Chapter Fifteen
I was sitting out in my kitchen eating my breakfast when Beau lazily padded to the refrigerator to grab the milk and juice.
"You a little thirsty?"
"Shut up. The milk is for cereal."
I smiled at my half asleep boyfriend and finished my own breakfast before hopping in the shower. I had just shut off the water when I heard the door open.
"Damnit."
"What were you going to do, join me in the shower?" I heard him mumble a yes and I shook my head, "You know you can getthis cast wet, right? I don't have to keep washing your hair."
I grabbed my towel from the counter and wrapped it around me before stepping out into the cold bathroom air. Beau was leaning against the closed door, smiling. I tried getting past him, but he wouldn't let me.
"I'm going to get you all wet if you don't move," I tried bumping hips in attempt to knock him off balance.
"What if I want to make you wet," He leaned down to whisper in my ear, sending chills up my spine.
"Beau Daniel! We have plans.. Maybe later," I finally slipped past him and was in the hall, "If you want to shower, do it now."
He stood there for a minute contemplating what to do and followed me into my room. I walked to my closet to grab one of my sweaters and a pair of leggings, hoping it wasn't freezing outside. Then again, not much compares to the twenty-two Iowa winters I lived through.
"Decided against the shower, huh?"
"Yeah. No use in showering now when I'll probably just get sweaty later."
"It's cute how you think we're going to have sex instead of what we had planned today," I grabbed his chin and smiled, "Nice try though."
"I don't think, I know."
"Nope. You said we could have a day out and I plan on getting it."
"Can we stop by my place before we go anywhere? I think I need a heavier jacket. I didn't expect to actually have to leave your place."
I rolled my eyes and put on one of the ski hats my parents got me from Colorado. Apparently once two of your children are living on their own, the youngest one gets the house to herself while they go on ski vacations.
"You're an idiot."
"But you love me."
"Yeah, yeah. Let's go."
Beau drove to his house and parked in the driveway. He left the car running while we walked inside together. We split ways as soon as we got in the door. I went to the kitchen and he went to his room. I grabbed a gatorade from the fridge and was met by Robert's voice.
"Stop stealing our drinks."
"Everyone steals my food all the time. It's one drink, calm down man."
"Why are you here anyway?" He asked as he grabbed something from the cupboard next to him. If I wanted something from there, I would have to climb on the counter.
"Loser didn't realize we were actually going to leave my apartment and go shopping today so he needed to change. We'll be out of your hair in a minute, don't worry."
"Please tell me you're going to help him pick out something other than hoodies and flannel," I laughed at Rob's plea. My boyfriend's wardrobe was atrocious and I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought so.
"What's wrong with hoodies and flannels?" Beau asked as he wrapped his arms around my waist and placed his chin on my shoulder.
"Nothing. You just need a larger variety of clothes."
"And you need your girlfriend's help with that. She'll know what girls like," I cocked an eyebrow, hoping Rob would change his mind about what he said, "Or what she likes, I guess."
"That's right. Well, we should get going. See you tomorrow, Borts."
Beau followed me to the car and we were on our way downtown. The traffic wasn't bad for a Saturday afternoon.
"Is it weird," I asked him as I checked my face in the visor mirror.
"Is what weird?" He knitted his eyebrows together without taking his eyes off the road.
"Knowing that your girlfriend has kissed your roommate."
"She's also kissed another teammate, but I'm still the only one that has seen her naked," Beau smiled, pretty pleased with his response. I rolled my eyes and slapped his stomach.
"Pig."
"I guess it is weird once I put some thought into it, but in the end you picked me over him so I don't see why it matters," I nodded my head and motioned where to park, "Where did that come from?"
"I don't really know. I guess I've always kind of wondered that."
We got out of the car, trying to hurry to the first store we were going to. I didn't think it was that cold out but Beau was being a baby. We spent a few hours going from shop to shop, trying things on. I made him get a new suit and decent looking t-shirts. We were sitting at a small cafe when he brought up plans for later this month.
"Do you know what you're doing for Christmas yet?" I never really gave to much thought about what I would be doing. I figured I would either stay here and celebrate with Dan or go home with my family.
"I think I'm going to Iowa. What are you doing?"
"Visiting family back on the west coast. Do you want to come with me?" I thought about his offer for a minute. This would be the first Christmas I had spent away from my family if I decided to go with him, "You don't have to, I just wanted you to meet my family."
