Lost Girl

Love at First Sight

Being woken up by his alarm, Jake rolled over slowly and hit the off switch on the device. Taking his time to get up, he finally stood up and walked out of his clothing covered room, and into the messy living room. Looking around at the left over take out boxes, Jake sighed and began scratched the back of his uncovered torso. Arriving at his roommate Morgan’s room, he saw the food stained plates that covered the floor, side table, dresser, and even his xbox. He then knocked and began to speak.

“Come on, wake up Riels. We have to clean up the house.” He spoke as Morgan flew up at the sound of Jake’s voice. Getting up too fast, Morgan groaned as he put his hand on his pounding head.
“Shit what time is it man?” Morgan asked as Jake leaned against the doorway.
“10AM.” He answered as Morgan sighed loudly, laying back down and covering his head with the black sheets.

Jake laughed softly as he clapped his hands, encouraging his friend to get up. “Let’s go come on, we’ll go get Chipotle after.” And with that, Morgan got up and began cleaning the plates in his room. Turning around and walking back into the living room, Jake began to make his way into the kitchen area. Opening the stainless steel fridge, he came face to face to the spoiled milk, produce droppings, and spilt left overs on the racks. Covering his nose, he groaned and turned his head away.

“This is fucking nasty man!” He yelled out as Morgan walked into the kitchen juggling at least ten plates. “Oh god.” Morgan spoke as Jake grabbed the milk and quickly threw it in the garbage bin. “Guess we’re going to Longo’s too.”

After two hours of cleaning the disgusting bachelor pad, Jake threw on a pair of dark wash jeans and a Toronto Maple Leaf’s hoodie. Walking out, he saw Morgan wearing sweatpants and a plain black shirt. They both gathered their coats and shoes, and made their way down the hall and elevator to the lobby. Walking out, they were greeted by the security desk receptionist, Derek. Waving at him, they stepped into the cold Toronto street and made their way to Chipotle’s.

“We have practice tomorrow morning so we can’t be at Kadri’s apartment for too long, man.” Jake told Morgan nodded, a smile soon crossing his face.

“You excited?” Morgan asked as Jake shrugged, keeping his hands tucked in his peacoat.

Kadri, the boys teammate was having a get together with a few players and some other friends. Jake’s fling for a few months, Shannon, was going to the get together, and every time they were together, Jake would get lucky. He claimed to not having any feelings for her, but she was a nice girl and very pretty. She wasn’t his usual type, she had long straight brown hair and a nice body covered by a tan she’d gotten a month ago from her trip to Mexico. Jake always had a fun time with her, but she wasn’t what he’d consider girlfriend material, something about her was a little off, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
Continuing down the street, Jake responded the Morgan’s question. “Eh, not exactly but who care’s I’m getting some action and haven’t been able to lately because of the tight games.” Nodding, Morgan began talking about how he’d thought Shannon’s friend, Ashley was good looking. As he was trailing on about her, Jake was distracted by something else. In the distance, he came to see the figure of a short girl walking down the street with a bag of Chipotle. Why she caught his eye could only be described by the atmosphere around her. Her radiance lit up the street. Her medium lengthen ombre dark and light blonde hair was in waves cascading down her shoulders, as a black floppy-style hat sat on her head. She was wearing a black motorcycle styled leather jacket on top of her white knit sweater, her bottom half being covered by a pair of black skinny jeans. As he watched her every move, his eyes opened wide as he saw her approach a homeless man sitting on the side of the street with a ripped up Tim Horton’s cup, begging anyone walking by for change. The mysterious blonde bent down at eye level with the older man, which shocked Jake. The girl was having a conversation with the man for a few moments, until she held up the brown bag. She wasn’t going to actually give away her meal to a man she never met before was she? His thoughts were answered as she handed the bag to the poor man and stood back up, pointing to the restaurant. The homeless man nodded quickly and stood up, holding out his hand to the girl. They shook hands as he then raised his hands up in the air. The girl began to laugh, and it was a sound like no other to Jake. It was like music to his ears.

“Hey, dude we’re here. Have you been listening to a thing I said?” Morgan asked as Jake looked up at the sign and laughed awkwardly. “Oh yeah, sorry. Ashley, right?” Jake asked as Morgan scoffed under his breath and walked inside. Jake held the door, and looked back at the blonde. She was walking towards Jake, as he got a good look of her. Eyeliner covered her upper eyelid, her skin flawless and porcelain white. She had red lipstick on her lips, which never usually was Jake’s thing, but right now he felt things he never felt before. She wasn’t what he usually went for. She was different. Still looking at her, she stopped in front with the poor man as she began to speak.

“Stay safe, and enjoy your meal.” She nodded, as she waved at him. The man smiled widely at her, his teeth missing and the one’s he did have were rotten to the core. His brown skin was full of frost bite. Examining him more, Jake noticed how his eyes weren’t the same. One was brown while the other was blue. One also wouldn’t move when he’d blink. The man walked with a limp into the store, saying praises under his breath. Jake watched him as he then turned his head to the girl to see her watching the man. As he was inside Chipotle, she bundled up her heavy leather jacket and zipped it up. He kept his eyes on her, admired by her every move. Looking up, she noticed Jake looking at her, which made her smile softly, before making her way back down the street.

“Dude, come on!” Morgan cried as Jake nodded silently, walking into the restaurant. And like that, that was how Jake was tamed.
