Training Miller

Chapter Ten

Beau had planned to grab something to eat with the guys after practice so I decided to finish all the reports I had to do. This team has a ridiculous amount of injuries already this season. Can we just bubble wrap the players? I think that would make my job a lot easier.
"Hi Patrick," I didn't have to look at my phone, the ringtone said it all.
"I'm sorry I didn't call yesterday.. Or after your birthday.. Or at all last week."
"You're a dick when you drink, you know that right?" I wasn't mad at Pat, but I wasn't exactly happy with what he did.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. I need to work on that." I walked over to the supply closet, taking down how much of everything we have left.
"Yeah you do.. Thanks for the tickets though. I'm guessing you can't go with me." It was a long shot, but I figured I would try.
"No, sorry."
"Its fine. I won't make you listen to Bruno Mars anymore than you already do." I reached up to get another tray of tape, but couldn't quite grab it. Someone easily took it off the shelf and handed it to me before nuzzling my neck, placing kisses in different places. "Quit tickling me."
"I'll let you get back to whatever you're doing. Talk to you later."
"No! No. I want to talk to you for a while," I pushed Beau away from me for a minute while I talked to Kaner about my birthday and the past week.
"Good luck tonight," I told my best friend, "I'm sure it'll go better than the last game I watched."
"I hope so. Bye Drew." I put the phone in my pocket, trying to get out of Beau's hold for the second time. I wasn't expecting him to be in here, I thought everyone had already left.
"What are you doing here? I thought you were going to dinner." I set out everything I would need for the following game day, trying to make tomorrow as easy on myself as I could.
"I am. I wanted to see you first." Beau wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him, pressing his forehead to mine. "What time do you think you'll be done?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe an hour. Depends on how fast I want to get home."
"Well," he kissed me, "how about I bring you dinner and we can watch movies," he kept kissing me between every few words, "maybe some other stuff."
I started giggling, knowing we would probably just fall asleep on the couch like we always did. Neither of us wanted to rush anything, especially since our relationship didn't start on the best terms.
We were just standing there, laughing at nothing when Dan walked in. Beau immediately separated himself from me as my uncle made his way towards us. Some girl walked in behind Dan.
"Drew, this is the new trainer, Karlee. She'll be working with you and traveling with the team starting next week." I politely shook her hand and introduced myself. There was something about this girl that looked oddly familiar and I wasn't exactly excited about the way she looked at my boyfriend.
"Well, I'll let you two talk. You still coming to lunch for Brandon's birthday tomorrow?" Dan asked before leaving the room.
"Yeah, of course. I'll be there." I told him, reminding myself to grab Brandon a present on the way home. Well, one that he could open in front of his parents. But once Dan left, things got awkward.
"I um- I should get going." Beau walked out of the office without saying goodbye.
"Well are you still bringing me dinner or do I need to get groceries tonight?" I yelled after my boyfriend but was met with silence, "Or not."
"He is so hot," she said to me, "Such a good kisser to."
I gave her a funny look before saying, "Yeah. He's a good kid. Uh, you can put your stuff in there. I pointed to the empty office space at the other end of the room. I'm guessing Danny or someone gave you the whole speech about everything."
"Danny? You mean Coach Bylsma?" She sounded really snotty.
"I'm sorry. I knew him before he had the coach part in front of his name. He's my uncle."
"I don't mean to sound rude or anything," too late,"but did you get this job because of him?"
I laughed, not really knowing how to reply, "No. The only reason I'm working here is because I lost my job at the Hawks for some reason. The coaching staff tried to keep me but here I am."
"Wait. You're the girl from the bar that one night!" I gave her another funny look and waited for her to elaborate on what she just said. "I thought you looked familiar. You're the girl who caused Beau and that one guy to fight! what's his name? Uh.."
"Patrick Kane," I whispered, remembering what happened that night. Figuring out exactly who this girl was. How she didn't know who Patrick Kane was, was beyond me. I thought anyone who followed hockey knew who he was.
"Yeah! They seemed pissed."
"They were."
I didn't mind this girl before we started talking about that night, now I don't think we would be getting along that well in the future. She just seemed like a dumb girl using her job to get with the players.
Okay, I understand I'm not exactly one to talk but I enjoyed hockey and I didn't come to Pittsburgh or go to Chicago to get a boyfriend. I went for a job and the rest just fell into place. With the help of a little - or a lot - of tequila.
"What exactly happened that night?" Karlee was not going to let this go until I told her the story.
