few days he would, and he'd make her feel like it was her birthday, not his.

And then he heard Piper's breathing increase rapidly in the way he was quickly learning was a very good sign. "That's it, baby. Touch yourself the way I would."

Piper was moaning hard now. "You fuck me so well, Sid..."

He was reaching a point of no return. He didn't care if she heard him grunting and breathing her name, because she was breathing and moaning his. Sid hadn't called her with this in mind in the first place, but fuck was it ever a bonus.

"I can't….I think I'm….AhhSid!"

That's all he heard of Piper's orgasm before he erupted. His eyes flung open in awe of the power of his own release; wave after heavy wave, his body emptying his stress and his last bit of energy of the day. It was if he hadn't jerked off in weeks.

Once the lights came back on in his head and his breathing was under control, he sat up. "Shit" he said, looking at his lap. His sweatpants were a mess. With a small laugh, he fell back on the bed exhausted and already feeling better. "Piper?"

"Hi…" Her voice was timid, a complete 180 degree change from just minutes ago.

"You okay?" Sid took another glance down at his sweats and sighed.

"Oh, yeah…you know…just sitting here in bed….looking at my ruined panties…." She looked down at herself and her hand, both definitely too wet to bring to bed with her now. As she sat up, she could hear Sidney laughing on the other line. She listened, her lips forming a smirk. "Are you laughing?"

"I'm sorry" he said, his laughter getting louder. "But you should see me."

Piper giggled. "Nooo, you should see ME."

They both started to laugh, and then they both happily sighed and fell back on their pillows.

Sid gazed up at his bedroom ceiling, a dumb smile on his face. "Wish you were here."

In her bed, Piper smiled just as dumbly. "Me too."

* * *

In Cole Harbour, Sid knocked twice before he opened the door to his childhood home. "Mom?"

"In here, hunny!"

It was the evening before his birthday, and in usual Crosby family fashion, his mother insisted on making him dinner. When their son was actually in the area on his birthday, it was a rare occasion but Trina and Troy always made the most of it.

"What's this?" Trina said with a smile. She ran her fingers around the strong jaw of her only son, gripping him loosely at the chin. "Stubble?"

Sid rolled his eyes. "Very funny."

Trina patted his cheek. "You know I'm teasing."

He did know, and he didn't mind. His mother could do no wrong in his eyes, and he'd endure whatever joking she made with ease. He loved her too much to do anything but.

"What's on the menu this year?" he asked, walking over. Two pots were on the stove; one was was at a rolling boil, steam pouring forth from the mouth of the large vessel. The other smaller pot contained a creamy sauce. Sid peered over, getting a face full of warm steam but also a medley of aromas. "Looks good, whatever it is."

"Vodka sauce." Trina moved in front of the pot, inspecting alongside Sidney. She stirred a wooden spoon in the pot that contained the creamy red mixture. "Almost done too. Go grab your sister, will you?"

"She upstairs?"

"Should be, yes."

"Where's Dad?" Sid asked, taking off his hat.

Trina waved in the direction of their back yard. "Out there working on something, who knows. Been out there all afternoon, probably just napping and pretending he isn't."

Sid had to smile. If his father was taking a break from his usual busy-body ways, he'd be surprised. But if there was anyone who deserved a break, it was Troy Crosby…because Troy Crosby never took breaks.

Deciding he'd check on him second, Sid went down the hallway to find Taylor. She was in her room, watching tv and laying on her bed. She was dressed down comfortably in her favorite Shattuck-St. Mary's sweatshirt and jeans. Her hair was pulled up in a ponytail, which still looked a little like it had been shoved under a helmet all day. When Taylor saw Sid enter, a smile immediately lit up her face.

"Hey, you're here!"

"Just got here" Sid replied, closing the door softly. "What's up?"

She shrugged a shoulder, clicking off her tv. "Nothing. Tired."

"Practice?"

Taylor nodded.

"Me too." Sid rubbed the back of his neck. "Think I actually tweaked something in my shoulder."

