The Last Goodbye

Adam Burish Asking for Help With a Girl

“You’re living here?” Adam asked in disbelief as he and Patrick stepped into Patrick’s new home for the next month. “Dude, this place is amazing! Why didn’t I sign up to be the bachelor instead of the host?” he asked, looking around the enormous living room and up the staircase that led upstairs.

“Because you wouldn’t be able to pick just one girl in the end,” Patrick told him.

“That’s true,” Adam agreed, nodding his head as he walked around the room and going into the kitchen. “Seriously, this place is incredible,” he said, looking around the fully stocked kitchen, including the refrigerator which held every drink that someone could think of, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. “They’re planning on you drinking, aren’t they?” he commented.

“No, they’re planning on the girls drinking,” Patrick replied, taking a look at the refrigerator contents himself. “Haven’t you watched any reality shows?” he questioned. “They always try to get everyone drunk so they can get some interesting footage to air.”

“And, with you drunk, I’m sure they’ll have some interesting footage,” Adam said. “I mean, for the fifteen minutes before you pass out on the couch. Because we all know you can’t hold your liquor,” he clarified.

“Shut up,” Patrick told him, walking away and up the stairs. He looked down the hallway, opening up the first door on his left to see two beds in there. He heard Adam’s footsteps behind him, and he said, “This must be where the girls are staying. I guess I’m on the other side of the house.”

“You may be staying on the other side of the house, but I’m definitely spending most of my time over here,” Adam said. “Twenty hot girls this close together. Oh yeah, I’m definitely staying over here,” he added with a smile.

“I see you found the girls’ side of the house,” Delaney’s voice came from behind them, causing both men to jump and then spin around towards her. “How have you liked the house so far?” she asked, a smile on her face.

“This place is incredible,” Patrick replied, stepping out of the girls’ room into the hallway.

“Good,” Delaney said. “I’m glad you like it. Have you seen your room yet?” she asked him.

“No, I was trying to find it, but I ended up here instead,” Patrick told her.

“Well, let me show you,” Delaney said, motioning for them to follow her as she took them to the other side of the house. “Hopefully you’ll like it. It has just about anything and everything you could ever want in it. We want you to enjoy yourself while you’re here for the next month,” she said, opening the door to the bedroom. “Here you go.”

Patrick walked inside with Adam right behind him. Delaney hadn’t been exaggerating when she had told them that anything and everything imaginable was in the room. There was a flat screen plasma television, a computer, numerous video games systems, and just about everything else he could ever ask for. “It’s like they think you’re going to spend more time here in your room than with the girls,” Adam commented.

“We just wanted him to feel comfortable, like he’s at home,” Delaney defended.

“This is better than my home,” Patrick said with a laugh.

“So you like it?” Delaney asked him.

“Yes, I like it,” Patrick confirmed with a nod of his head.

“Good,” she said, glancing down at her watch. “Oh, Adam, you’ve got to meet the writers,” she said, looking over at Adam, who was going over the movie collection that was sitting in the corner of the room, trying to figure out why Patrick would have time to watch movies when there were twenty beautiful girls in the same house as him.

“Oh, right,” Adam replied. “Gotta do some work.”

“They’re going to meet you in the living room,” Delaney told him. “Do you remember where that is?” she asked him.

“Uh…sure,” Adam said.

“Let me show you,” Delaney laughed before turning back around towards Patrick. “Stay here,” she told him. “I’ll be right back and we can go over how tomorrow’s going to go with you meeting the girls.”

Patrick nodded his head, while Delaney walked out of the room with Adam right behind her. “How is Kaner the lucky one that gets to have one-on-one time with a beautiful lady like yourself?” Adam asked her as they walked down the stairs.

“Is that some sort of modified line that you use on girls all the time?” Delaney questioned, and Adam blushed with embarrassment. “Because it’s a pretty awful line,” she laughed.

“So, what should I do to get a woman like you?” Adam asked.

“You should turn into someone else,” she suggested with a laugh. “Listen, Adam, I’m sure you’re a nice guy, under that ladies’ man exterior,” she said, stopping him just outside of the living room where the writers were sitting, waiting on him. “But, I can’t date you. I work with you. You’re on the show that I’m producing. It just wouldn’t be professional for us to date,” she explained.

