Redemption of a Puck Slut: Part II

March 17, 2014

March, 17 2014

Dear Diary,

I have been so paranoid since I saw Cam last week. I called Carli to see if she knew why he was in Chicago.

“I think it’s for his job,” she replied. “I guess after his internship ended they hired him. I don’t know if he requested to work in Chicago, or if that’s just where he was assigned.”

“This sucks. I already hated it here enough, I did not need this.” I sighed.

“Could you get transferred back to Pittsburgh?” She suggested. “I mean you probably can’t skate that much longer now that you’re pregnant and all.”

“I know. I should talk to Sid, maybe he can get me out of it.”

I considered calling him after I got off the phone with Carli, but I waited. Chicago was a pretty big city and I could probably avoid running into Cam.

-

Jon has stopped bothering me before practice, but he still talks to me.

The ice girls are improving slightly, but they still have a long way to go.

-

After the Blackhawks game against the Red Wings yesterday I saw him waiting for me. He was just casually standing there, looking completely innocent. Very unlike the creep I knew he was.

I stood around the corner from him, hiding, and hoping he wouldn’t come any closer.

“What are you doing?” Jon walked up behind me, scaring me and causing me to jump.

I turned to face him, and I must have looked terrified and ridiculously pale.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you so much. What’s wrong?” He asked.

“I’m trying to avoid someone.” I replied, instinctively moving closer to him.

“Who?” He asked peeking around the corner.

“That skinny, nerdy looking guy over there in the brown jacket,” I said.

“He doesn’t look that scary,” Jon said smiling.

“He is. He’s terrifying,” I said looking up at him like a small child.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” He said putting his arm around me.

“That’s my ex-boyfriend. I think he might have followed me to Chicago,” I said, my voice starting to shake.

“Do you want me to beat him up for you?” He joked.

“Actually I would,” I replied still staring at Cam.

“Maybe we could talk to him? That might be better?” He suggested.

“Okay, but only if you come with me,” I said grabbing onto his arm.

We walked up to Cam, who pretended to be surprised to see me.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, trying not to sound terrified.

“Just watching a hockey game with my co-workers,” he replied smiling, but I knew what went on behind that smile. “And I wanted to see my girl skate.” He reached out to touch my face and I flinched. Jon slapped his hand away from me.

“Don’t touch her.” He said sternly.

“Hey, calm down,” Cam said holding his hands up. “Who is this, your new boyfriend?”

“No. And I’m not ‘your girl’,” I said quietly.

“You are such a whore. Are you sleeping with him too?” he asked getting mad.

“That’s enough,” Jon said getting in between us.

“I don’t know what your problem is, dude,” Cam said backing away.

“Leave her alone,” Jon replied, pulling me away.

He offered to drive me home, which I gladly accepted. I insisted he stay for dinner to repay him for everything.

“So, are you going to tell me what happened between you and that freak?” He asked after I finished making dinner. “If you don’t want to, that’s okay.”

“It’s kind of a long story, but he posted a video of us having sex on facebook, except he made it look like I was sleeping with someone else. He pretty much ruined my life back home, so I moved to Pittsburgh as soon as the opportunity came up.”

“Wow, that is really fucked up,” he said. “And now he’s in Chicago?”

“I guess it’s for his job. I don’t know if it’s permanent or not. Would you like something to drink? I think I have some wine that would go well with this,” I offered, trying to change the subject.

“Yeah, that would be great.”

I brought one wine glass and a bottle from the kitchen and poured some for him.

“You aren’t having any?” He asked, taking the glass.

“No, I um,” I paused. “I’m pregnant.”

“What?” He looked surprised.

“Yeah, over four months pregnant,” I explained.

He looked shocked. “But you don’t even look fat?”

I laughed, “actually, I have gained over fifteen pounds in the last two months, but I do have a bit of a bump.”

“Really? Can I see it?” He asked apprehensively.

“Sure,” I lifted up my shirt. I had been taking pictures of it for Sid yesterday. “You can see it better if I lie down.”

We walked over to the couch and I lay down.

“Wow, that’s so big, how have you been hiding that?” he said running his hand over it gently.

“Well, it’s winter so I’ve been wearing a lot of sweatshirts. But mostly avoiding tight clothes. It’s gotten much bigger in the last few weeks.”

“When is it due?” he asked, continuing to stare at it with amusement.

“They are due in June.” I replied, “I’m having twins, one boy and one girl.”

“Oh my God, that’s so cool!” He said as I sat up. “Have you thought of names?”

“Yeah, but Sid and I haven’t really talked about it yet.”

“What are some of your favorite names?”

“I like Caroline, and Madeline. They both sort of go with my name, Emmeline.”

“I didn’t know your full name was Emmeline, that’s pretty cool. What about boy’s names?”

“I have a lot more favorites for boy’s names. Charlie, Teddy, Brian, Andrew… I used to like the name Cambridge, but it’s too much like Cam.”

“Cambridge?” He asked, “That’s not a name.”

“Yes it is, people name their kids all sorts of weird things these days,” I replied laughing. “My brother and his wife are having a baby in May and some of the names they like are totally whack.”

“Did you just say they were whack?” He laughed, and I nodded smiling. “What kind of names?”

“Like Burgundy, for a girl. Or Denmark for a boy. They’re really into names of countries. India is really popular right now; I suggested South Africa, but they didn’t like it,” I said smiling.

“Burgundy? Like Ron Burgundy from Anchorman?” Jon asked laughing.

“I’ve never seen Anchorman.”

“What? We need to watch this. I think it’s on Netflix,” he said picking up my computer. “Is this your cat?” He asked looking at the background picture on my lap top.

“Yeah, that’s Pancake. She lives with Brandon Sutter,” I explained, realizing how weird that was.

“Right, because Sid is superstitious about cats,” he replied. “Pancake, that’s an interesting name.”

“Shut up, I was like eight when I got her.”

“That’s actually kind of cute,” he replied smiling. “I found Anchorman on Netflix. Want to watch it?”

“Yeah, it’s kind of late, but why not,” I replied hooking up the HDMI cable from my tv to my computer. I didn’t feel like sleeping, not after seeing Cam, and I really didn’t want to be alone.

I fell asleep next to him on the couch halfway through the movie and woke up around 3 in the morning. I put a blanket over him and went to my bed and fell back asleep.

I made him breakfast this morning, buckwheat and blueberry banana pancakes, or course and then he had to leave for practice. They play the Flyers tomorrow in Philly, so I don’t have to skate, but I have scheduled extra practices for the ice girls. They are seriously lacking figure skating skills.

Sid and I have a Skype date tonight. I’m not sure if I want to tell him about seeing Cam or not.

Sincerely,

Emme