Sitting up just as Sid sat down next to her, Taylor's face bent into a frown. "Don't tell Dad that--"

"--you know I won't." He gave her a sarcastic side-eye. "You know better."

"Where does it hurt?"

Sid reached behind his shoulder blade, pointing with his thumb. Once again, he'd gone too hard during intervals that morning. 12 stations, 10 seconds rest between, 4 cycles. He'd done it three times, and the third time…he felt it. Now his back was tight and a small pain pinched somewhere beneath his left shoulder blade.

"Rhomboid?" Taylor asked.

"Probably." He moved his back a little, as it hurt even to point it out. "My neck too."

Taylor slumped over, her light brown hair shifting over one shoulder. "We're a mess" she said with sideways smile, a mirror of her brother's.

Sid laughed. "I guess we are - although at least I got dressed for your birthday dinner when it happened."

She opened her mouth in disgust. "Sidney!! Don't even!"

"Kidding!" He ruffled her hair, making it even messier. "I think dinner's almost ready, since Mom made me come rouse you from whatever you were doing."

"Ugh wait, not yet. Hang with me for a bit before we have to go out there."

Agreeing to the idea they both needed time alone together just to relax, the pair slid back further onto the bed and propped their backs against the wall. Taylor sat with her body turned slightly towards her older brother.

"So what's new?" she asked. "How was Vail?"

Sid thought back to the week of training in the high elevations of the Rocky Mountains. It had been good, but all he remembered was the afterglow of having Piper visit, and the need he had to see her again.

"It was beneficial" he replied, avoiding any talk of Piper. "It was great to play with some of the guys, too."

Taylor smiled. "I talked to Jess Duchene and she was beyond excited that Matty was gone for a week." Her laugh turned to a giggle. "I told her I felt the same about my brother, too." She scrunched her face up as she laughed, watching Sidney make a face at her.

"When you're away at camp, I don't tell everyone's brothers how awesome it is that you're gone!" he chirped.

"Or DO you?" Taylor laughed again. "Sorry - you know I'm joking."

"I do, I do." He shifted his eyes towards hers and held back a smirk. "Maybe."

Taylor slapped his knee. "So what else is going on? You leave for Pittsburgh in a couple weeks - how are you killing the time? You must be excited."

Fucking an incredible woman I never expected to fall for. Jerking off to her on the phone while she moans. Flying to see her when I'd never guessed I would do something like that…for anyone.

These thoughts came to mind, but Sid held them all back. It was entirely too soon to tell any of his family he was dating Piper, or dating anyone at all. His father would find out last of all, even if his mom or sister should find out. It's just the way it was in his house and always would be. Hockey came first to Troy. Always.

"I think I might be heading to Whitby to visit Nealer" he said instead. "Could be pretty fun because him and Ali build some sort of lake house and they're throwing their first party there."

Taylor gasped. "What!? That's so cool! What's it like??"

"I don't know yet, goofball. That's why I'm going to visit."

"When? Will you send me pics?"

Her expression spoke of nothing but excitement. Sid knew the real reason why.

"I'll send you pics of the house, sure--"

"--I never said I wanted pics of anything else!" Her voice was already defensive, and it made Sid laugh.

"You've had a crush on Neal since you first met him."

Taylor chuffed. "Have not."

"Have TO, Taylor!"

"SO?" She rolled her eyes. "Whatever, just send me pics, okay? I'm excited."

Sid nodded, a knowing smile crossing his face. "I'll see what I can do."

"KIDS!"

Taylor and Sid both groaned softly.

"Yeah, Mom?" Taylor yelled.

"DINNER'S READY."

The siblings sighed. Sid glanced over and Taylor gave him a sympathetic look. "Guess it's time."

She nodded. "Happy Birthday, by the way."

"Thank you."

They smiled at one another, and then Taylor wrapped her arms around her big brother, hugging him close.

"I miss you, Sidney."

