Training Miller
Chapter Six
"How does Bylsma feel that you recruited the team to help you move in?" Jayson asked before setting a box of kitchen ware on the counter. My new place was perfect for just me. It would be perfect if I had a fiancé too, but that was a few years away.
"I told her nothing too hard. Besides you need your workout." He joked. "I'm sure she's paying you anyway."
"In beer and pasta. I think that's all. Thanks Danny." I set down the last box of my stuff and hugged my uncle goodbye. It was weird knowing I wouldn't be living with him but I'd still see him every day at the rink. Hopefully now I wouldn't have to deal with him being as nosy as he was the past week. I was getting a little tired of all the questions about Beau. We weren't dating or fooling around. We were seeing each other, nothing serious.
"Dinner on Sundays?"
"Of course!" I couldn't turn down my aunt's food. It's not as good as my mom's or my grandma's but it was pretty close.
Now, I just had to start unpacking. My living room was the only room I had fully unpacked. Most of my kitchen ware was put away but I couldn't find the pot I needed.
"Alright. First person to find my big pot and the lid that goes with it gets something extra." The three guys in my apartment searched the five boxes until they could find it. What do they get? I don't know.
"So what do I get?" Beau brought it over to the sink to fill it up and set it on the stove for me. I smiled as I bit my lip. I thought I was pretty funny for coming up with this.
"Sexual favors." The look on everyone's face was priceless. I think they finally realized that I'm not as innocent as I look. "I'm kidding."
"No you weren't." Jayson saw right through my act. He seemed upset that he didn't win, as if I favored Beau somehow. “Are you two even dating yet?”
“No.” Beau snapped, he hated that question. So many people have been asking lately. He said he didn’t want to make it official just yet and wondered if it was alright with me. I told him it was if he didn’t care about my relationship with Brandon.. Or Pat for that matter.
"I hope you guys like random music cause I have 2000 songs on my ipod with pretty much every genre." I pressed play and hooked set it on the docking station I have.
"You have the Jonas Brothers album?"
"You don't?" I acted like I was shocked at what Bort had said. "But they are sooo good. How could you not like them?"
"Not a fan of boy bands."
"Fine. I'll change it." I switched it over to the playlist Jon had made, I figured they would like it. Most hockey players had the same taste in music.
After they had all eaten, I started cleaning up the kitchen. The boys offered to help but I told them to just stay where they were. I’m really uptight when it comes to kitchens. I make such a mess when I’m cooking, that I have to clean it up myself. It has to be spotless after I’m done. Someone started knocking at my door while I was doing the dishes.
“You expecting company?” Beau looked confused.
“No. Can someone get it for me?”
“Yeah,” Bort got up to open the door, “Drew, you might want to come get it yourself.”
I wiped my hands on my jeans and walked towards my door, “Kaner!” I threw my arms around his neck. He was good at surprises, but that didn’t mean that I wasn’t still made at him for ignoring me.
I motioned towards a chair and got him some water. “What brings you here?”
“I figured I’d help out my best friend and unpack everything I packed last month.” With the three Penguins sitting at my counter all being over six feet tall, Patrick looked really small.
“Hey I think we’re going to head back..” Jayson said. I could tell the three of them felt awkward being around Patrick, especially Beau. I kind of got the feeling that Beau was going to stay and help me unpack a few things about Rob and Jay left, but I guess that wasn’t happening now.
“Oh okay. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” I gave them each a hug and kissed Beau’s cheek.
“I still expect those favors for winning,” He smirked, knowing it was very possible for me to pay up. In fact, I probably would next time we were alone.
“Whatever.” I closed the door behind him, I’m sure he was upset that Patrick showed up and ruined his plans for the night. “Seriously, what made you want to spend your time up here? You only have a couple days off.”
“I wanted to see you.” He walked over to me, placed his hands on my hips and started to rub circles underneath my shirt. “You aren’t dating Beau, are you?”
“No, why?”
“So I can do this.” He pushed me against the door and kissed me. I turned my head to the side to deepen it a little. I pressed my hips into his causing him to moan.
“You regret ignoring me the other night for that girl, don’t you?” I smiled, knowing I was his weakness.
“I’m sorry for that. I really am. Can I make it up to you?”
“Oh really,” I bit my lip. Something felt wrong doing this, but I didn’t really care. “How do you think you’re going to do that?”
“Well, I could..” He started pulling at my shirt, trying to get it off.
“Actually, I was thinking you could help me unpack the rest of my bedroom.” I walked away, laughing at what I had just done. Poor Kaner..
“Damnit Miller. That’s not what I was thinking. But I like the sound of bedroom!”