I paused for another moment, still trying to figure out what my decision would be, "Yeah. Of course I'll go. I'd love to meet your family.
He smiled and grabbed my hand, "We'll look at plane tickets when we get back to your place. I'm just warning you, my sister can be a bitch sometimes and my brothers are weird."
"Weirder than you?"
"Shut up," He stood to throw away our coffee cups and came back to help with the many bags we had aquired.
"Can we go to a bookstore?" He sighed, I felt bad for asking because I drug him out today, "I promise I won't be in there for hours, there's just a few books I want and..."
"Yeah, we can."
As we were boarding the plane to California, I realized this wouldn't be a white Christmas. That wasn't something I was used to. This was definitely a new experience. Once we got there, I wasn't sure what to think. I was nervous about meeting Beau's family and I think he caught on when we were waiting for his parents to pick us up.
"They're going to love you," he told me before pressing his lips to my temple, "Stop worrying."
"How can you tell I'm worried?"
"You've put on chapstick like five times in the past two minutes. Just calm down, Drew. You'll do fine."
I let out the breath I was holding, hoping he was right.
"Beau! I'm so happy to see you," his mother greeted him with a hug, "And you must be Drew. You never told me how pretty she is, Beau."
I blushed as she pulled me in for a hug. I couldn't tell if it was the nerves or the weather here in California, but I was starting to get hot. I pulled my hair up into a messy bun to get it off my neck.
"I left Bailey with our lunch so we might want to hurry in case she forgets about it," Beau's father put our luggage in the trunk and we were soon leaving LAX.
During the ride there, we were told about our plans up until we got on the plane two days from now. We would eat lunch with his parents and siblings then tonight we would go to to his aunt's house for a small get together. After that, me and Beau decided we would exchange gifts before bed. The next morning everyone would open gifts and have breakfast and dinner was here at Beau's house.
We were sitting at the table with his family. Bailey was going off about how annoying it was to hear about how hot Beau was from all of her friends and girls on twitter. I started laughing cause I knew the feeling.
"Preach, girl," She just looked at me like I was crazy and I took another bite of my food, "I got that all throughout high school and college with my brother. I understand that he's an amazing wrestler but he's always going to be my little brother. You just have to accept it. Next time someone says anything, you just have to be like, 'yeah I know he's a stud. He's related to me,' or that's what I usually do."
She turned to Beau and told him, "You're insane if you ever decide to let her go. She's funny. I like her."
"She's not always funny," he teased.
"Hey, I'm hilarious thank you."
Meeting his family wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. They're all really nice and I think his sister likes me. Or at least she tolerates me. After we got back for the night, we went to grab our presents from his room and went to sit on the porch swing with a blanket.
"Okay, I had to leave part of your present in Pittsburgh, but I have this," I handed him the small box wrapped in shiny silver paper with a red bow. Just like a child would, he took off the ribbon and stuck it on my head.
I watched him carefully as he opened the box. His face lit up when he realized what I got him.
"VIP passes for Hoodie Allen? You're the best," he draped his arm around my shoulder, "Your turn."
He handed me a box, he looked pretty satisfied with his wrapping. I slowly peeled back the paper. Inside was another box, this one rectangular. I'm surprised he didn't wrap it too. I opened it up just to find a bracelet.
"I know you don't wear bracelets that often, but I wasn't sure what else to get," Beau admitted.
The silver bracelet was small and simple with four charms on it. A soccer ball, the number 10, hockey sticks and a puck, and the number 19.
"Babe, it's perfect. I love it," I held out my arm so that he could put it on. I cuddled up next to him and he pressed his lips to my temple.
"Merry Christmas baby. I love you."
"I love you too, Beau. Let's go to bed."
The next morning, one of Beau's brothers came to wake us up. Thankfully, he didn't land on me. We lazily made our way to the family room. Beau groaned once we got down there.
"Really, mom? Matching sweaters?"
"I got one for Drew, too!" The excitement on her face made me laugh. She handed me the sweater and I gladly put it on.
"You don't have to do that," Beau told me.
"No, I want to."
"We're matching!" Bailey yelled across the room. The three boys would have matching sweaters of their own once they put them on.
"How can you not love Christmas sweaters?" I nudged him with my shoulder.
"How can anyone not love you?" He kissed my forehead and intertwined his fingers with mine.
"You're so cheesy. I love it."
@heysunshine
I understand that. I would love it if it just followed them through their everyday life. I think that would be awesome.