"I miss you, too, Taylor."

When they broke the hug, Sid nodded towards the door. "Come on, let's go. And when it's time, I'll let you have my piece of cake."

"Gee thanks" Taylor replied.

Sid rubbed her shoulder as he let her exit the bedroom first.

Piper sighed. She had no idea how she would find enough people this late in the summer to interview and eventually sign on to help with the studio and easing up the schedule for everyone, herself most of all. As she went about writing and submitting the job posting to several job sites and local papers, she simply crossed her fingers and wished for the best. She would make it work whether she hired another person or not.

When she first started the yoga studio, it had just been her and Danika. She'd been friends with Dani for a long time, meeting halfway through their college years when they attended The Art of Living summer yoga camp in Portland, Maine. Once they met, they became fast friends, and Dani was the first person Piper thought of when she decided to open her own studio.

As the clientele grew and the studio became more popular, Piper hired Amy, who fit in just as well personality-wise and discipline-wise, and was their first choice to hire.

Now….Piper would be lucky to find another woman that fit into the mix, but she was hopeful. She had to be.

When finished with all the application and distribution process, Piper closed up shop for the day. Locking the doors to the studio, she stared up at the letters of the sign, noticing the curly-q ends of the letters she'd chosen.

Damn you, Crosby, she thought with a smile.

Off she went to tackle the rest of her day; stopping by her favorite locally owned coffee shop to start. When she grabbed herself a latte, she decided to make one more stop and visit her father at the restaurant before she headed home.

Just a few blocks away was the restaurant her father, David, managed. It was a rather unassuming building fashioned in a salt box home style that was common to New England. A wooden sign hung from a wrought iron post stating the name of the restaurant, lights illuminating the tasteful design.

Piper took the steps two at a time up to the entrance, where she was greeted by the maitre-d. It was Lou, the same maitre-d that Piper had known her whole life. He was a kindly old man, who had a thick Acadian accent mixed with his native Boston cadence.

"Miss Lake! My, what a fine surprise" he said, his gray brows rising at the sight of her. "How are you doing this fine evening?"

Piper gave Lou a quick kiss on the cheek. "Good to see you too! I've never been better." She put a hand on her hip and gave him a sassy smirk. "Please tell me you've been the same or I'll take that kiss back."

Lou laughed right out loud. "Always a spirited one you are" he said, chuckling. "Of course I've been good and it looks like things just got better."

Piper smiled when she saw Lou give her a wink. "Good. I don't have to take anything back, then. Is my father available? Or should I come back?"

"Oh, I think he's around here somewhere." Lou escorted her past the lobby into the dimly-lit dining room. Already a healthy-sized crowd was gathered at it hadn't even struck the 5 o'clock hour.

As Lou led her along the edge the hallway leading from the dining area to the bar, he waved down David to grab his attention.

"There, see? Just milling around like he always is" Lou joked. "You take care, okay Miss Lake?"

"You got it, Lou."

He left her to meet with her father, as the front lobby needed him as the crowd was gaining size the closer it got to prime time.

David approached from behind the bar, giving his daughter a large hug. "Hiya honey."

"Hi Dad. Busy?"

"Not yet, but even if I was, you know you come first." His large and friendly smile grew as he wrapped an arm around her. "How about my office?"

"Sounds good." Piper followed him to his office in the back of the restaurant, away from the noise and bustle of the front.

"So what brings you in tonight?" Her father asked. He smoothed his tie down as he took a seat across from her.

"I think I need to hire someone for the studio" she began, immediately wishing she'd rephrased that. "I mean - I amhiring someone new, I'm just nervous."

David cocked his head. "Why another person?"

Because I want to visit my boyfriend in another country too often to handle my business the way it is. Because I'm not sure this will work with him unless I travel more. Because I'm scared.

She said none of that, of course. Piper simply explained the business was growing and such were the consequences.

"Do you have any advice?" she asked him.

