No Sense of Direction

No Sense of Direction 030:

Chapter Thirty

“What are you doing here, Sidney?” I asked as I looked to see him walking into the stables.

“Come on, Kat,” he said sadly as I stopped brushing Nightwing and looked at him, “We’ve been home for three days, are you going to talk to me?”

“Why are you so interested in my relationship with Milan?”

“Because he’s no good, Katrina! Everyone sees it! Your brothers, the team, your brother’s team!” he said and I shook my head, “Why can’t you?”

“Go away, Sidney,” I said as I shook my head and turned back to Nightwing.

“No.”

“Excuse me?” I said shocked and looked at him to see he was coming closer, “Sidney, stop!”

“No,” he said and then I backed up and hit Balto’s stall, “Not until you listen to me.”

“Why should I?”

“Because I care about you, Katrina!” he yelled and my eyes widened, “I really like you, and I don’t like the fact that you’re with Lucic! Can’t you see he’s just using you?”

“Sid-“ I stopped myself, his arms were on each side of me, pinning me against the stall, “But Milan-”

“He’s not here,” Sidney said and I felt his hand on my cheek. He smelled so good, and his touch, I couldn’t help but lean into it, “I’m here, Katrina.”

“I’m engaged, Sidney! I’m getting married to-“

“Don’t,” Sidney said quickly and I looked into his eyes, “Don’t marry him.”

“I-“

“Don’t marry him, Katrina,” Sidney breathed and then leaned in, his face was inches from mine, our lips barely touching, his hot breath on my face, “Tell me you won’t marry him, Katrina.”

“What?” I asked not able to think clearly.

“Tell me!” he said a little forcefully and it made me groan when he pressed his body against mine, “Say it!”

“I won’t-“

“That’s it!”

“I won’t mar-“

BEEP…BEEP…BEEP…BEEP

My eyes fluttered opened and I slammed my hand on the alarm clock and saw that I was in my hotel room and it was about seven in the morning.

“Just a dream,” I muttered as I thought about it, “Dammit, now I’m dreaming about him.”

I got out of my bed and grabbed my clothes from my bag and walked into the bathroom. I took a quick shower and then got dressed to get ready for the four hour bus ride back to Pittsburgh.

Three days had passed; we won our game on Saturday against the Rangers, and then our game against the Sabres yesterday. After some much needed rest, it was time for us to head out to go back home, we had a home game against the Panthers’ tomorrow.

I grabbed my bag and walked over towards the door and opened it to see Marc standing there looking like he was about to knock.

“Oh, Kat, we’re getting ready to- Wow, you look like you got no sleep,” he said and I sighed and shook my head.

“How are you married?” I asked as I walked passed him and saw that Tyler Kennedy was next to him.

“What do you mean?” he asked while hopping next to me.

“You talk like that to Veronique?” I asked and he sighed.

“No she’d slap me,” he muttered.

“Good to know,” I said and then smacked the back of his head, “Now I know what to do.”

“Devious little-“

“You’re messing with a girl who barely slept last night and who doesn’t have coffee in her system,” I said and stopped to look at him, “Tell me how that makes sense?”

“Wow, you’re not a morning person,” Tyler said and I sighed and continued to walk.

“Let’s just go,” I muttered and headed to the elevator and went to the first floor with Tyler and Marc.

“Found her!” Marc said as he came out of the elevator, “Be careful, she’s in her biting faze.”

“Shut up,” I growled and then walked out of the elevator to see that all the guys were standing there and we were waiting for the bus to come and take us to the airport.

“Here,” I heard and looked to see Sidney holding out a coffee.

“Thanks,” I said and took it, taking a gulp of the hot liquid.

“Can we talk?” Sidney asked and I looked up towards him and then immediately looked away because every time I looked at his face, I pictured this morning’s dream.

“Uh-“

“Bus is here!” Uncle Dan called and I sighed.

“Maybe later, Sid,” I said and then started to head towards the front, because I wanted the back seat.

-Sidney-

It was awkward around Kat, she didn’t want to talk to me, and it was all my fault. I had to be stupid and ask her, again might I add, if she was really in love with Milan Lucic. She hadn’t really talked to me since then and I felt really bad, and found myself missing her talking to me.

She sat in the back of the bus, leaning against the window and laying her legs out across the seat. I sighed when I saw that she had her headphones in and looked like she was trying to sleep. We had a four hour drive ahead of us, so I figured that she would have some chance to get some sleep.

“Why is she so crabby?” Marc asked and I sighed and looked to see that some of the other guys were looking at me.

“What?” I asked confused.

“What did you say to her?” Kris asked as he turned around in the seat in front of me.

“What makes you-“

“Really man?” James asked from the seat next to Kris and I sighed.

“I asked her if she really love Lucic,” I stated quickly and the guys winced and shook their heads.

“No wonder your girlfriend track is like two,” Kris teased and I shook my head.

“You never asked that?” James said.

“When did you ask her that?” Marc asked front the seat behind me and I turned my head.

“Uh, Friday night when you guys were out,” I answered and then felt Kris punch my shoulder.

“Idiot! We practically serve her up to you on a golden platter and you royally screw up!” Kris growled and I sighed.

“I mean, we did have a moment!” I said and they looked at me, “But I think I moved too fast.”

“Man, stick to hockey; because that’s what you know!” James teased and I shook my head.

“Sid, not know women,” Geno said from next to me and I groaned.

“Well, what do I do know?” I asked as I looked at them.

“We’ll come up with another plan for you to apologize to her,” Kris said and Geno sighed.

“What not do now?” Geno asked as he pointed towards the back of the bus, “We know he do it then.”

“Fine,” I muttered and then stood up and walked towards the back of the bus. When I saw her, I thought that she was asleep, but as I got closer, I just saw that she looked to be staring off into space, “Kat.”

She looked at me and then sighed, “Yeah.”

“I’m sorry,” I said and then sat in the seat next to her, “I don’t know why I asked that.”

“Again.”

“I’m sorry,” I muttered and looked at her.

“You don’t what it’s like, Sidney,” Kat muttered and I looked at her to see that she was looking out the window.

“What what’s like?” I asked confused, I didn’t understand what she was talking about, and I desperately wanted to, “Kat?”

“Forget it,” she said and then sighed.

“Kat.”

“I forgive you, just- Just stop asking me about Milan,” she muttered and then looked at me, and I saw that sadness, the loneliness in her eyes.

I nodded my head and then placed my hand on her knee, “If you ever want to talk-“

“Thanks,” she said quickly and I nodded my head.
