Training Miller

Chapter Twenty-Four

Beau's timing was perfect. It was right around the World Cup so we didn't have many games to work and when I did, my days were short. I did make him watch a majority of the games with me, though.
"Want to come to Disneyland with me and my family tomorrow?" He asked as I stared intently at my tv. The US game had just started and it was already looking pretty good.
"Did you hear me?" I shushed him and waved a hand, hoping he would understand to shut up during this game.
When Dempsey got the ball, I immediately removed my legs from Beau's lap and sat at the edge of my seat. Good things happen when he has a ball at his foot.
"Come on baby, you got this," I placed my elbows on my legs, fingertips on my lips, "Go go go go go!"
Our captain dribbled around the defender and took a left footed shot that barely missed the keeper, bounced off the far post and made it past the goal line.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!! That's my boy!" I jumped out of my seat and started clapping. Beau just laughed, "I'm sorry, what were you saying?"
"Disneyland. Do you want to go with my family tomorrow?" He looked up at me, I could tell he was silently mocking me.
"I actually would rather stab my eye with a fork, but thanks for the offer," I blatantly told him. It was quite true, hundreds of screaming children isn't something I want to experience on my day off.
"It's because you don't like my sister, isn't it?"
"It's actually because over 14 hours at Disneyland might kill me. Or send me to jail. Maybe some time when it's not so busy because I really do love the place, just not all the people," I told him as I sat down again, placing my legs back on his lap.
"I'm late but I figured I wouldn't miss anything super important in the first few minutes," Kendra walked in and set her purse down before hopping over the back of my couch.
"No you just missed Dempsey being amazing. Is that a Wambach jersey?"
"Damnit. That would happen to me.. You bet. Rapinoe?"
"Oh yeah."
Beau shook his head. I don't think he understood what was going on but not many people did. It's a soccer girl thing.
"I think those jerseys are prettier than my prom dress," Kendra admitted. I had to agree withe her on that one, "Whoa! What the hell was that?"
"Why the fuck is his leg up that high?" I jumped up from the couch. My boyfriend stared at me, not sure what to say, "I never swear until it comes to soccer."
"Apparently."
Turns out our captain's nose was broken, so while they were cleaning him up, I started making drinks.
"Is it bad that I think he's still super hot when his nose is broken?" I set the two drinks down on the table before getting mine.
"Yes." My boyfriend.
"Definitely not." My best friend.
"Damn. I should've moved to Seattle," I joked, "Too bad he's married."
After the game was over and the celebration was done, Beau and I headed over to his family's house for a barbecue. We were walking down the stairs with Kendra when I nudged Beau's side.
"You know whose jersey that is?" I asked with a big smile on my face.
"Abby Wambach," He mumbled and I started laughing uncontrollably. I knew Beau wasn't happy with me but I thought I was hilarious.
"Why is that so funny?" Kendra looked stopped in front of the two of us.
"Someone asked Beau if he was Abby Wombach. Now it's a huge joke on the team."
My coworker stared at him for a few seconds before saying anything, "Yep. I totally see that."
"I don't like you," Beau was pouting all the way to the car.
"You love me."
Driving to his childhood home was a little nerve wracking. This was the first time I had seen his family since Christmas. The first time I had seen them since I walked away from Beau.
"Why are you always so nervous around my family?"
"How do you always know I'm nervous?"
"The chapstick." We had been together for awhile and it still amazed me how well he knew my weird habits.
"They love you. But more importantly, I love you," he leaned over the console to kiss my forehead, "Let's go."
I got out of the car and took his hand. I know I didn't have anything to worry about but that gut feeling was still there and no matter what I did, it wouldn't leave. Beau squeezed my hand, signaling it would be perfectly fine.
Instead of going through the front door, he took me through a gate that led us to the back yard that was filled with his family members.
"Drew!" Beau's mother made her way over to me for a hug, "It's so nice to see you."
"You too," I smiled. It was nice that his family was happy to see me. That feeling in my stomach started to fade away. I sat at one of the tables next to Bailey and Shane"