Patrick was the opposite of help when it came to unpacking my bedroom. He was playing with my clothes and sitting on the bed when I was trying to make it, but he definitely made the time go by a lot quicker.
“How late do you stay up when you have work tomorrow?” He put his chin on my shoulder, talking softly into my ear. It never failed to give me chills.
“Oh I don’t work tomorrow morning. I just have to go pick up my check. But I’m usually in bed by now. Why? Do you want to get to sleep?”
“Or some other things..”
“Not tonight Pat.”
“Will you at least come to bed? It’s late.” I hung the last sweater up in my closet and closed the door.
“It’s not even two yet, but I guess I can.” I threw on some shorts and a big t-shirt before turning off the lights and getting in bed.
“Does your room always have to be freezing?”
“I can’t sleep when it’s hot in here,” I told him, playing with his hand, “Your hands are cold. If you’re that cold, you can shut the window.”
“I’m fine. I have you to keep me warm now.” He grabbed my waist to pull me closer.
“You know, we can’t always act like this.”
“I know,” he whispered. I could tell thinking about that hurt him a little. “But we can for now.”
I’d be lying if I said him showing up randomly, didn’t make me happy. That’s what best friends are supposed to do, right? Make each other happy? I started falling asleep when Pat was talking. I don’t know if he was talking to me, or to himself but I don’t think he knew I was listening.
“I love you, Drew. You’re my best friend and I’d give anything to be more than that.”
I half expected him to be gone the next morning, but he was still lying there next to me when I woke up. It was only ten when I looked at my phone.
“Pat.”
“What?” He turned to look at me, blonde curls everywhere. There was something so different about him when he woke up. He reminded me of a little boy, so sweet and innocent. Pat’s a great guy, don’t get me wrong. He just likes to drink.
“Do you want breakfast?”
“I would love some.”
I quickly showered and left out a towel for Patrick. I was still half asleep trying to put on clothes, I almost fell putting on leggings.
“How long have you had those damn converse?” He laughed at the beat up old shoes I was wearing.
“Since sophomore year in high school. Favorite shoes I’ve ever owned,” I smiled, thinking about all the games I wore these to. I was never getting rid of them.
“I can’t keep touchin’ you like this, if it’s just temporary bliss.” I could hear him sing to himself while reading one of my magazines.
“Since when do you listen to the Cab?”
“Since that’s all you ever listen to when I’m over.”
“That’s not completely true.. I listen to the Maine too.”
I got to the rink later that day and before finding everyone else, I stopped to talk to my uncle.
“How was the first night in the new place?”
“It was good. I still have a lot of unpacking to do, but it was nice.” I made myself comfortable in one of the chairs, I planned on staying in here for a while. Danny needed to be bothered and I knew exactly how to do it.
“You do know wearing that sweatshirt will get you pranked.”
“Right,” I was already bored and didn’t feel like sticking around any longer, “Well Danny, it’s been fun but I have a check to pick up and apparently I need a new pair of converse.”
I called Beau, but he didn’t pick up. I walked to my office, hoping no one would see me. I knew exactly what Pascal would do if he saw me. I was about ten feet away from the door when I felt something wet and cold on my head and soon, the rest of my body. I spun around to see Neal and Dupuis holding buckets, looking pretty pleased with themselves.
“You brats!” I chased after them, but they were too fast. I pounded on the door to the locker room, “Damnit you two! Open this door.” This was the last time I would wear Hawk’s stuff to work again.
“What happened to you?” Sid asked, trying to get into his own locker room. “Let me in!”
Of course he would be let into the room, but not me. At least he was nice enough to let me go ahead of him. Neal’s face dropped when he saw me running towards him. I jumped on his back, hoping to get him wet.
“That’s what you get, Lazy.” I let go and started walking to the door, wanting to get home and out of these wet clothes. That’s when I was hit in the face with a pair of shorts, only to see it was Beau smiling at me this time. “Want to give me a shirt while you’re at it?”
“Yeah, sure.” He grabbed a clean shirt and walked out in the hall, “So, what are you doing later?”
“I think I’ll be unpacking the rest of my apartment. Why? You have something in mind?” I raised an eyebrow, knowing exactly what he wanted.
“Yeah. I think I have an idea.” He leaned down to kiss me, but was pulled away before our lips actually touched.
“Not in the hallway, you two.” Sutter yelled.
“I’ll call you when I’m done.” Beau blew me a kiss before getting pulled into the locker room. This team was something else.
Notes
I don't even know what this is.
@heysunshine
I understand that. I would love it if it just followed them through their everyday life. I think that would be awesome.