“I’m the host. It’s not like I’m in Kaner’s spot, being the bachelor and all,” he pointed out.

“Still, it wouldn’t be professional. I’m sorry,” she apologized.

“I’ll see you around, Delaney,” he said, walking into the living room.

“Bye, Adam,” Delaney replied, turning around and walking back up the stairs towards Patrick’s room. She stood outside the door, watching as Patrick stood in the corner of the room, staring in awe at everything that was inside. Delaney took a step inside, saying, “Sorry about that. You ready to talk about tomorrow?”

“Sure,” Patrick nodded his head, following Delaney out of the room and into another room that had a table and a few chairs set up inside. He took a look around, and Delaney could tell that he was confused as to what the room was to be used for.

“This is where I’ll be interviewing you after every elimination,” she clarified, and she could tell that Patrick now understood why the room was so bare. “Anyways, have a seat, and we can get started,” she said, taking the binder out of her bag and opening it up to where pictures and information of all the girls was. “Okay, so when the girls first arrive tomorrow, before you meet them, we’re going to film the opening sequence with them. Then, we’re going to do the little bit where Adam first meets them and gives the viewers and the girls a brief rundown of the rules.”

“Okay,” Patrick said to let her know that he was still listening to her.

“After that, we’ll film the intro part where you first meet the girls one-on-one. Hopefully, it’ll only take one shot for each girl and we’ll get finished filming fairly early tomorrow. But, more than likely, there’ll be a couple of girls that won’t do it correctly, and you’ll end up filming it two or three times for one girl.”

“How long do you think the filming’s going to take?” Patrick inquired.

“Well, I’m not really sure,” she told him. “You won’t start filming until probably the early afternoon. Hopefully we’ll be done in time for dinner. If you’re still filming at that time, we’ll give you a small break for dinner, and then finish filming. After you’re finished filming, you’ll be free to hang out with the girls for the rest of the night without the cameras rolling,” Delaney said. “That is, until eleven, which is the girls’ bedtime.”

“Bedtime?” Patrick questioned, raising one of his eyebrows at her.

“Did no one tell you about that?” Delaney asked, and Patrick shook his head. “The girls have a bedtime every night. It’s a part of the contract they signed. Every night, they have to be in their rooms by eleven. Obviously, you don’t have a bedtime,” she said with a laugh, imagining trying to give Patrick Kane a bedtime.

“Good to know,” Patrick laughed along.

“Do you have any other questions?” Delaney asked him.

“Not right now.”

“Okay, well if you have any between now and tomorrow, you can always give me a call. Do you have my number?” she asked, and Patrick shook his head. “Oh, well here you go,” she said, pulling out a business card from her binder. “Give me a call if you have any questions or need anything,” she told him.

“Thanks,” Patrick said, as both he and Delaney stood up from the table, walking out of the room to see Adam standing there.

“Hey, Adam,” Delaney smiled at him.

“Delaney,” Adam nodded as Delaney walked away, giving Patrick a small wave goodbye. “Dude!” Adam exclaimed, looking at Patrick with wide eyes.

“What?” Patrick asked, looking all around, trying to figure out what Adam was talking about.

“You got her number?” Adam questioned, snatching the business card out of his hand. “I give her all my charm, and I get turned down. You do nothing but constantly embarrass yourself, and you get her digits? How is that fair at all?”

“Maybe because she knows I’m not going to hit on her,” Patrick suggested. “In case you forgot, I’m the bachelor on the show, and she’s not a contestant. Therefore, I’m not interested in her.”

“How can you not be interested in her?” Adam questioned. “Are your eyes not working properly? She’s hot.”

“Yeah, she’s hot. But, she’s also only interested in me as part of the show. However, there are going to be twenty girls coming here tomorrow that are going to be all into me. Why should I care about one girl that’s never going to give me the time of day when I’m going to have twenty girls all over me?” Patrick asked.

“Well, then can you talk me up to her or something?” Adam asked.

“Adam Burish asking me for help with a girl?” Patrick asked. “What is this world coming to?” he joked. “You must be desperate.”

“Like I said, Delaney’s hot,” Adam repeated, and Patrick could only nod his head, unable to argue with that.