"So are you coming to Disneyland with us tomorrow?" Bailey asked. I could tell she needed some female company on their day trip.
"I'm afraid not. I went a couple weeks ago for a friend's birthday. That before school was out and even then there were too many people."
"Here's your massive plate of fruit salad," Beau laughed as he set my food down in front of me. I immediately picked a piece of watermelon off the plate and popped it in my mouth.
"Is that all you're going to eat?" Shane looked at me like I was crazy, "When you were here for Christmas, you ate as much as Beau did."
"I actually was eating throughout the game and this will probably fill me up. I eat when I'm nervous."
"She gives good back massages too," Beau told his siblings as he bit into his burger.
"How do you like L.A. so far?"
"I love working with the Galaxy but sometimes the city makes me miss Dubuque. It is nice to be right next to the ocean though."
It was nice catching up to Beau's family and meeting some of the others that I hadn't before. Beau was taken from me, though. His little cousins were climbing on him just like the Kunitz children were the time you babysat them.
"Oh, please don't hang on the arm," I cringed, "I worked hard on that."'
Bailey and Shane started laughing as I almost started crying.
"If anything, Beau will hurt himself. Again."
"Hey, Bailey can you babysit Emma tonight?" Beau's cousin came over, bouncing her four month old baby on her hip.
"Sorry, I have plans."
"Shane?" She started to look worried.
"Yeah, I'm going out too. Sorry."
"Me and Beau aren't doing anything tonight, I'd definitely love to babysit this adorable child."
"Are you sure? My babysitter just called and said she can't make it so I really have no other option."
"Yeah, of course. If Beau doesn't want to, well that sucks."
She handed over Emma and set the diaper bag down next to my chair. I set her on my legs, facing me. She giggled whenever I bounced her or made a face. We were pretty entertained with each other.
Soon, most of the Bennett family had left. Soon the only people left were Beau, his siblings, and me.
"How do you always get sucked into babysitting?" He asked me as we moved into the living room. He connected the tv to netflix and we started rewatching Friday Night Lights.
"How can you say no to this face," I held Emma up and smiled at her, "She's so cute, you can't say she isn't."
"Well yeah I know she's cute, but I thought we could do something else tonight.."
"Can you not talk about making children while I'm still in the house?" Bailey asked as she walked out the door, "I seriously didn't need that mental image."
I laughed and laid down on the floor with my head on Beau's leg. Emma was about to fall asleep so I laid her on my chest. Beau started running his fingers through my hair.
"You know, we never had that conversation after Chris picked up his children."
"How do you remember that? That was months ago," He knitted his eyebrows together, confused.
"I don't know.. You brought it up. I thought it was something you wanted to talk about."
He took a deep breath, "I want to have children with you but that's sort of difficult when we live thousands of miles apart."
"What are we going to do when you go back?"
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there, Drew."
I got up to grab a blanket to lay Emma on and went back to using Beau's leg as a pillow. After a few episodes, I started falling asleep.
"Hey, scoot over a bit," Beau sprawled out next to me and I rolled over to face him. He laid an arm over my side and pulled me closer to him. I could tell Beau was awake, so I didn't worry about falling asleep with the baby laying next to us.
I knew he thought I was asleep, or damn close to being asleep because he started talking.
"You know I was miserable not talking to you," he said, "I can't live without you and I'll do everything in my power to keep you. I love you so much, Drew."

Notes

Last chapter, but Drew and Beau are in another one of my stories that I might be posting here soon :)

@heysunshine
I understand that. I would love it if it just followed them through their everyday life. I think that would be awesome.

@Eat_sleep_hockey15
Thank you! It's on hold because I really don't know where I want it to go and I was relating a little too much to Bentley so I thought it would be best to stop for a while.

@hawkshockeypens
Okay so Drew and Beau's story does continue. They're a part of my Robert Bortuzzo fanfic, Sure Feels Right and there will be a sequel that's for both of the stories once I'm finished with that fic. The story is on Wattpad or I'll be posting it on here sometime soon! Along with the sequel once I finish :)
