Training Miller
Chapter Eleven
It was only Beau, the team doctor, and me in the trainer's room. Something had happened in the middle of the game to Beau's wrist and it looked like it was painful.
"Well it's hard to say, but you'll be out anywhere from 8-10 weeks. We'll schedule surgery at a later date." He waited until the doctor was out of the room before throwing a fit.
"Fuck. That puts me out until the Olympics. Guess I won't be going this year." Beau got up from the table and paced around the room. I just let him blow off some steam before trying to calm him down. "Fuck."
He turned to the wall and punched it with his good hand, holding the other to his stomach.
"Oh my God. Beau!" I rushed to his side. "You can't do that! You're going to have two broken hands."
I filled a bag of ice for his self - injured hand and got out the stuff to splint up his broken one. I could feel him stare at me while I concentrated on my job.
"Come on. Let's go get your stuff." I grabbed my computer and put it in my bag before locking up for the night. He grabbed my hand even though it probably hurt.
"Is anyone driving you home?" I asked as I put everything in his bag.
"I was hoping you would." I looked up at him, he sounded like he was worried that I wouldn't want to be with him.
"That's why I asked." I gave him a smile before heading out to my car.
He stayed quiet the whole way home, didn't even think to turn off the country that was playing on the radio. I grabbed his bag from the back of my car and followed him inside. The house was empty. I wonder if Rob and Jay went out.
"I'm hungry," Beau complained. He looked like a lost puppy and I couldn't take it. I went over and wrapped my arms around his waist.
"Okay. I'll make you something," He led me to the kitchen and I searched for something that we could both eat. Not too much later, the rest of the guys arrived. I thought that they would be drunk but they ended up just going to someone's house for a while.
"What are you making?" Jay came to my side, trying to see what was on the stove.
"Fettucine alfredo."
"I want some."
"Yeah me too." Robert agreed. Of course they do.
I added a whole box of noodles, thinking about everything. Beau sat there in silence while his friends talked about whatever they felt like.
"Apparently we're getting another trainer," Jay mentioned, "Did you know that?"
I started mumbling about having another trainer there. It would be nice having the smaller workload but I've met the girl they're hiring and I didn't like her.
"She's already slept with quite a few guys on the team. Sounds like someone we know." Rob joked. I knew he wasn't being serious, but I didn't have the patience to deal with him tonight. Beau and I both glared at his roommate.
"When is the food going to be done?"
"Stop whining." I shot Rob another dirty look and went back to looking at my phone.
"You're not being a very good trainer."
"I'm actually being a girlfriend and not a trainer right now. I'm sorry if that inconveniences you two." I grabbed three plates from the cupboard and set them in front of the three hockey players. "You should be able to feed yourself. That's not my job."
"Aren't you going to eat?" Beau wondered. I shook my head no and set the noodles and sauce in front of them.
"I'm not hungry."
"I don't want any if you aren't eating." He needed to eat so I took the fork from Jayson's hand and shoved a ton of noodles into my mouth.
"Hey!"
"Happy?" I asked Beau with a mouthful of pasta. I had hoped that it would make him smile but I guess not.
"No." Jayson grabbed his food from me so he could keep eating.
"That was cute though." Beau shot his roommate a look and it wasn't very nice. Boys will be boys I guess.
I ate the very little pasta that was leftover, just so Beau would be a little happier. After putting the dishes in the dishwasher, I cleaned up the kitchen a little. Rob and Beau needed a little help keeping up the housework and kitchens need to be clean. Or at least I think they need to be.
Beau made his way over to me while I was wiping off the counter and he came over to wrap his arms around me. "Please stay."
I threw the rag in the sink and grabbed his hand. "Of course." I pushed myself to the tips of my toes and kissed his cheek. I could hear someone behind me groan, but I ignored them.
I lead him to his own bedroom, helping him take his sweatshirt off over the makeshift cast I made him. Beau stood there with his head resting on my shoulder, not saying anything.
I climbed up into his comfortable bed and he followed. As soon as he got settled, I scooted closer to him.
This was the first time we had spent the night together. We had been together for a couple months, but it didn't feel that long. Time kinda flew by when we're both busy with working.
"I love you," he mumbled into the top of my head, "thank you for taking care of me."
"I love you too, Beau. I don't mind taking care of you, but I'd appreciate if you didn't punch things when you get mad. That makes my job a little more difficult."