David took a second to study the worry in his daughter's gaze. She had the same green eyes he did, but had a mix of his and her mother's hair color. He had dark hair, April had blonde, naturally wavy hair. Their son also took on the blonde features and April's blue eyes, but Piper would always have the same eyes as he did.

And a father knew his daughter's eyes, and none were more telling than his daughter's. "You're worried, that's clear."

Piper sat up straight. "Says who?"

"Says the expert" David said, the corner of his mouth rising. "Me."

She smiled. "I can't argue that."

"So why are you nervous? You've hired great people so far on your own."

I'm nervous because I feel like I'm going to get so tangled in this relationship that I lose my passion all together.

"Piper?"

She'd gone into her head again, and the man who noticed this time was her father. "Yeah, sorry - yes, I'm nervous." She looked up at her dad, who sat waiting for more. "Has mom talked to you recently?"

"About what? You hiring someone?" he asked.

"Yeah….." She hesitated. "….or anything else?"

David thought for a moment, then shook his head. "No, she mentioned anything. Should she have mentioned something?"

"No, nothing's wrong - if you're thinking that." Piper's heart was beating. I should just tell him. Then everyone will know. Then maybe he can tell me it's going to be okay. Hiring someone new doesn't mean I'm losing my business….or my mind.

"Piper." David's tall frame leaned towards her, a firm but caring look in his gaze. "I know you're holding something back. And I won't push you - but I will worry."

Uggghhhhhh guilt trrriiipppp, she thought with a sigh. Her eyes fell to the latte she cupped in her hands, her heartbeat thumping in her throat all the way up to her temples.

"I'm dating Sidney Crosby."

It just came out. All of it. All at once.

She looked at her dad, whose face immediately changed.

"What?" He said this with a short laugh. "Sidney Crosby?"

She nodded. "Pittsburgh Penguins, from Nova Scotia--"

"--Yeah, I know who he is, honey" David said, his laughter sounding more like he was in disbelief than in shock. "So how--"

"--I met him at Allison Diserelli's wedding" she said, cutting in. "I don't know how it happened either. I just know I met him there, and it's been one big blur ever since."

David leaned back in his chair. He looked out the window, rubbing his mouth. His eyes shifted towards his daughter's, who now looked desperate for acceptance. "And this is real? You're not joking? Because, I mean…..you can see how this takes me a little by surprise--"

Piper glared at him. "Thanks a lot, Dad."

"No no noooo, I did not mean it like that and you know it." David stared at her. "Right?"

"Right." She took a sip of her drink. "So you know, he doesn't live here, and if this is going to work and I have to take off work more often…."

"Ahhhh" David said with a nod. "Now the pieces come together."

Piper was nodding, feeling something between tremendous relief and tremendous fright. It was out now. Her parents knew, and whatever they thought about it was out of her hands.

"Well, I can say this with confidence" David continued. "I'm happy for you."

Exhaling, Piper's face lifted. "Really?"

"Yes, honey. You deserve…." He shook his head, finding it hard to believe and even harder to say. "You deserve all the happiness in the world, and Sidney Crosby, of all people, has seemed to do it."

"It is wild, isn't it?" Piper remarked, her smile growing the more she realized her dad supported her. "And you can see why I need to hire someone to help cover while I go visit him?"

"And he is coming to visit you, right?"

She nodded. "He has already."

David sat up. "You mean Sidney Crosby was in Bar Harbor??"

Piper laughed. "Last weekend, Dad."

"And you DIDN'T INTRODUCE HIM TO ME?"

"Dad!!" Piper started to laugh even harder when she say how serious her dad was. "You selfish brat!"

"YOU!" David teased. "No, all joking aside - you keep him to yourself until you're ready, okay?"

"Thank you." Piper looked at her dad, who was still aghast at this newfound knowledge. "I promise to bring him by sometime."

David grinned. "That'd be cool…but don't worry." He sighed happily. "And of all things, do not worry about hiring someone new to help fill in. It's not every day that you get say you date Sid the Kid."

