Reunited

Four

Shea didn't know how long she had been in the bathroom for. One minute? Five minutes? It seemed like one second when she heard a knock behind her back. She thought it was Sidney, but he knew better than to come find her when it had been him who freaked her out.

"Shea it's us open up."

Shea knew her brothers had seen her run from where she was standing in the house to the bathroom. She guessed they looked at what she was looking at before she ran and understood. She gave a sigh of relief and stood up to open the door. Behind it were, as she guessed her brothers, but they looked upset and sad. She didn't quite understand why they would look that way since it was her that had to see someone she didn't want to see.

Her brothers looked at each other before Jason said, "We're going home...now." Shea looked between her brothers for the underlying cause of the sudden rush to go home. She was startled and didn't know which questions to ask. There were so many.

"Why?"

"This party, it's uh not exactly the reason you think it's for.." Mike said, nervously scratching the back of his neck, "I don't even think the Crosby's knew it was for this, even Sidney."

Shea didn't understand. They were making her nauseous, she needed to sit down again but she knew wouldn't get back up if she went back to the ground.

Getting frustrated Shea half yelled, "Will one of you tell me what's going on?!" But yet again her brothers just looked at her, then each other. Shea crossed her arms over her chest, popped one hip out and stared.

Finally Jason gave in, "She's here." Shea was confused. Who were they talking about? She didn’t have any enemies from high school and she had been friends with lots of people so she didn’t know who had come that would rattle her brothers.. then it clicked.

Sidney's fiancé was here.

-------

Sidney didn't have time to chase after Shea before someone cupped their hands around his eyes from behind. Slightly annoyed and frustrated, Sidney pulled the hands off and quickly swiveled around, but he wasn't expecting to see her.

"Surprise!" Sidney couldn't respond before her lips were pressed to his. He hadn't expected his fiancé to know where he lived, much less show up at his childhood home.

When she finally stopped kissing him Sidney said, "Brooke, I didn't know you were coming?"

"Well duh silly! That's what is a surprise is!"

Sidney knew this was going to be bad. Brooke had yet to meet his family and now there were seventy different people staring at them together. She smiled around at everybody, and Sidney knew she was trying to impress people. But he stopped thinking about how pissed off his mom was gonna be that the fiancé she wasn't very approving of had just showed up unannounced and now he had to deal with his old girlfriend in the bathroom. Sidney wanted desperately to run to bathroom and quickly take Shea to her house. He didn't want to be here when Brooke met his family and he definitely didn't want Shea to have to meet Brooke.

But Sidney would not get his wish.

"Sidney, who's this?"

Sidney turned around to see his mom, fake smiling, with her devil eyes that stared right through his soul. He had only seen that look a couple times before and each time, he lost a little piece of masculinity with it. Brooke stepped up and hugged his mom. Now Sidney was really in for a yelling.

"I'm Brooke!!! It's so lovely to meet you!"

Trina looked from her son to the woman that Sidney had decided to put a ring on it. She was pissed off. She had already been upset that Sidney just randomly proposed to a girl he had only been dating for about a year, but now that the girl who Trina wanted Sidney to marry was in the bathroom, she was about five seconds away from kicking Brooke out of her house and party and telling Sidney to go reconcile with Shea.

Brooke back off of Trina to see Troy walking out of the house, closing the screen door behind him. The look on his face showed more disapproval than Trina’s. Troy had never been one for unannounced things, and both the proposal and Brooke’s surprise were unannounced.

Sidney looked around at everybody else there. The hadn’t caused a huge scene, or everybody had slowly turned back around realizing that something was about to happen, and nobody really wanted to witness it. Whether it was a fight between Brooke and Trina or a murdering of Sidney they didn’t know. But Sidney could see the occasional glances his way, each person acting as though the family drama was like a movie, everybody getting the popcorn ready.

“Let’s go inside shall we? That way we can get acquainted properly,” Troy said calmly leading Brooke towards the house. She obliged, Trina following after them and then finally Sidney. He walked slowly, dreading the speech he was going to get from his parents when Taylor would distract Brooke. He was also dreading the fact that Shea could come out of the bathroom at any moment, and he didn’t exactly want to be there when she did.

The four of them walked into the house, and then to the kitchen where Taylor was helping Shea’s parents cook for the buffet that was going to happen at any minute. Taylor glanced confusingly at Sidney, before seeing the ring on her finger and jump in her step. She almost choked up her water when she looked at her parents. Sidney was in for a real beating.

“Who’s this?” Shea’s mom asked pointing towards Brooke with a wooden spoon. Trina walked up near Elizabeth and made sure to put a hand near her back for when somebody said the word fiancé.

Brooke looked at Sidney expectantly, as if to see are you going to tell these people or am I?

Sidney looked to Elizabeth and Dan before saying, “She’s my fiancé..”

