No Sense of Direction 070:

Chapter Seventy

Hockey season was over, the Penguins lost against the Bruins in the finals and then Bruins beat the Kings, winning the Stanley Cup. I was excited because Tyler was the one who made the winning goal, with the final score being four to three. I was jumping up and down on the couch next to an unamused Sidney and Zach, but I wasn't cheering for the Bruins, I was cheering for Tyler, my little brother from another mother.

Since the season was over, that meant that some of the guys were going home. Chris was home and I was happy to see him, Tyler said he would visit with me before he went home, Zach was home, Sidney was here for another month before he went to Nova Scotia for a month.

Dana and I were sad to hear that there was another stable being built close to ours, so we thought that we were going to have competition, apparently not, the people that were going to come to us, had called us up and changed to the new place being built. But to cancel their ‘membership’ with us, they had to pay a fine, which all of them did.

Dana and I had Marc and Vero go down to the new place to see why everyone was leaving us, they sneaked around acting like they were interested and found out that the place was cheaper than ours and that the owner of the place was an old family rival named Anthony.

Out of the four employees that I hired, we only kept one, Frank, the man whose wife had just died. He wanted to work; he has no family around here, so I told him that I would keep him around. With the money that we had received from the people who’s horses that we lost, I was going to remodel the old stables. The new stables we had built were larger than the others, and we had more of them. We had eight horses, Balto, Lola, Care-Bear, Blaze, Snowflake, Starfire, Nightwing, a woman who was down the street has a golden horse named Pointer, and then Marc had told me that he was getting Vero a horse for her birthday, so their horse was going to be nine.

In the remodeled area, there was now a washing and brushing area; a storage area that had saddles, harness, blankets, horse shoes, tools, etc.; three extra stalls and my office was built bigger. The office had two professional desks in it, one for Dana and one for me. There were three apartments built above the stables, there was going to be four, but I decided three because Dana was going to have one half of the stables, while the other half was going to be divided into two apartments.

Right now I was in the stables giving Starfire a bath, I was scrubbing the soap on her, wearing only shorts, a black tank top and my old sneakers that I used for washing the horses. I could hear Frank whistling while he cleaned the stalls in the other half of the stables.

It was about six at night, I had been working in the stables all day, getting paperwork and bills finished, making sure the horses were up to date on their medicine and everything was clean. We brought the horses in before because it looked like it was about to storm. Dana was gone for the day with Zach; she left about eight this morning. When I came out, the horses were fed and waiting to be placed outside, not long after I walked into the barn, Frank walked down the stairs, ready to work.

“Hey babe,” I heard and turned around to see Sidney walking into the barns.

“Hey,” I said and he looked at me confused because it wasn’t the happy ‘hey’ that I usually give him.

“What’s wrong?” he asked and I shook my head.

“Nothing, I’m just tired,” I said and he nodded his head, walked over towards me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

“Want some help?” he asked and I smirked and turned around in his arms.

“No, but thank you, Starfire’s the last of them,” I said and he nodded his head and then kissed my cheek, “You can wait in the office, I’ll be in, in about twenty minutes.”

“It’s all right,” he said and then walked over towards the barrels and sat down.

“So how come you’re not out with the boys?” I asked as I walked back over towards the Starfire and then grabbed the hose, spraying the soap off of her body.

“Eh, it got moved to tomorrow because it was going to rain,” he said and I nodded my head. Sidney and some of the other boys that were still here were supposed to have a football picnic game today, but I guess not, “What did you do all day?”

“You’re looking at it,” I laughed a little and he smirked.

“You work too hard,” he said and I shrugged my shoulders, “I don’t know how you do it.”

“I’m that good,” I smirked and Sidney laughed a little.

“Miss Katrina, do you- Oh, hello,” I turned around to see Frank walking towards us, holding Snowflakes’ reins.

“Oh, Frank this is-“

“Sidney Crosby,” Frank said with a smile on his face, holding out his hand and then taking it back, “We’ll save that for later, still need to wash them.”

“Right,” Sidney said and I smirked, “Nice to meet you…”

“Frank,” he said and Sidney smiled and nodded his head.

“Nice to meet you, Frank.”

“Pleasure to meet the face of NHL,” he smiled brightly and I laughed.

“Frank’s a big hockey fan,” I said and Sidney nodded his head, “He didn’t believe me when I told him how we would have some hockey players walking around here a lot, also didn’t believe me that I was the Penguins trainer.”