He didn't say anything else, closed his eyes and drifted off. I wasn't sure what time I actually went to bed myself, it couldn't have been early though. For some reason I couldn't fall asleep. It wasn't like I was thinking about anything. I was pretty much just watching Beau's chest rise and fall as he was sleeping.
I woke up in a really good mood. I think I decided to actually get out of bed at around 9. The boys were still sleeping, but I decided to make breakfast anyway.
"What would you do if I told you that I la la la la loved you," I danced around the kitchen in Beau's sweater, singing horribly off key.
"Oh. It's only you. I thought someone was killing some cats in my kitchen," I made a face at Robert as he poured some coffee, "Clothes in the kitchen are nice too."
"This sweater covers my ass and you aren't even wearing a shirt. Double standards much?"
"You won't be looking at me without a shirt, but I think Beau will have a problem if I start staring at your ass."
"Pig."
"I'm a guy," he tried defending himself, but I just laughed as he finished his cup of coffee and went to take a shower.
I went back to singing off key. This time it was Spice Girls. Just as the sausage was finishing and I was almost done with the pancakes, Beau walked in. He didn't say a word as I put everything on the table. I couldn't stand seeing him like this. He made his way to my side and I wrapped my arms around his midsection.
"Please don't leave me if I can't play," I pulled back and gave him a look of disbelief.
"I meant what I said last night. You're going through a rough time. I would hope you'd stay by my side if I was having problems. Sit down and I'll get you some pain killers. I'm sure you're in some pain right now.." I went on as I walked to the medicine cabinet, hoping Robert was in the shower already.
I got back and Beau had already started eating. I guess he couldn't wait for me, which was a good thing. I set the pills down next to his water before pouring myself something to drink. My phone started ringing and I danced to the tone. I could tell my boyfriend was fighting back a smile.
"Hi mom!"
"Wow, someone's in a good mood for it being morning. I just wanted to remind you that we'll be at Penn State in a few weeks. We'd love it if you came to the dual, if not we'll see you the day after. Danny got us a suite for the game."
"Oh yeah. Of course I'll be there. I'm actually just eating breakfast so I'll call you back later to figure everything out."
"Sounds great sweetie. Love you."
"Love you!" I ended the call and put my phone back on the counter by the stove, "To the sky, flyin' high. Take me to the moon."
Beau finally cracked a smile and laughed at my singing.
"I missed that smile," I told him as I kissed his nose.
We didn't do much that day, just sat in bed and watched movies. Robert left for the road trip. I didn't mind that on my day off. Working most of the time wasn't the most fun aspect of my job, but I did like the amount of time I got to spend with the guys. It was fun to be a part of this team. Even if it meant my stapler would get stolen and show back up submerged in jello.
"I heard you like jello," James stifled a laugh, trying to keep a straight face, "It's orange. Your favorite."
I rolled my eyes, remembering how everyone laughed. I was having a bad day and I was so tired, I was delusional. I laughed for a solid ten minutes at the plate Neal had set in front of me. I remember the looks I got from some of the guys, but I didnt care. I kept laughing until I couldn't breathe.
"Are you going to make dinner? Or should we order something?" Beau's voice brought me back to reality.
"I will gladly make something. What do you want?"
"Some sort of chicken."
"Well then we need to go shopping," I climbed out of bed and put on my jeans. While pulling my hair up into a pony tail, I searched his room for a hat.
I drove to the nearest grocery store and parked away from the crowd. Beau complained that he had to walk but I told him to suck it up a little. His arm was hurt, not his legs. We bought more than we needed, but his fridge was in some serious need of restocking. Especially since he'll be around more often now.
"Who do you like more, the Maine or the Cab?" Beau asked out of no where.
"Which one of your brothers do you like more?" I smiled, pretty satisfied with my response.
"That's not fair," he huffed. All he wanted was an answer from me.
"Neither was your question.. Speaking of brothers, mine will be at Penn State for a wrestling tournament in a while and my whole family is going. Want to join?" Beau thought about my offer for a minute and I added, "They're coming to a game too, my brother just won't be there and I'd kinda like you to meet my family.."
"I'd love to," Beau smiled and kissed me. I really liked where things were going.
@heysunshine
I understand that. I would love it if it just followed them through their everyday life. I think that would be awesome.
