One Shots

Goodbyes and Sunsets

“You know I’ll miss you." Jeff said as he packed his bag, Faith sat down on his bed and sighed to herself.
"Yeah I know." She frowned.
Jeff was leaving for a five day trip to play against the Western teams; she was never apart from Jeff for more than two days and usually went to most of his games.
"I’ll be back soon, the days will fly by quickly, and it’ll be like I never left" He kissed her forehead and pulled her into a hug.
She didn’t want to mention the fact that after he comes back he’ll have to get back on the road for his other games, Jeff was trying his best to cheer her up and she didn’t want to ruin that.
"Can we spend this last night together please?" She asked.
"Of course, let’s go watch the sunset one last time." He grabbed her hand and led her out to the balcony; he sat down in one of the lounge chairs and pulled her down onto his lap.
She cuddled into his chest as he pulled the blanket over the two of them, they did this frequently, they’d come outside and watch the sunset together, and every time he’d remind her how much he loves her.
"I’m in love with you." He whispered.
She looked up at him and smiled, “I’m in love with you.” she repeated.
"Every time I watch the sunset I think of you, the time I first saw you, you were with your friends they were all playing in the water but you, you weren’t. You were sitting in the sand brushing your hair away from your eyes as you watched your friends have the time of their lives. I watched you for a while, you didn’t seem to notice." He spoke.
“I remember walking up to you and sitting down trying to find something to say, I remember buying you ice cream and walking along the shoreline as you told me about yourself. I remember sitting on the edge of the pier watching the sunset by your side, sunsets, they were always our thing.”
"Can we stay like this forever?" She mumbled, "I don’t want you to leave."
"I don’t want to leave you, but I have to." He sighed; he pulled her closer into his chest as he rested his head against hers.
The more time he spent with Faith the more he fell in love with her, his love grew for her as each day passed by and every time he had to leave Carolina it got harder and harder to say goodbye.
Once the sun had set they walked back into their shared room and Jeff began packing his equipment again, Elias would be here in an hour to pick up Jeff on their way to the airport.

He grabbed his bags with Faith’s help and brought them over to the door, he heard Elias honk from outside letting him know he was there, he sighed as he faced Faith not knowing how to say goodbye.
“I’m going to miss you so much!” He grabbed her and pulled her into a tight hug, he rested his head against her shoulder as he held his arms firmly against her waist.
“I will too, I love you.” She pulled away from his hug and pressed her lips to his, he pulled away and frowned at her, he didn’t want to leave as much as she didn’t want him to.
She opened the front door for him and smiled, “Go score some goals for me.”
“I will, I love you so much.” He kissed her one last time before grabbing his things and walking out the door.
