Star Crossed

"Hello?" I heard a feminine voice answer the phone, Knowing immediately it was James's mom.

"Hi Mrs. Neal, its Savannah" I said trying to sound happy.

"Oh dear, theres no need to call me Mrs. Neal, We are family aren't we?" She laughed.

"Alright" I said fake laughing just to add to the fake happiness, "Is Jake up yet?"

I glanced over at the alarm clock to see that it was 8:20.

"Not yet, but I could wake him up for you" She said concern in her voice.

"Will you please?" I said smiling at the first piece of good news all day.

"Of course" I heard before a long period of silence, the next voice I heard my baby boy's. The only one that could cheer me up no matter what.

"Mommy?" I heard a faint whisper.

"Hey Jakie" I said sniffing back tears.

"Why are you sad mommy?" He asked yawning briefly.

"Im not baby" I said smiling at his thoughtfulness.

"Yes you are mommy I can tell" "Im fine honey," I said pausing,"How's grandma doing?"

"She's good, but I miss you" "I miss you too baby" I said smiling, now trying not to cry.

"When are you coming home?" He whined into the phone.

"Three more days," I smiled just thinking about holding him in my arms, just three more days to get through.

"I can't wait that long" He cried, "Oh yes you can," I smiled, "You'll be fine"

"Is daddy coming home too?" He asked still crying, wheezing from the tears.

"I don't know baby" I said not really wanting to think about James.

"Can I talk to him?" Jake asked sniffling.

"No, he's not here right now sunshine" I said smiling thinking of his tired little hands rubbing at his bright blue eyes waking himself up just like he did every morning.

"Oh" He said sadly.

"What bedtime story did Nanna read you last night?" I said trying to change the subject.

"Guess how much I love you" I could tell he was smiling by the tone in his voice, that was his favorite book.

"Really?" I said pretending to be excited.

"Yes" He chuckled, making my heart swell just by hearing his laugh.

"She doesn't read it as good as you mommy" He said simply.

"Well don't let her here that!" I laughed.

"I already told her" He said. "You're bold" I laughed, realizing just how much I missed him.

"No I'm not!" He said loudly.

"Alright, Alright" I laughed, a silence following that.

"Mommy," Jake said out of the blue, breaking the silence, "I love you" another pause, "Even if daddy doesn't I will"

"What do you mean?" I said not realizing where he would have gotten this idea.

"I love you" He said not even mentioning the part about James.

"What about Daddy?" I said curious.

"Grandma said Daddy has a new friend"

"What?" I said angry that anything about this would even be mentioned to Jake.

"That's was Grandma said" He said simply.

"Guess what mommy" Jake said,"Santa comes in 1 month"

"Really? No way" I said joking around with him.

"No really mommy" He said smiling.

"Alright Baby" I smiled thinking about him.

"Nana said its time for breakfast" he said sadly, I myself getting a little upset that I had to say goodbye to the most comforting thing I've ever known. "Bye mommy"

"Bye sunshine, Have a great day, I love you " I said blowing a kiss through the phone, him blowing one back before hanging up.

I sighed throwing my phone on the bed pacing back and forth thinking of what I needed to do next, trying to be rational.

There was only one thing. And it might be the hardest.

I walked out into the hallway and made my way to the correct door knocking softly, not wanting to wake up anyone else in the hotel.

His face slowly appeared in the doorway, a frown first, then a slight smile. He opened his mouth to say something but before he could I cut him off

"We need to talk"

"Alright" He said confused, opening the door wider to let me into the room. I checked to make sure his roommate was gone and when he was I turned to him now sitting on the bed. Just in his shorts and hat.

I sighed heavily before beginning,This was going to be awful.
