Ten: Fallin' For You

Kaitlyn and Pat drove in silence. They pulled up to a red light. Patrick looked over at her. She was staring out the window. Her hands were in her lap as she played with her fingers. He pulled a hand off the steering wheel, reaching for hers. He laced his fingers with hers. She looked at him as their hands rested in between them. He had a grin on his face.
They drove for a bit longer. He pulled into the parking lot of a nice restaurant. He let go of her hand to put his car into park. Kaitlyn undid her seatbelt before she reached for the door handle. Pat opened his door but pushed the lock button. Her door clicked. She looked at him and he smirked as he closed his door. He walked over to hers, unlocking it with his key. He helped her down before taking her hand.
"What exactly are we doing tonight?" She asked, leaning her head against his shoulder.
"I was thinking dinner here, your treat." He grinned. She rolled her eyes. "And then we'd go to the carnival in town." "
A carnival?"
"Yeah." He heard the concern in her voice. He looked at her. She was looking up at him. "Are you okay with that?"
She nodded, lifting her head as he held the door open for her. She walked in and he followed behind. He placed a hand on her back.
"I jus,"
"Hi, do you have a reservation?" A curly haired red head interrupted.
Pat frowned at Kaitlyn as he looked to the girl. "Kane." He told the red head.
"Ah, right this way." She grinned, grabbing to menus.
Patrick grabbed Kaitlyn's hand as they followed the redhead. He pulled out Kaitlyn's chair. She thanked him and sat. Pat sat across from her. The waitress laid their menus in front of them.
"Shame you weren't a party of one." The waitress winked at him.
"Not a shame at all." He replied before the waitress shuffled off.
Kaitlyn shook her head, laughing. Patrick smiled at her as he lifted his menu. They sat and read them over. Pat looked over the top of his menu at her again.
"What were you saying when we came in?" He asked.
"Nothing important." She shrugged, lowering her menu.
He rolled his eyes. "Kaitlyn, c'mon."
"It's nothing! I swear!" She cried.
He reached across the table and grabbed her hand. "Tell me. If you don't like carnivals, it's fine."
She stared at him before she frowned and sighed. "I like them. I just don't like the spiny rides." She explained. Patrick laughed. "Pat." She whined.
"I'm sorry! We just won't go on the spiny rides." He chuckled.
"I hate you." She pouted, picking her menu back up.
"Oh, we're definitely going on a spiny ride now." He smirked, earning him a glare.
They finished dinner and set off for the carnival. Kaitlyn tapped her fingers on her thigh as they drove. She was worried that Pat might actually force her onto a spiny ride. He reached over and placed his hand over hers. She let out a sigh. He cocked a brow, stealing a glance at her.
"You okay?" He questioned.
"You suck." She frowned.
"What? I didn't do a,"
"I swear to god, Patrick, if you bring me anywhere near a spiny ride, I'll walk home." She warned.
He shook his head. "No spiny rides. I promise." He squeezed her hand.
They parked in the dirt parking lot assigned to the carnival. Patrick went on a rant about how bad for his car it was. Kaitlyn put a hand over his mouth as she guided him towards the commotion.
They laced their fingers, walking through the carnival. Patrick begged Kaitlyn to share cotton candy with him. She agreed, and ended up eating most of it. They went on a few rides and through the fun house. It was nearing eleven when they decided to call it a night.
Patrick drove Kaitlyn home. Their hands stayed laced during the ride to her house. They both had smiles on their faces. Kaitlyn had heard all about Pat and his womanizing ways. She didn't believe he was really into her. Sure, he probably thought she was cool and wanted to get with her, but no further intentions. She wished she didn't actually like him.
Deep down, Patrick was losing it. He had real feelings for Kaitlyn. He hadn't had feelings for a girl since he made the varsity hockey team in ninth grade. He hooked up with plenty of girls but Kaitlyn was different. He liked her.
Patrick stopped in front of her house. He unbuckled, climbing out. He opened Kaitlyn's door, helping her down. They slowly walked up her path to her front door. She turned to him and frowned.
"Hey, we'll do this again." He smiled, lifting her chin.
"Oh, that's not it. I just remembered I have another test tomorrow." She chuckled.
Pat rolled his eyes. "You'll do fine. You're, like, an honours student." He said, pulling her into a hug.
She scoffed as she hugged back. "Hardly. I'm probably closer to a delinquent than an h,"
He shut her up by pressing his lips to hers. "You have to learn to not doubt yourself." He breathed, his eyes still shut from the kiss.
She looked up at his face. "And when to stop t,"
He reattached his lips. His hands found her waist and pulled her closer. She held onto his face as they kissed. Someone knocked on the door, from the inside. Kaitlyn pulled away and growled. Pat laughed.
"I'm so sorry. Tom's such a fucking," The door was hit again. She shook her head. "I'm going to kill him." She whispered.
Patrick smiled and pecked her lips again. "I'll see you tomorrow. Sit with me at lunch?" He said as he walked out of reach.
"Oh man, you'll probably have to reserve me a seat." She mocked.
He rolled his eyes. "Goodnight, Kaitlyn." He waved as he walked to his car.
Pat sat in his car. He leaned against the steering wheel, exhaling. He never expected to like Kaitlyn to this extent. He sat back, looking up at her house. He saw her silhouette in her window. He shook his head at himself before driving off.
The next day, Kaitlyn walked into the cafeteria at lunch. She saw Patrick sitting at the usual table. He was beside Jon, on the end, and there was room for her to squeeze. She walked over, placing her bag on the table as she sat.
"Hey." She greeted.
She received a bunch of greetings from the table. Ainsley sat across the table, waiting for Patrick to react. She knew all about their date and his confusion. He called her to complain. She told him to suck it up and go for the girl if he liked her.
Pat completely ignored Kaitlyn. She didn't think anything of it, but Ainsley knew him to well. She sent Patrick a text telling him to acknowledge Kaitlyn. He read it and ignored it. Ainsley threw a fry at him. He ignored that too.
"Patrick Kane, you piece of shit." She hissed.
"What?" He furrowed his brows.
"The girl you like is sitting beside you and you're pretend she's not there as if you're better than her." Ainsley explained.
Pat looked over his shoulder at Kaitlyn and shrugged. "I mean, she's cool, but I wouldn't say I like her."
"Don't act like you didn't call me freaking out because of how into her you are." Ainsley rolled her eyes.
"Ainsley, shut up." Kaitlyn whined.
"You're fucking crazy." Patrick said to Ainsley, shaking his head.
He stood up, grabbing his lunch tray. He climbed out of his spot. Ainsley looked around the table for something to throw. She spotted a chocolate milk. She picked it up and threw it, causing it to splatter all over Pat's back.
"You are trash." She hissed. "You don't even fucking deserve Kaitlyn. You are scum, you a,"
Jamie covered her mouth. Patrick stared at her before his eyes shifted to Kaitlyn. She shook her head before she stood and stormed past him, making sure to bump him as she passed. He wanted to tell her to wait but couldn't. He just watched her walk out.