* * *

3 days later, Sid found himself in a plain metal chair in front of several cameras, lights, panels, and about 15 people. His mic was being adjusted, wound up around the back of his suit jacket to where it was clipped to the right lapel.

He wiped his hands on his knees as he waited. As casually as he could, he glanced down at his watch. 6 hours until Piper.

"Okay, Sidney, we're ready."

He gave a single nod, folding his hands in the middle of his lap.

One of the TSN reporters from Halifax sat in the chair in front of him, a small stack of papers with his prepared questions in his hands, along with plenty of statistics. He had a slick look to him, and he was fairly young. He gave Sid a genuine smile.

"Alright, so this begins the second portion of the interview" the reporter said. "We'll pick up right where we left off."

Sid waited as more lights came up. The heat in the room could be felt almost immediately, especially since he was dressed in a suit and tie.

The reporter went through the questions one by one. The focus of the interview revolved around turning another year older and another year trying to shed of his babyface image. It was a fun interview, but nerve-wracking. It wasn't lost on him that he was still, and would always be, "Sid the Kid" to many, and he didn't mind. No matter what the topic or the question, Sid answered all of them as professionally as ever.

Questions about his summer training with Andy O'Brien and his week in Vail were brought up. His pre-season schedule pending with the Pittsburgh Penguins was also brought up, and Sid gave as much information as he was allowed to. He'd just gotten the schedule himself, but it would be weeks before the general public were given access to it. He played it off as though he knew very little.

Questions about his newly purchased home between Cole Harbour and Halifax were thrown in to personalize him a little, giving life to Canada's "Kid". He answered all of them graciously.

By the time the next break occurred, he had a little under an hour and a half left to get to Yarmouth. As a woman came up to him to touch up the makeup on his forehead, his eyes moved past to the reporter still sitting in his chair.

"Do you know how many more questions are left?" he asked politely.

"Only about five more."

Sid nodded, trying not to move too much as the woman dabbed at his hairline. When she moved away, he glanced down at his watch nervously. 5 more questions, probably another 10 minutes, a few handshakes, and then I'll be out….I should send her a text just incase…

"Sidney?"

He looked up. "Yes?"

"We're ready."

Flattening his tie, he smiled. "So am I."

More than five questions were asked of him, but he never showed his irritation. This was part of the job, and he knew he'd still be able to make it to the harbor in time.

By the time the interview was over and they took a few more pictures, Sid made sure to thank everyone personally before he left. When he was finally outside and into the much cooler air and bright sun, he breathed a sigh of relief.

He glanced down at his watch one more time as he slid black sunglasses over nose. 4 hours. Not bad.

When he got to his SUV, he stripped his suit jacket and tie off, undoing three buttons near his neck. He pulled the chain he always wore out from under his white undershirt, then rolled the sleeves. He felt almost immediate relief from the hot and stuffy conditions of the interview room.

Pulling out his cell, he sent Piper a text to let her know he'd be there on time. Without wasting another minute, he climbed into the vehicle and began the trip to begin the weekend he'd been dying for all week.

6-28-14 ** A NOTE TO MY READERS **

As a result of James getting traded, I've found myself at a loss for words; a loss I'm not sure I'll be quick to recover from. The trade was a hard hit, and it will take some time for me to get over the initial hurt.

I wanted to post a message to at least tell all of you who have followed my stories up to this point that after this, I'm not sure how long it's going to be before I post a new story. James will forever be a Penguin to me, and likely to many of you as well. I'm just not sure how to go forward right now. As a result - I can't promise I'll be back, but I hope to be. I really do.

Let's let the dust settle and the hurt fade...and maybe we'll find one other again on this wonderful site.

Thank you all again for your support...It really has made writing so much fun for me, and I don't want to go forward with another story until it's fun again. Right now - that doesn't seem plausible.

I'll leave it open for any of you to message me anytime, if you'd like. I will occasionally check in just to see how everyone's doing. :-)

Regards,
Winter
