Second Chance

Chapter Two

*present day*

I was recently transferred to Sunrise, Florida to head a new team of analysts in the FBI offices here. I was nervous about the move but after a week or two. Everything was fine. I was able to buy a big house with a huge backyard including a pool with the promotion bonus. The school my son Danny would be attending was highly recommended. I was making friends and made a new best friend with a coworker, Michelle, who just happened to have a five year old named Noah.

"Hey Bridge, I got glass seats for the Florida Panthers game tonight. You and Danny in?" Michelle asked after work one day.

"Hell yes. Haven't been to a game in years."

I was raised to be a Flyers fan since my father was from Philadelphia. Never paid much attention to the Panthers though. I missed hockey and taking Danny to a game would be interesting.

Danny and I met Michelle and Noah by the gate. Michelle handed me our tickets and we went down to our seats. Right behind goal, sweet.

"How did you get these seats. They're amazing 'Chelle."

"Brother works is the equipment manager."

We sat in our seats as the team trickled out of the tunnel and started skating circles and shooting pucks. The boys pounded on the glass trying to get a reaction from the players.
It was cold, instantly making me thankful for making Danny put on his Batman hoodie. I clutched my leather jacket closer to my body, cursing myself for wearing flats. The players left the ice and the boys sat back down.

"Mama can we come to every game."

"I'll have to think about it darlin'"

Forty-five minutes later the Montreal Canadiens were scrambling to bury the puck in the net but the goalie 'Markstrom' weren't having it. The ref called for play to stop and the ice girls came out to clear the ice. The goalie turned around to get a drink of his Gatorade, I looked up from Danny playing Fruit Ninja and saw the goalie looking directly at me. As I made eye contact with the tall goaltender all the air in my lungs rushed out. Those blue eyes I would recognize anywhere, they were the same blue eyes that were currently staring at fruit ninja. The goaltender was the man I spent five years trying to get out of my head. Jacob.

"Thanks for the tickets Michelle but Danny needs to get to bed. I'll see you at work tomorrow."

I walked out into the cool Florida night and towards my 2014 Dodge Charger. As I was buckling in Danny who was fast asleep I heard my name being called. I closed the door and turned around to see a very tall, very sweaty, brown haired man running towards me.

"Bridget?" Jacob stood in front of me in a sweat soaked Florida Panthers shirt and basketball shorts with worn tennis shoes.

"So you play hockey Jacob?" pronouncing it the Swedish way.

"I would hug you but I'm a little wet. Also, just say it like the American way, it's what I'm use too." He laughed.

"That's okay." I smiled at him. His laugh was just as heart melting as I could remember.

"This is going to sound crazy but I saw you and I think that this is my second chance with you. Can I get your number?" His barely noticeable accent made my knees weak.

"I... I can't. I'm sorry." I held back tears and got in my car and quickly drove off. Leaving a confused Swedish goaltender in the parking lot.