Sidney laughed and Frank blushed, rubbing the back of his neck, “Yeah, sorry ‘bout that, Miss Katrina.”

“It’s fine Frank,” I laughed, “And it’s just Kat.”

“All right,” he said and then waved and then turned around and started to walk away with Snowflake, but then stopped and turned back around, “Almost forgot the reason I came over here.”

I laughed a little and turned the hose off to look at him, “Snowflake here has been acting a little weird and showing signs of being pregnant.”

“Pregnant?” I asked and Frank nodded his head. I placed the hose down, walked over towards the chair that I had placed all of the washing supplies on to grab the dry rag and dry myself off, before I walked over towards Snowflake.

“Who would the dad be?” Sidney asked and I smirked.

“Well,” I laughed as I bent over and placed my hand on Snowflakes’ stomach, “I would imagine Nightwing, those two are usually together.”

“What do you think?” Frank asked as I stood up and sighed.

“Well, her stomach is definitely bigger,” I said and then scratched the back of my head, “You sure she’s been showing signs?” I asked and Frank nodded his head, “All right, I’ll call Doc in the morning, he’s probably gone by now, and she doesn’t need imitate attention.”

“All right,” Frank said and I smirked and patted Snowflakes neck.

“Can you put a note on my desk?” I asked and Frank nodded his head and then started to walk away with Snowflake and I went back to washing Starfire.

When I finished, we all heard a big crack of thunder and then heard some of the horses freaking out. Starfire gave me a hard time, but I managed to get her back to her stall and she paced around and kicked at the wood. I sighed and then walked over towards Blaze who was panting and almost crying out, he ran in circles around his stall and I sighed and walked over towards him.

“Will that be all Miss Katrina?” Frank asked as I stood in front of Blaze’s stall.

“Yes, that it for today, thank you,” I smiled and Frank nodded his head and then headed towards the stairs towards his apartment.

“They don’t like this storm,” Sidney said as he walked up behind me and I shook my head.

“They never do,” I said and Sidney sighed, “Back up.”

“Wha-“

“Back up,” I said and he nodded his head. I was probably going to regret this, but I opened Blaze’s stall door and stood in front of it, holding my arms out. Blaze came over towards me and almost pushed me back, but I grabbed his harness and started to pat his neck, “It’s all right boy,” I soothed and Sidney closed the door as he walked in, “Be careful,” I said and Sidney nodded his head and walked over towards Blaze and stood on the other side, trying to calm him down as well.

-Sidney-

We calmed the horses down, Kat gave them something and most of them calmed down a little. She walked into her office and saw the note on her desk and moved it to the door, that way when she comes here tomorrow morning, she would see it.

“You’re stressed,” I sighed and she nodded her head and collapsed into her chair in front of her desk.

“I’m pissed that Anthony took all of our people,” she growled, “Six horses that were suppose to come here, changed their mine and went to his.”

“It’ll be all right,” I said as I walked over towards her and rubbed her arms and shoulders, “You’ll figure something out.”

“Yeah,” she said and I smirked when I heard her stomach growl, “Guess I skipped breakfast,” she said and then shrugged her shoulders, “And lunch.”

“Damn Kat! You need to take care of yourself!” I said and she sighed, “Come on, let me take you out.”

“No, I don’t want to go anywhere,” she said and we heard more thunder and saw that it was pouring outside.

“Come on, I’ll make you something,” I said as I took her hand and walked her out of the office and towards the front of the stables.

“You can cook?” I asked and Sidney smirked and nodded his head, “Well all righty then,” I laughed.

We ran back into the house because it was pouring, but it didn’t matter, we were still soaked. Chris was in the hallway and said that he would get us some towels. Baxter and Daisy ran over, wagging their tails and then trying to jump on us.

We dried ourselves off and I draped the towel around my shoulders and looked towards Kat to see her drying her hair, ‘…God, if she didn’t need to eat something, I would jump her right…’ I thought as I looked at her in her tank and short shorts.

“Hey,” I said and grabbed her arm, pulling her back into me, placing my hand on her neck and then pressing my lips onto hers, “I love you.”

She smirked and then bit her lip, ‘…God I love that!...’ If her stomach didn’t growl, I walked have pinned her to the wall and had my way with her right there.

Kat reached up and brought her lips to my ear, “I know,” she giggled and then kissed my cheek and turned to skip towards the kitchen, with me not far behind.
