I'm going Home

"This one has six bedrooms, and obviously you have your own dock." The realtor lead Patrick, the boys and I through an enormous lake house on Canandaigua Lake in New York. It was gorgeous. "Ill give you a few minutes" the realtor said, stepping away.

"What do you think?" Patrick said smiling, "I love it" I said. "Me too" he said putting an arm around my waist, "What about you guys?" Patrick yelled to the boys.

"Mom, Dad theres a huge pool out there!" The boys screamed running in from outside. Each of them ran into our arms. "Thats a lake" Patrick laughed.

"Do we have a decision?" the realtor asked coming back into the empty space. "yup" Patrick smiled at Cody in his arms, "We'll take it."

"Yay" the boys shouted.

"Great" the realtor smiled, "If you'll both just signed here, you can start moving in whenever you'd like"

Patrick and I had finally settled on a summer home. We needed a place where all of us could relax, and take our minds off hockey. Patrick would still workout but now the boys, would have somewhere to play outside, and they had a huge lake to play in. A lot of memories would be made in this lake house.

Patrick the boys and I stayed with Patrick's family for only four days until we had the lake house furnished. We had amazed ourselves. In less than a week, we had furnished, an eight bedroom house. One kids room, one master bedroom, four guest rooms, one home gym, one living room, one 'man cave', 5 bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a playroom.

By Friday of that week the four of us were finally all moved into to the lake house, with two months of summer left to spend there.I woke up Saturday feeling a bit nauseous, almost, like morning sickness. I decided to take a test, just to be sure. I fished to the bottom of my baby bag and pulled out a test.

After three minutes, of uncertainty it was confirmed, I was pregnant, again.

Patrick and I had been talking about having more kids, but hadn't necessarily been trying.

I walked outside to see Patrick and the boys watching NHL network, all in that same position, arms crossed and legs flailed out in front of them.

Patrick came over to me, to kiss me good morning, "Wait, you have that look" he said putting his arms around my waist. "What look?" I said laughing, "That look" he said, "Patrick" I said smiling, "I'm pregnant."

He was shocked, "What?!"he yelled lifting me off the ground.

"Whats going on?" Shayne said coming into the kitchen.

"Boys Mommy's having a baby." Patrick said kissing me on the cheek.

"We're getting another brother" they yelled jumping up and down.

Patrick and I looked at each other laughing, "We don't know" I said, "It could be a sister."

"Ew" Cody said
"Girls are gross" Shayne added.

"Yea I thought that once too." Patrick said as we both laughed and he kissed me on the cheek.
...

We decided to invite some of Patrick's teammates and their families over, to celebrate the baby, and to start of a new season that was quickly approaching.

Patrick and Abby Sharp and their two daughters, Brent and Dayna Seabrook, and their son Carter, Duncan and Kelly Rae Keith and their son Colton, Jonathan and Mackenna, Andrew Shaw and Chaunette, Bryan an Amanda Bickell and Brandon Saad and his girlfriend Alyssa, most would arrive at the lake house on Friday and stay until Monday.

Patrick and I were excited about the pregnancy, but reasonably nervous. After the problems we had experienced in the past, we always wanted to stay guarded.

I turned my attention to getting the house ready for everyone who was coming, which would have been easier without two two year olds running wild through the house. I had to put sheets in every guest room, pack hamburgers and freeze them, set out extra lounge chairs, and do all this almost two months pregnant. Patrick was doing his daily workout and had advised me to wait until he got back, but failed to realize that our guests were arriving tomorrow.

We had gone to visit a local doctor, who had helped us come to the conclusion that we had gotten pregnant the night, after the boys hockey game. I don't know how I didn't notice, my last pregnancy I knew practically right away that something felt different.

"Mommy!" I heard Cody yell up the stairs, as I put sheets on the last bed, "Shayne had a accident!"

Ugh, I thought. Now what? I walked downstairs, holding a basket of laundry, to see Shayne laughing as he stood in a puddle of his own pee.

"Sorry Mommy" he laughed, and smiled.

As I stood on the staircase, trying to lose it, a basket of undone laundry on my hip, Patrick came in from his workout.

Seeing me standing on the stairs, eyes locked on Shayne, he slowly began to piece together what was going on.

"Shayne, come on man." He said, before turning to look at me.

"Oh no!" I laughed, "This one's all you."

Patrick laughed and then groaned.

I continued to finish load after load of laundry, and by 5 o'clock, I finally walked outside to see Patrick playing with Cody and Shayne by the edge of the water. The sight of my husband, playing with our two sons, on the edge of our beautiful lake house, made everything worth it. All the laundry, all the cleaning, all the 'accidents', they didn't matter.

