Lost Girl

Waking up the next morning, Jake rolled over as he hit the snooze button on his alarm. He stood up slowly, letting out a groan as he looked at the time. “7:00AM.” blinked on the clock as he made his way to the living room. He peaked into Morgan’s room to see him sleeping still, the covers all over the room. Jake walked into the blonde’s room and knocked on the wood door.

“Wake up sleeping beauty, we need to be on the ice by 10 and we have a meeting at 9.” He spoke as Morgan groaned, putting a pillow over his head.

Rolling his eyes, Jake walked over to the bed and threw the pillow off of Morgan’s head and to the other side of the bed. “Dude wake up, come on.”

Morgan slowly sat up and rubbed his eyes. “I’m up, I’m up!” He announced before yawning, throwing his arms up in the air and stretching.

Jake made his way to the kitchen and began preparing a pot of coffee. Pouring the coffee mix into the machine, he let it prepare as he then grabbed a clean bowl from the dishwasher. Grabbing a box of cereal he let it fill before adding milk to his breakfast. He grabbed himself a cup of coffee and made his way into the living room while Morgan came out and did the same. Looking at the television as he turned on SportsNet, Jake began speaking to Morgan.

“So, any news with my uh, bachelorettes?” Jake asked in slightly happy tone as Morgan took a seat next to Jake, having the same breakfast.
“Yeah, tonight after the game. Ashley’s bringing her friend with her to the game tonight, courtesy of me, you’re welcome by the way. You’re taking her friend out to grab some drinks. By the way, Ashley had a new rule. No getting past first base on these dates. She said she’s not running a whore house, so yeah no fucking the girls.” Morgan told Jake as Jake slightly laughed.
“Alright, alright. No touchy touchy.” Jake said innocently, throwing his hands in the air.

The two finished their breakfast and went to their rooms to change. Jake walked into the bathroom and brushed his teeth as he looked at himself in the mirror.

“Don’t fuck this up tonight, Jake. She could be the girl you can finally settle down with. And try your best to not want to bang her. God her ass in those jeans was so, so hot-”

Jake was pulled out of his trace as Morgan yelled out to Jake. “Hey man, I’m gonna walk on over to the arena, I have to leave two seats with will call under my name. See you in an hour.”
“Alright, see you soon.” Jake yelled back as he fixed his hair and grabbed whatever he thought he’d need for tonight into a small black bag.

He slid on a pair of jeans and a long sleeve grey shirt. He tasseled his hair around, knowing he was in need for a haircut. He put his shoes on and grabbed his keys along with his phone and made his way out of the condo and to the car parking lot. He arrived to his car in the underground and jumped in, starting the car. Pulling out, he drove off and out of the underground parking. He made his way onto the Toronto street and drove towards the Air Canada Center. Arriving there in a matter of seconds, he reached the players parking and pressed his key to the sensor, which granted him entry. He drove down and parked before grabbing his belongings and heading to the elevator. Arriving on the floor where the players dressing rooms where, he was greeted by a joking Phil and Tyler who were making fun of JVR.

“James is going to be trying to get so much action in Sochi.” Tyler began as Phil laughed, JVR’s face growing annoyed.
“Oh shut up, I’m going to have to calm down a worried Phil if you don’t answer your stupid face time call, Bozie.” James announced as Jake began laughed, patting him on the back.
“See you’re being ganged up on by Hanzel and Gretel.” Jake told him as JVR shook his head. “Unbelievable, eh?”

Jake laughed as he walked into the dressing room where some of the boys were playing a game of ping pong. Dion was facing Frazer, who were both very heated and into the game. Raising an eyebrow, Jake looked at Kadri who just shook his head and turned his body to the radio to turn on some music. Fall Out Boy’s, My Song’s Know What You Did In The Dark, came on as Lupul walked in, pointing to where Kadri was standing.

“Keep that on!” He began as he sat down in his spot and grabbed his stick. He began redoing the tape job as Jake looked at Cody who was on his phone, probably texting his girlfriend.
“Where’s Randy?” Jake asked as Cody looked up, gesturing his head to his office.
“Said he’ll be out in fifteen minutes to talk about the game.” Jake nodded at Cody’s response.

Jake walked over to his reserved area, stripping himself of his clothes. He stripped off his top and slid on his under armor. He was greeted by a tap on his back, as he turned around to face Morgan.
“So I left two tickets for Ashley, and we’ll meet the girls in the hall after the game, sound good?” Morgan asked as Jake nodded, taking off his pants to already expose himself in under armor covered bottoms.

After Randy came out in the middle of Dion and Frazer’s match, he began his meeting regarding the teams game against the Ottawa Senators, to which the two were mad about. The rest of the guys laughed at their child-like behavior and gave their attention to their coach. He talked about tonight’s strategy’s, drawing on the white board behind him of some positioning. His drawings had some of the guys confused because of his lack of understanding represented in them, but he went over them again. As their meeting ended, the boys suited up in their practice gear and made their way onto the ice. Skating around the large ice, they began doing skating drills. After doing a good fifteen minutes on them, Jake, Cody, Morgan, and Carl began doing some defense drills. Practicing on passing the pucks until some of the forwards were ready to begin trying out some game-like scenarios, Jake and Cody were paired up, as Morgan stood next to Jake, the two making small talk while they did. Practice came to an end and the team came off of the ice. They undressed and were to meet back at the ACC three hours before game time. Jake grabbed his phone and keys and made his way to Chipotle to grab a burrito before having a nap for tonight’s game. He parked in front of the building once he was out of the ACC and got out of the car. This was where he first saw her. Walking inside he ordered himself a burrito and took it to go, grabbing a spice filled one. Once he finished paying, he walked out to see the same homeless man he did when he first saw his mystery girl. He made his way over to the man and looked at him in a puzzled manor.

