Star Crossed

"So how are we doing this?" I asked looking up at Sidney.

We had the game all set up, the mat was out on the floor. It was a lot more difficult to set up then you would think it would be, Sidney complicating every little detail. It was either "Too wrinkled" or "Not straight enough". I didnt want to argue with him so I just nodded my head and agreed.

"I dont quite know" he said with a confused tone of voice as he scratched the back of his neck trying to figure out who would spin if we were both going to be spread out across the mat.

"Greattt" I sighed as I lay back onto the bed, hearing my phone buzzing from vibrating I picked it up and checked the caller ID. Home. Meaning Jake was calling to say goodnight and he probably wanted to talk to James too.

"Sid?" I asked standing up, him still looking at the back of the box the game came in. "Hm?" He hummed, not even looking up at me. "I need to go get something from my car, I'll be right back" I said lying through my teeth. He just nodded in response and waved goodbye half heartedly before I shut the door and took two steps across the hall and knocked on James's door.

He opened it slowly in his pajamas and squinted at me first then a smile came across his face, "Hey Han"

"Hi" I smiled back at him in his pajama pants and penguins t-shirt that he basically lives in. It was so unlike him to be in bed this early, normally he would be out looking for any girl that would have him. Maybe he was changing. "It's Jake" I continued pointing down at my phone not really sure what else to say.

"Great" He smiled wiping his eyes, as if he was trying to wipe away the tiredness. "Come on in" He said taking a step to the side so I could fit through the doorway. I took one last glance at my room just to make sure Sidney was still in there and hadn't heard or seen any of this happen.

I unlocked my phone and dialed my home phone. After 2 rings I heard Jake's cute little voice pick up, "Hello?" "Hey baby" I smiled. Talking to Jake was the one thing that could make me feel better on even the worst of my days.

"Mommy!" He basically yelled into the phone, James laughing. "How are you buddy?" I said smiling even bigger.

"I'm good" He said, "Did you watch Daddy's game?"

"No I didnt buddy" I said simply James eyeing my every move. "Mommy, he had a goal! Actually, he had two" He said happily.

"Did he really?" I said looking over to James who was smiling shyly.

"And I wore my new Jersey and everything!" Jake exclaimed happily.

"Do you want to tell Daddy that?" I laughed into the phone, James taking a step toward me.

"Sure" Jake said simply before saying his goodbyes to me.

"Hey bud" James said now turning to face out the window.

"Did you really?" He said as I heard Jake's high pitched voice coming through the other end of the phone. "That's my boy" James said laughing his loud, deep laugh. The laugh I fell in love with.

"You did?" James said happily. He was always so happy talking to Jake, and Jake was so happy talking to him.

"I scored them for you buddy." James said, "One for you, And one for mommy" James turned around then to face me and ran his hand down my shoulder to my hand and held it there.

I smiled slightly not really knowing what else to do while Jake continued to tell James about wearing his new jersey, school that day, and how grandma was doing watching him. They said their goodbyes later and James handed me back my phone.

"Thank you" He smiled. "No problem" I said looking down at the phone now in my hands when really I was just looking for anything but his eyes. I knew if I looked into his eyes I would get stuck spending more time here resulting in Sidney wondering where I went.

"Stay the night?" James asked simply but sweetly staring at me like an innocent little kid. I wanted so badly to say I would, but I knew I couldn't. "I can't" Was all I managed to say before I started walking towards the door. "What?" James said shocked by my answer. "I thought we were making up, you know, getting better" "We are" I said cupping my hands around his face as I leaned back against the door, "But I have work stuff, stuff I need to take care of" I said kissing him on the lips lightly. "Alright" He pouted. "Next time" I winked at him as I opened his door. "Im going to remember you saying that" He smiled at me one last time before closing the door.

I walked back over to my room, Pausing before I put the room key in and opened the door.

"Figure it out yet?" I asked Sidney as I came in the door. "I think so" He said looking up at me a confused look crossing his face. "What did you need to get?"

I didnt think that Sidney would actually ask me any questions meaning that I was not prepared for an answer. "Oh, just my phone" I said making up a lie.

"I thought you left with that?" He asked still confused. "No," I said thinking, "Maybe you saw the room key?"

Sidney nodded in response before explaining that he would just spin and play the game.

Next thing I knew I was sprawled across the floor, Sidney on top of me, both of us laughing. He rolled off of me still laughing before he looked at me seriously,

Sid leaned in and kissed me. The kiss soon became heated and I was rolling onto him. Next thing I knew, his tongue was pressing against my lip, looking for any way into my mouth. I gave him access without even thinking twice before he suddenly pulled away and just looked at me.

The next three words that came out of his mouth shocked me. Not even James would tell me those three words as seriously as Sid just did, and we had a baby together. I didnt know how to respond. Those three words were some of the most frighting, yet amazing words to ever hear from anyone. Those words:

I.Love.You