"Long story short, Patrick was being a dick to Beau during the game, showed up drunk, said a few things to Bennett and they threw a few punches. That's pretty much it." I started gathering the papers I would need to take home with me.
"There has to be more to the story."
"There is but I need to get home. I'll see you tomorrow." I locked up my individual office and left her alone. I didn't really care what she was going to do when I left, I just needed to get away from her.
I set off to get Brandon's present and settled for Panda Express for dinner. I didn't care if Beau brought me something to eat. I didn't want to talk to him anyway. When I got home, I told
"What's up?"
"The girl Beau was making out with that one night? Yeah. She's now the trainer that will be traveling with the team."
"Drew, calm down. It'll be okay."
"No. It won't be okay. You should've seen the way she looked at him," the tears started spilling down my cheeks, "I was worried enough about him cheating already, I didn't need her to be back."
"I'm sure that Jayson kid would make sure he's staying faithful."
"Yeah too bad he got recalled.. I don't know. I'll talk to Sid or someone. I don't know. I'll figure something out." I turned towards the doorway to see Beau standing there with a few to-go boxes, "I gotta go. Call me tomorrow or text me or whatever."
"That kid would be insane to leave you for her, just remember that."
He hurried over to set the food down and was next to me before I could wipe my eyes, "Why are you crying?" He cupped my face and wiped the tears from my cheeks.
I stepped away from him for a minute. I didn't exactly know what I was going to say, "Do you have something to tell me?"
"Yeah. I guess I do. That girl means nothing to me. I want you and only you. I've heard stories about her, she'll probably just sleep with Neal."
"That doesn't mean you won't cheat when you're on the road.. I've been around the players. I've gone out with them and I've actually seen them wheel in some random girl when they have a girlfriend waiting for them back home."
"I'm not going to do that, I promise. I won't even go out if you don't want me to. I want this to work out," Beau pulled me close and kissed the top of my head, "I mean it. I only want you."
I didn't say anything, just stood there in his arms. I wasn't sure what to do, or say really. I just know I didn't want something to happen to our relationship because of that girl.
Even though Beau made everything right, that whole situation kind of ruined my night. I didn't really want to do much of anything besides go to bed. Beau put in a movie and I ended up falling asleep on him.
"Babe, I should go. We both have to be at the arena early."
"No. I want you to stay," I lazily mumbled into his chest. He just laughed, picking me up and bringing me to my bed.
"I'll see you in the morning babe," He pulled the blanket up over my shoulders and kissed my forehead. I groaned, rolling over and taking up my entire bed.
I slept hard and my alarm went off way too early. Getting up at five in the morning was never something I enjoyed. I remember being in a gymnasium at horrid hours to watch my brother wrestle. It was somewhat fun until my sister turned 13. Then she would get moody and it only got worse as she got older. I was glad that I didn't go as often my first few years of college. According to my brother's girlfriend, she only got worse.
I walked to the bathroom to sort out my hair and brush my teeth before putting on my clothes. I grabbed a bagel and cream cheese before heading out the door. I was hoping that I would be able to go out to lunch and grab something that would actually be able hold me through the day. Then I remembered Brandon's wrapped present sitting on my counter, there should be time for me to grab it before lunch today.
"You're late," Sutter said as soon as I walked in. I looked at the clock on the wall and laughed.
"Hardly. I'm five minutes early, thank you."
"You're usually 15 minutes early. Did you have a long night or something?"
"It wasn't long, just rough. I'll tell you about it later."
"We leave pretty much right after the game.."
"Right. I'll tell you during lunch. Go bother someone else while I eat." I guided him out the door so I could enjoy some peace and quiet before everyone was in here at once. I had a missed call from my brother. I made a note to call him back while I read the text from Pat I got late last night.

If that girl wasn't drop dead gorgeous when I was smashed, there is no way she compares to you. He'd be insane to leave you. I will always be here for you when you want to talk.

@heysunshine
I understand that. I would love it if it just followed them through their everyday life. I think that would be awesome.

@Eat_sleep_hockey15
Thank you! It's on hold because I really don't know where I want it to go and I was relating a little too much to Bentley so I thought it would be best to stop for a while.

Okay so Drew and Beau's story does continue. They're a part of my Robert Bortuzzo fanfic, Sure Feels Right and there will be a sequel that's for both of the stories once I'm finished with that fic. The story is on Wattpad or I'll be posting it on here sometime soon! Along with the sequel once I finish :)