“Uh, hey. I uh, I noticed a few days ago a young girl had given you a meal-”
“Ah yes, she was an angel! Gave my pathetic ass a meal for once instead of spending it on a pack of smokes.” The man told Jake as a smile formed on his face.
“Yeah, I was wondering if you knew who she was at all?” He asked as the man shook his head, hitting his knee.
“No idea son, but she’s one in a million. If you think she’s a keeper, better catch her fast because she’s going to be scooped up soon, junior!” He told Jake who pursed his lips and nodded.
“Alright, thank you. Oh, here.” Jake said as he handed the man a five dollar bill and made his way off back to his car. Getting into the drivers side, he started the car and made his way back home.

Eating the burrito and having a nap, Jake woke up at 3:30PM and made his way back to the arena. Doing the same as his earlier routine, he made his way into the dressing room where Morgan sat on his phone. Morgan looked up and held up his phone.

“The girls are having a bite to eat right now.” Morgan told him as he nodded, sitting beside him.
“Do you think I’ll find love?” Jake whispered to Morgan, so none of the guys would hear him.
Morgan gave him a confused look and began to speak. “Yeah, I do. Sure you hit a bump in the road on the way to finding love, hell a pot hole. But you’re a good guy, you’ll find love.” Morgan patted Jake’s back, to which Jake nodded.
“Thanks bud.”

That night, the boys made their way on the ice and played their game against the Sens. The game was a long one, but the boys were able to win 3-2 in overtime. This improving their mark in the standings, they walked into the dressing room after the game to celebrate by dancing to the radio. Random and hilarious songs came on as the boys all joked around together. After showing a few of his own moves, Jake sat down next to Morgan who was laughing his head off.

“The girls are making their way to the hall right now.” Morgan told Jake as he held up his phone to gesture he received a text from Ashley.
Finally, Jake thought. He was going to finally be able to meet the girl he had been thinking about nonstop. Jake finished getting dressed quickly, spraying himself with cologne after wiping himself down. He put a stick of gum in his mouth as he looked to see Morgan all bundled up in his winter coat. “Ready?”

Nodding, Jake swallowed hard and made his way out of Morgan. He would be lying if he said he didn’t have butterflies in his stomach. They turned down the hall to see Ashley and a brunette. They came closer as Jake’s hopes were crushed. It wasn’t her. Jake came face to face with a tall brunette who was, not going to lie, very beautiful. She was wearing a leafs t-shirt and had a leafs hat on as well. She smiled at Jake and he did the same to her. He would of went for her if he was still in his player-like nature. He had his mind set on one thing, and that was the girl he fell for at Chipotle’s.

“Jake, this is Monica. Monica, Jake.” She began as the two shook hands. Morgan looked at Jake who just looked back at him before at Ashley.
“So, I guess we’ll get going?” Jake asked as Monica nodded. “I’ll pick you up from Jake’s at one. Is that okay?” She asked as they both nodded. “See you soon.” Monica announced as Jake and her made their ways out.

The two arrived a while later at a small sports bar down the street from the ACC. They swung inside and sat at the bar that was hardly crowded. Jake ordered two beers as they began to talk. The whole night, Jake and Monica talked and were very friendly, but she wasn’t what he was looking for. She wasn’t who he was looking for. He had learnt Monica grew up in Calgary but came out to Toronto for school when she finished high school, three years ago. He also learnt that she was in school to become a teacher. The two had a lot in common but there was still that fantasy of his mystery in the back of his head. Finishing up their drinks, Jake having one and a few glasses of water, Monica having two bears and some water as well, they made their way back to Jake’s. Standing outside of his doorway, where Ashley and Morgan were inside, Jake scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

“Look, Moni-” Jake began as he was about to tell her he had fun but wasn’t interested in anything, she pulled his collar and began kissing him eagerly. His eyes grew wide as he kissed her back, feeling bad. He didn’t feel anything from the kiss, but it seemed he was the only one.

“Call me.” She whispered to him as she slid her phone number in his pocket, that she must of written down at the bar when he didn’t notice, because it was on a napkin. He stood there shocked before trying to gather himself.
“Uh, yeah sure.” He told her as he quickly unlocked the door, seeing Ashley and Morgan cuddled on the couch watching Batman; The Dark Knight.

They turned to see the two, as Ashley stood up slowly. Morgan paused the movie as Ashley walked over to Jake and Monica.

“So, did you guys have fun?” She asked as Monica quickly replied a sly yes, Jake nodded, replying with a quiet yes.

Ashley laughed softly and nodded, putting on her shoes. “Awesome! Well it’s getting late, so I’ll see you two soon, bye Morgan.” She announced as Morgan walked over, planting a kiss on her lips quickly to which she returned and walked out the door with Monica. As the door closed, Morgan locked it and turned to Jake.

“So it was shit, eh?” He asked as Jake sighed, pulling her phone number from his pocket and throwing it into the trash. “She was pretty cool until she randomly kissed me.” Jake announced as Morgan laughed, patting Jake on the back.

“Well get ready because another one of your one on one dates is tomorrow at Franny’s party.
