Reunited

Seventeen

Shea had been slaving in the kitchen since she had woken up. It was around nine and she still wasn't half way done with her "forgive me" breakfast for Sidney. Luckily he had yet to wake up, since he was woken up in the middle of the night because Shea had fallen asleep in the cab, but at least that way she didn't have to explain herself at the door, and then not be invited into the house. She was moving the eggs around in the pan when she heard the stairs creaking.

Shit, Shea thought, hoping she would be able to give him breakfast in bed. Shea just continued scrambling the eggs, pretending she didn't hear him. It wasn't long until she heard the shuffling of feet on the hardwood floor and then the sound of a chair being pulled out from under the counter. Shea took a deep breath before looking back behind her shoulder.

Sidney wasn't wearing a shirt, Shea didn't even think he was wearing one last night, but nevertheless she wouldn't complain about it. He looked exhausted, and Shea was stabbed with a pang of guilt, and then looking finally up to his eyes, Shea could see they were dark. She looked away to finish scrambling the eggs, still figuring out what she was going to say when the inevitable question was asked about why she totally ditched out on him. Shea put the eggs on a plate, next to pancakes, Shea had waffles too just incase, a fruit salad, hash browns and bacon. She grabbed utensils and the coffee mug and set it all in front of Sidney. He just kept looking at Shea, not even noticing the topnotch breakfast food sitting in front of him.

Shea sighed, "I am so so sorry Sidney, I--"

Sidney interrupted, "You don't have to apologize Shea i just want to know why you went to Boston instead of Pittsburgh from Toronto, and lied to me about it."

"I went to see my sister, I needed some uh some encouragement," Shea looked away, not being able to look into Sidney's piercing eyes anymore.

"Encouragement for what?" Shea still still wouldn't look at him, she could hear the anger bubbling in his voice, "Encouragement for moving in with me?" Shea just nodded her head, and of all things Sidney laughed, "Shea?" Shea turned eyes back towards Sidney, "You should of just come to me, I could of given you a ton of encouragement and tell you that I'm scared too, you aren't alone with your feelings."

"You're scared?" Shea bent her brows in confusion, "Why the hell are you scared? You're not the one picking up your whole life to move in with a guy that could get any girl, not only in just this city but in basically the whole country, and Canada!"

Sidney laughed, "I'm scared because I could just as easily screw this up and let some guy, probably one of my teammates, come in and steal you away, and that would be the end of me Shea. I couldn't handle seeing you in anyones arms other than my own, so yes I'm scared. Hell we're human, scared is an emotion we're all too familiar with."

Shea took a deep breath, realizing that Sidney was right. He was giving up just as many things as Shea was and looking into his eyes for the first time since he came downstairs, Shea could see that it wasn't anger in his eyes, but instead it was fear. Fear that he could lose Shea. She exhaled the breath she had forgotten she was holding and leaned into Sidney, "I'm sorry."

"Just talk to me next time, don't fly to another city, you scared the shit out of me," Sidney wrapped his arms around Shea, pulling her even closer. She smiled and nodded her head.

"Wait a minute, I never told you I went to Boston how did you know that?"

Sidney coughed, "I uh um may have asked the information desk to uh look where you were." Sidney closed his eyes, not wanting to see the look on Shea's face. Shea cackled, the most unflattering laugh Sidney had ever come out of that pipsqueak of a body. He opened his eyes to see her face red, and tears coming out of her eyes. "Don't laugh I was really worried."

"No I know it's just that it's kind of against the rules to tell a person that isn't related to the passenger in question where the mentioned passenger is, like really against the rules Sid." Sidney looked mortified, the TSA Agent had practically put his job on the line just because Sidney was having a Shea crisis. Shea kept laughing, so hard she had to fall to the floor just to get herself together, and yet even then she couldn't stop. Sidney just stabbed his eggs with his fork, hoping she would understand that this was no laughing matter.

Shea picked herself off the ground of Sidney's kitchen and said, "I love you Sid, you know that?"

"Yeah I had a feeling."

------------

"So Sidney we're just going to rip the bandaid off about the whole Brooke thing, it's all we're going to talk about, no hockey, just how you AND Brooke decided this was the best thing," Dan Potash said sitting across from Sidney. Sidney just nodded his head in understanding.

"Alright we are here with Sidney Crosby on Root Sports, now Sidney we understand that you had a pretty eventful last couple of weeks, can you tell us about them?"

"Well Dan as most of Pittsburgh knows I was engaged to be married to my girlfriend Brooke Martin and the wedding date was set for just last weekend, but unfortunately the wedding did not happen."

Dan raised his eyebrows, as if he hadn't heard about it yet, "And why is that?"

Sidney exhaled, already annoyed with the interview and the subject, "Brooke and I decided that it would be best to not go through with the wedding, for personal reasons. It is very unfortunate she's an amazing girl and a lovely girlfriend, but uh we had too much of a difference between us and we just decided to go our separate ways."

Dan nodded his head before giving Sidney a look that said "I have to ask this question, don't get mad," Sidney nodded his head in approval, "Sidney we have to ask this question, was there any foul play involved?"

Sidney shook his head, "Absolutely not. We loved each other and we were only with each other the whole time during our relationship, the decision to call off the wedding was very personal to us and I feel bad to even put her in the situation of calling off the wedding, especially the day of the wedding, but uh when it came to her I wanted to be able to put her first and I just wasn't able to do that."

"Well alright Sidney we appreciate you discussing the matter with us and we'll see tomorrow to talk about everybody's favorite subject: Hockey Night in Pittsburgh!!!"

Sidney laughed shaking Dan's hand, "Thank you Dan, we'll see you tomorrow!"

The cameras stopped rolling and Sidney shook the hand of everyone else in the room, thanking them for doing this with him, especially since they didn't have to. He walked out of the room, loosening his tie, after feeling very constricted throughout the interview.

He had gotten a text before the interview saying that Mario wanted to talk to him, and even though Mario was his mentor, he was scared that he would say something along the line of being disappointed in him.

Sidney walked through the Consol Energy building until he reached Mario's office, knocking twice before hearing Mario tell him to enter.

"Hey Sid, thanks for dropping by."

Sidney just nodded his head, "Hey Mario, what can I do for ya?"

Mario finished shuffling files on his desk before giving his full attention to Sidney, "I wanted to talk about Shea."

"Look Mario--"

Mario didn't let him finish, "No you look Sidney. I'm not going to lie what you did was stupid and reckless and completely unlike you. And I just wanted to say," Mario got up from his desk and walked over to where Sidney was sitting, stretching out his hand towards him, "It happens to the best of us."

Sidney looked at the hand as if it were the plague, "Mario I don't understand." Marion just took Sidney's hand in his own, shaking it wildly.

"Sidney I'm so proud of you! That is what I'm trying to get at, you had to be an adult when you just a child and I hated to see that. Now you making mistakes should be a huge deal to me and I should be super upset but instead I'm happy. I'm happy that you're living, that you're happy."

Sidney just looked at Mario, eyes wide, "Am I being pranked?"

Mario chuckled, "Sidney I know this is super weird, but all you need to know is that I'm not mad that you ditched Brooke to be with Shea, I'm incredibly happy for you." Sidney just shook his head, "And you are free to leave."

Sidney got up looking back at Mario once more, and then all around his office, making sure there was no hidden camera. He just shook his head before starting to walk out the door.

"Oh and Sid," Sidney turned back, "Is she worth it?"

Sidney looked at his mentor and second father, he had been expecting that question after a huge rant about how Sidney was making a huge mistake, not a rant about how happy Mario was about the whole situation.

Sidney smiled, "More than you'll ever know."
