Training Miller

Chapter Seven

"Miller, will you bring me some food?" Pat whined into the phone. We played the Hawks tonight and I was definitely wearing socks with their logo on them.
"You're a big kid now. You can get your own food." I was filling out reports and didn't have time to go get myself some food before people started showing up to get taped, let alone go get food for Pat.
"But I want to see you." He's so needy it's almost like he's a girl.
"Yeah I'm sure you do. Fly up here when you have a break."
"I want to see you today."
"You saw me a week ago when you helped me unpack my apartment."
"Pleeeaaasse Miller. I need you." For sexual favors, I'm guessing.
"Mmmk. Well I have a ton of stuff to do before the game tonight. So I'll talk to you after the game. Bye Pat."
I wasn't really sure how to feel about this whole Patrick being in Pittsburgh today. Me and Beau weren't together quite yet, but we have feelings for each other but there's this whole thing about me getting around.. I knew there was a rumor about me dating Beau going through the team back in Chicago because Jonny asked me about it but I said it wasn't true. Hopefully Patrick didn't believe it.
"Got a lot on your mind?" Jay walked into my office.
"That's an understatement. Go do your exercises. I have to finish this real quick." I waved him off without looking away from the computer screen.
"Hey can you-"
"After I finish this." I didn't have much time for whatever Pauly had to say.
The beginning of the game was rough. I'd go back and forth, not sure whether or not I wanted to watch. Pat scored the first goal and did his stupid little heartbreaker celly. I rolled my eyes every time he did that, but it did make me smile.
Towards the end of the first period, I could tell Patrick was being a little rougher than usual. Okay, a lot more.
Especially towards Beau. I tried shaking it off but it got worse into the second and third. He was trying to hurt him on purpose.
I get that hockey is a rough sport but this is getting out of hand. I love Pat but there is no way in hell he's going to treat one of my players that just got back in the game like that. It didn't matter if it was Beau or Paulie or Jay. It wasn't happening.
"I need to talk to Kane." I told Sharp when he opened the door to the locker room.
"Shit." He said under his breath, before calling over his shoulder, "Kane, Miller wants to talk to you. She looks pissed too." The whole locker room went silent. Everyone knew it had to be serious if I was pissed.
"What's going on, babe?" He walked out all sweaty with only his pants on. Damn. I missed seeing his body.
"Patrick Timothy Kane you know exactly what the fuck is going on. I cannot believe you." I screamed, not caring that the entire locker room was watching. Pat just looked at me, not knowing what to say. "Why. Why would you do that? Why in the world would you target one player? It's because it's Beau, right? What would you have done if everyone thought I was dating Geno? What then? Cause I know damn well that if I was still in Boston and had a thing with Lucic, you wouldn't go there."
"Drew, I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking." His apology was sincere, but I wasn't going to take that.
"You wanted to impress me, Patrick. I don't know why you want to though. It just doesn't make sense that you would do something like that. Do you want me to realize that I'm with the wrong person and that you're so much better? I love you Pat, with all my heart. I truly do. But I won't be your friend if you won't let me be happy with someone that is not you." I turned around to walk back to my office but Jonny called my name.
"The only way I'm talking to you right now is if we are in my office so you can follow me or you can call me later tonight." I yelled as I walked away, hearing footsteps follow me.
"Sorry I kept you waiting and that I will keep you waiting for a few minutes, I just have to get some shit settled." Toews followed me into my office where we talked about Kane's behavior during the game.
"I tried to get him to stop, telling him it wasn't worth it. The whole team did." Even thought I was in my office watching the game for a lot of it, I could tell. Sometimes it seemed like Tazer hated his teammate.
"Imagine that, Captain Serious trying to get Kane to settle down a litte." The thought made me laugh.
"I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry. He was and probably will be an idiot tonight."
"Oh are you staying here for the night?" Toews just nodded. This night won't end well. "Okay well. Call me if you need something. It was good seeing you." I gave him a hug, sweaty gear and all. "Go change. I don't want to leave this building before you do."
"It's a captain's job."
"To win? You all played great. Flower just played better. Don't beat yourself up, kid." I walked him out of my office and started helping the many players that had gathered in there.
"So what are you doing tonight?" Beau and Jayson both lingered, waiting for me to be done with work.
"Going home and eating ice cream. Probably gonna watch some Desperate Housewives. I live that super exciting life everyone dreams about."
"You wanna go out?" Jayson asked.
Yes, I want to go out with my best friend and the guy that is causing me so much trouble. It'll be great. Especially if I'm drunk. "Sure. I just need to change first and do something with my hair."
"We can follow you to your apartment and you can leave your car."
"Sweet." I grabbed all the paperwork I would have to finish tomorrow morning before coming back to the rink and locked the door to my office.
"Can we come up to your place?" Jay asked as I walked past his car.
"Um sure. I won't be too long." Forty minutes isn't too long, right?
I didn't spend the whole time getting ready. I mainly cooked some food and danced around for a while. It was fun.
"Hurry up. That alcohol isn't going to drink itself."
"My hair isn't going to straighten itself either. I'm almost done." Not even five minutes later I walked out with jeans that I somehow squeezed into and a bright pink v-neck that made me look a lot tanner than I usually am. Not to mention the black 5 inch booties I had on. I'm sure they could tell this was the first time I had been out in a while.
I had forgotten what it's like to go out when a pro sports team had just won a big game. Everyone was going crazy and I can't imagine what is going to happen when girls see Beau out tonight..
