Waiting for Superman

Locked Up Inside her Apartment

Main POV (Kylie):
"Patrick where are you? Its 3 in the morning!" I yelled through the phone. The voice mail beeped and I slammed my phone down on the counter. "Dammit!" I yelled, it echoed through Pat and I's empty Chicago apartment. I slammed my head into my hands, while perched upon a tall stool by the kitchen island. I felt hot tears drip from face onto my gray tank top and pink soffee shorts. Patrick seemed to be staying out later and later these nights through the season. We had just moved in together last month, and I felt as if I saw him even less than I did when we lived apart. Between road trips, and Patrick's late night outings with his single teammates, I began to feel like maybe Pat didn't want this anymore. However, there was not much I could do about it. I was alone in Chicago without Patrick. Its like i'm a small town girl being eaten alive by a big city.

Patrick and I met in my hometown of Boston, where I attended Northeastern University. I remember the night like it was yesterday. A few friends and I decided to attend a Bruins vs. Blackhawks game, after the four of us decided to go to a small, sports bar in downtown Boston. Little did we, know a few of the Blackhawks headed there after their game as well. It was my best friend Mackenna who started talking to the group of Patrick, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, and Andrew Shaw. Mackenna later introduced Patrick and I.

Patrick and I didn't exactly hit it off at first. I have to admit I was a bit cold and somewhat bitchy to him at first. What can I say? The kid has a reputation. But Pat got my number from Mackenna, and his persistence paid off.

Pat and I dated, flying back and forth, for a year while I finished school. When I finally graduated, I got a journalistic offer from the Chicago Tribune and Patrick was hell bent on me moving in with him. I didn't put up much of a fight.

Thinking back to our first few dates, made me smile. Patrick was so attentive, sweet, and caring. And he still is, sometimes.

I brushed a piece of long, blonde hair out of my eyes. "Fuck this" I said loudly, grabbing my phone off the counter I plugged it into the charger on the wall and went to bed.

Patrick's POV:
"Kaner!" I heard Jonathan Toews yell through the crowd of people at the bar, "Come do another shot!" I shuffled off the bar stool, barely able to stand, I took the shot from Jonny. "Damn what time is it?" I asked. "Almost 3:30" Andrew Shaw said. "Oh fuck, I gotta go!" I yelled. "Me too, i'll call a cab" Brandon Saad said.

I pulled out my phone from my pocket to see several texts from people congratulating me on the win against the LA Kings that night. I had texts and calls from my parents, friends, sisters, but right now all I cared about was Kylie. I had left her again, and I knew I shouldn't of. Why did I always fuck this up? I scrolled to her contact to see I had 2 missed calls from her and a text. One call was at 1am, another at 2am and a text.

Kylie: I'm not sure where you are but i'm going to bed, I have work tomorrow. I can't keep doing this every time you guys have a game Pat, I love you.

"Fuck!" I said out loud. "You alright Kaner?" Saader said. I had almost forgotten he was
sitting next to me. "Yea, I just fucked up, again, nothing new." I said. "It'll be alright man." Saader said patting me on the back. By the time we got back to our apartment building it was almost 4 am.

I stumbled into Kylie and I's apartment to see the bedroom door closed, and Kylie's phone charging on the counter. I knew I had screwed up big. Kylie had never gone to bed before I got home she always waited up for me. Afraid I would wake her up, I passed out on the couch, hopefully I would sober up before tomorrow morning.