"Mommy!" Shayne yelled running into my arms. Patrick and I sat on the hill, his arm around me as we watched our sons play on the water, underneath the sunset. I never wanted to leave, this moment.
...
"Congratulations!" Abby said, hugging me, as all four Sharps came through the door.

"Another one past the goalie" Sharpy said fist bumping Patrick, "Congrats man."

"Thanks Sharpy."

"Uncle Patrick!" Shayne and Cody said running into Sharpy's arms.

"Hey guys!" he said lifting them both up.

I turned my attention to Madelyn, "Hey Mads" I said kneeling down. She clung to her moms leg.

I stood up to talk to Abby, she was usually such a talkative little girl, it was weird to see her so out of character.

"She's been like this the whole way here, I don't know whats wrong." Abby said.
...

The day went on and guest continued arriving, the guys decided to take the boat out, while the wives, girlfriends, and kids hung around the dock.I was anxious to talk to Mackenna and see what was going on with her and Jonathan.

"So," I said taking the lawn chair next to her, "How are things going with you two?"

"Amazing." she said throwing her brown hair back against the chair, "He's so sweet, so attentive, he's way different than Boston boys."

"Believe me I know that." I said, I loved Boston, I was and always would be a Boston girl, but the people there were known for a certain attitude, sarcasm, and to be honest, rudeness.

We laughed, "Do you think he's the one?" I asked.

A huge smile spread across her face, and she nodded. We squealed like little girls, we were interrupted when Madelyn came up the hill in her fish bathing suit.

"Where's Daddy?" she asked sitting on Abby's laughed. "Daddy's out on the boat." she said.

"I want Daddy!" She yelled crossing her arms. "He'll be in soon." Abby said sweetly.

Something was clearly going on with Madelyn, she never acted out.

Shortly later Colton, Carter, Shayne, and Cody came sprinting up the hill. "There's a group." Chaunette said, we all laughed. These three were clearly going to be trouble together.

They flew around the lounge chairs, running up and down the hill. "Come on Maddy!" Cody said trying to get Madelyn, to play. "no" She said laying back on her moms lap.

"Whats wrong Mads?" Abby asked, Madelyn just laid there on her moms lap, "I want Daddy" she said.

Patrick's POV:
We were out on the boat almost all day. It felt good to be back with the boys again, but whenever I wasn't with Kylie or the kids, it always felt a little strange, like something was missing. But a few beers in, and we were all feeling good.

"Kaner you sure you can handle three? i'm barely making it through with one" Seabs said.

"I don't know," I said, taking a sip of beer, "I haven't really thought about it yet." between the boys, workouts, and getting the house ready, Kylie and I had barely had time to talk about it.

"Do you think Kylie wants a girl?" Bicks asked.

"I don't think she cares" I said.

"What do you want?" Sharpy asked and all the guys leaned in.

"I think a girl would be cool." I said.

"awwwwwww," they all echoed sarcastically.

"Shut up" I laughed, "Eh Tazer how's Mackenna?"

All the guys let out an oooooooo.

"Shut up!" he yelled, "She's fine, good"

"how good is she?" Shawzie said, and we all laughed.

"better than Chaunette." Tazer said, the guys tried not to laugh, but we all held our breath a bit, smiling.

"Fuck you Jonny" Shawzie said.

"Alright, alright, everyone chill," Sharpy cut in, "We're all friends here"

We all laughed it off, and decided to head in.

...
Kylie's POV:

"She's been crying for you all day." Abby said as she handed Madelyn to Sharpy.

"Whats wrong Mads?" Sharpy asked as he took her into his arms.

Madelyn said nothing but clung to her Dad.

"Daddy!" the boys screamed running at Patrick.

The women decided to start making salad and other things inside, while Patrick started the grill.

I looked out the kitchen window, onto the porch, where Madelyn was still attached to her Dad.

"What do you think is going on with Madelyn?" I asked Abby and we cut up vegetables.

"I think she's worried about starting school" Abby said, "She's been a little clingy ever since we started talking about kindergarten."

"Awww, poor kid" Chaunette said.

Patrick and I hadn't even considered school yet, but the boys were still young.
...
The weekend was filled with sun, jet skiis, and a lot of funny memories. Monday morning after everyone left, Patrick and I had to start packing up the lake house. Patrick drove the boat into the shed while I closed all the windows, and locked them. I packed up all the boys clothes, and toys, including Patricks, the man still could not handle packing his own suitcase.

Patrick loaded all our stuff into the car for the long ride home to Chicago. We hugged Patrick's parents and sisters, they had come by to say goodbye.

"Bye Gramma" Shayne waved as he got in the car. Patrick's mom was on the verge of tears as we pulled away.

I was going to miss the lake house, but it would be good to get home.