Elizabeth had lean into Trina and Dan had to try and not plunder Sidney to death in that moment. Sidney heard spitting and he turned to see Jason looking at the beer Mike had just spat out, both having the look everybody currently had in the room, except Brooke. She was smiling and bringing her hand out towards Elizabeth and Dan.

“Um wow, it’s..um.. it’s lovely to meet you dear,” Elizabeth said, quickly pretending she didn’t see the extended hand. Dan grabbed the hand and shook it roughly, nodding his head. It was taking everything in Sidney not to go over to knife drawer right then and there and gut himself, but he knew everybody in the room wanted to do it for him so he thought it’d be best to wait.

It had become eerily quiet, nobody quite knowing the appropriate thing to say in the moment. It was Trina he sparked up a conversation with Brooke, not wanting to be noticeably rude, but Brooke was daft and had no idea that nobody wanted her there in that moment.

While Trina, Troy and Dan were talking to Brooke, Elizabeth took the opportunity to look at her sons and say, “How about you guys go get your sister, wherever she is, and bring her home. Now.”

The guys nodded their heads, quickly getting off their stools and rush to the bathroom and bring Shea out the back door. Elizabeth looked back towards the group to see Sidney staring at her. She could see the pain and guilt in his eyes; it looked like he was trying so hard not to cry.

Elizabeth felt for him. He left Pittsburgh, leaving Shea behind. Now four years later he gets engaged to a girl he’s only known for a year and he can’t even fake being happy about it. Elizabeth didn’t know if he had ever been happy with this girl, he probably was in Pittsburgh. If there was one thing she knew about Sidney it’s that he didn’t do anything irrational. Something had to of happened that made Sidney go from loving this girl enough to want to be with her for the rest of his life, to not even wanting to be in the same room with her.

And Elizabeth guessed that it was her daughter.

--------

Shea walked out of the bathroom and into the hallway. Her brothers were begging her to let them bring her home. But Shea was not going to shy away from the event being held. Sidney had left and hadn't come back for her. She was over him, or at least that's what she kept telling herself anyway. So she kept walking until she reached the living room area. She could hear voices coming from the kitchen, it was Trina and an unfamiliar voice talking about the house and how it was weird to see where Sidney grew up.

Shea walked towards the corner of the living room and the kitchen and could see her. She was pretty. Blonde hair a little bit longer than shoulder length. Tan, and wearing a yellow dress that showed off how fit her body was. Shea grew increasingly jealous with each look she took. No wonder Sidney had fallen in love with her, Shea was falling in love with her! Obviously not romantically, but more like how girls had woman crushes on Blake Lively.

Laughing brought Shea back into reality. She finally got the courage to look over at Sidney. He had his arms crossed over his chest, exposing his bulging arm muscles. He was laughing too, but it wasn't the laugh she was used to. It was one of those laughs people did when they didn't find what the other person said to be funny, Shea was an expert in that laugh.

"Shea?"

Shea stopped looking at Sidney to see everybody in the room looking at her. Her brothers had somehow snuck up behind her, and they were pushing her into the room. She couldn't embarrass herself in front of Sidney's fiancé. She had to hold her head high and make sure that Sidney knew what he was missing. She walked into the kitchen with a smile on her face and slowed once she reached the counter. Sidney had been looking at her the whole time, gaging her reaction to seeing Brooke.

"Hi, you must be the fiancé, I'm Shea."

Brooke looked over at Sidney, the look that said she's Shea? Sidney just avoided Brooke's gaze by looking at the death glare Trina and Elizabeth were giving him at the moment. Brooke looked away from Sidney back at Shea, sizing her up. She was pretty, very pretty. But she wasn't the barbi doll pretty everybody was these days, it was rare to find somebody who looked so naturally pretty. Brooke could see Shea wasn't even wearing a lick of makeup, and yet she looked fantastic in the black dress she was sporting. No wonder Sidney wanted to come home, and so quickly.

But Brooke was the one with the ring so she decided to flaunt it. She brought up her left hand and brought it up to Shea's hand. But everybody stopped in their tracks before they could even shake hands.

"Oh my god is that…" Mike couldn't even finish his sentence before Jason was elbowing him in the stomach.

"Sidney.." Trina walked over near her son, grabbing a knife on the way.

"Ok ok ok Trina put the knife down," Elizabeth said reaching for the knife that Trina wanted to use against her son. Dan and Troy were shaking their heads, while Jason and Mike balled up their fists getting ready for a fight.

"Holy fucking shit Sidney are you kidding me?" Taylor said stomping out the room with the last of plate of food for the buffet. The whole crowd outside had no idea what had been going on in the kitchen, but everyone was trying so incredibly hard not to first kill Sidney, and second run Brooke out of Cole Harbour, even out of Canada.

But Shea's reaction was the most priceless as she stood there, Brooke's hand in her own, with a tear running down her cheek. Staring down at the ring that had once been on her left hand finger.