Jayson was holding my hand, leading me to the bar. I guess that was an open invitation for girls to gather around Beau. He tried shaking them off but it didn't really work. He looked at me and mouthed an apology. I just shrugged. I guess I was just going to have to learn to deal with it.
"He really likes you, I hope you know that." Jayson told me as I stared at all the girls gathering around the guy I should be going home with tonight. He pulled one away to go dance with her.
"It sucks." I finished my beer and got another one. "I never had to deal with this back in Chicago."
"That's what happens when you get feelings for someone."
"Speaking of feelings. How's that girl you've been going for?"
"She doesn't want to deal with the distance and she's worried about out friendship if it doesn't work out."
"Classic girl line." I smiled. I've definitely used that before. "Shit."
"What's going on?" He followed my gaze to the door. Pat had already been drinking, I could tell. Jonny was right behind him. I'm hoping he doesn't see Beau out there dancing with someone other than me.
I kept looking between the two guys, Pat seemed to be content with getting more alcohol but Beau was getting a little too close to that girl.
"We can leave if you want."
"He's enjoying it. He's really enjoying it. That's the best part. I yelled at my best friend because of him. Oh great. Patrick found him." I downed the rest of my drink before getting up. The alcohol hit me at once and I stumbled when I stood up. Jonny would need some help in a few minutes. I couldn't hear what they were saying but I could tell it was getting heated.
"Why are you dancing with another girl if you like Drew so much?" Kane asked, getting in Beau's face. He didn't say anything, just looked at my best friend. "Especially if she's over there at the bar with your friend and teammate?"
"Alright Pat. Time to go." Jon grabbed his arm and tried dragging him away.
"No. He doesn't deserve Drew." Before I got to them, Beau threw a punch.
"You don't deserve her." Patrick was grabbing his jaw while Jonny and Sharp were trying to get him out of the club. "I'm sure you have a different girl in every city."
And now it's a fight. I tried to get the middle of them but Jayson pulled me aside.
"Patrick! Beau! Stop!" They finally quit after they heard my voice. "I honestly can't believe either of you two right now. Beau I know we aren't dating or anything official, but shit. Haven't you heard of dancing with the one you came with? It's a good idea. And you." I turned to Pat who was already forming a bruise. "Why can't you let it go? You know what? I don't care. I'm done. You need to go back to your hotel."
Out of no where, he grabbed my face and kissed me. He was tracing my lips, trying to get me to open my mouth. When I did, I could taste the whiskey on his tongue.
"Stop. You need to go." I said while he was still kissing me. I hope no one ever looks at me the way he just did. It just broke my heart right in half.
I went outside to get some air and calm down but I'm guessing Jayson and Beau thought I was leaving. When I got back in, Jay was paying the bill and Beau was making out with that girl. I
went up to the bar and got two shots of fireball before actually leaving the club for the night.
"Drew are you okay?" Jayson walked up behind me while I was finishing my order.
"Goddamn that burns." I grabbed my chest. "Yeah. Perfect. I actually tried to look good tonight and look what happened. I broke my best friend's heart and Beau is out there kissing some girl. I'm going home alone tonight."
"You shouldn't be alone tonight."
"I'll be fine, Jayson. I swear." He still wouldn't let me walk home alone, even if it was four blocks away. I could feel my phone ringing in my back pocket but ignored it as long as I could.
"Hi Tazer."
"Kane wants to see you."
"No."
"Sorry, let me rephrase that. He needs to see you. I wouldn't call you if I didn't think you should come over." He's right, I probably should go make things okay with Pat. I just wasn't sure how I would do that.
"Okay. I'll be there in a few."
"Were you going to drive home?" I asked Jay.
"Yeah. That's why I'm sober."
"Would you mind driving me to the hotel where the Hawks are staying?"
He nodded. I couldn't tell what he was thinking, but I didn't care at this point.
On the way over to Pat's hotel, I started crying. Jayson tried asking me if I was okay but I just told him I would be. Or at least I think I would be.
The elevator ride was horrible. I had time to think about all that had happened since I left my house. I've never missed Iowa so much in my life.
"I'll be next door if you need anything." Jon left the room as soon as I got there.
"I can't believe you." I shook my head and the tears started falling.
He didn't have an answer for me, just pushed me against the door and pressed his lips against mine. He deepened the kiss and then distanced himself while cupping my face. "I love you, and I'm going to show you." He started planting kisses down my jaw and then on my collar bone.
This isn't going to happen when I'm still pissed. I'm pissed at Beau for ditching me at the club. I'm pissed at Patrick for what happened during the game and looking at me like I broke his heart. I wasn't going to do anything that could possibly make me think that I should be with Kane.
No, we were going to have nasty, dirty, I really hate you right now, sex.
He lifted his arms and I pulled his shirt over his head. When we were finally close enough, I pushed him onto the bed.
Pat had a wicked grin on his face, "So that's how you want to play tonight." He rolled me over to get on top. He pulled off my jeans and I knew there was no going back.
So much for dancing with the one that you came with.

I understand that. I would love it if it just followed them through their everyday life. I think that would be awesome.

@Eat_sleep_hockey15
Thank you! It's on hold because I really don't know where I want it to go and I was relating a little too much to Bentley so I thought it would be best to stop for a while.

@hawkshockeypens
Okay so Drew and Beau's story does continue. They're a part of my Robert Bortuzzo fanfic, Sure Feels Right and there will be a sequel that's for both of the stories once I'm finished with that fic. The story is on Wattpad or I'll be posting it on here sometime soon! Along with the sequel once I finish :)
