Ride With Me

Arabella walked through the corridors trying to find her father; she had called out to him many times but never got a response. She knew he was home, she just didn’t know where he was exactly, she climbed the staircase and made her way over to his room.
“Hello Arabella.” Scarlett Gardiner greeted as she walked out of her father’s room, she smiled at her and greeted her with a simple hello before walking into her father’s room.
She crossed her arms over her chest as she eyed her father resting in bed, “What is King Gardiner’s daughter doing here?” She asked.
“Air, don’t ask questions you already know the answers to.” Jon snapped, he sat up in his bed and got dressed.
Arabella rolled her eyes at her father; his little affair with the princess of Arille wasn’t a secret in this household, “She’s practically the same age as Faelyn and I.”She laughed.
“We’re both adults, and I don’t need my daughter to tell me who to be with, now if you’ll excuse me I have a kingdom to run.” He pushed passed her and entered the long empty corridors.
“Go check on Faelyn, I don’t trust her alone with the new stable boy.” Jonathan called out; Arabella groaned and stomped down the corridor and towards the stables.
She held up her dress as she walked, she spotted her sister sat on top of the horse their father had bought her for her birthday. Faelyn never did have much interest in horses that was until their father hired a new stable boy, she conveniently rides her horse every time he’s here.
Faelyn hopped off her horse as her sister approached, “Air, what are you doing here?” She smiled sweetly, Arabella knew better than to bother her when she was with Jeff.
“Jeffrey do you mind giving me and my sister some privacy?” Arabella asked, Jeff nodded and walked into the stables to check on the other horses, “He’s cute, I can see why you like him.” She teased.
“I don’t like him!” She playfully shoved her sister, “It’s not like there’s any other guys around here to date.” Faelyn scoffed.
“Well there are King Jake’s sons, I can get Prince Bennett since I am the oldest, and you can have Prince Kane.” Arabella explained.
The princes of Arille were the type of men every woman on the planet wanted to date, there was Prince Bennett the eldest son, he was breathtaking, he got his blue eyes from his father and blonde hair from both his father and his mother.
Then there was Prince Kane, he wasn’t as important to others as Beau was because he wasn’t next in line to be King. Nonetheless he was still handsome, his strawberry blonde hair and big blue eyes made all the girls swoon.
Arabella had only had the chance to meet Prince Kane once; Patrick wasn’t as outgoing and forward as his half brother or sister, he isolated himself after his mother’s death and only left his palace when he was forced to.
“Yeah and father can have Princess Scarlett.” Faelyn joked, Arabella glared at her sister, she wasn’t amused by her jokes.
Faelyn didn’t care about what her father was doing behind closed doors but Arabella did, she didn’t want her father to be with anyone, and if that meant he had to spend the rest of his life alone then so be it. The only person her father should be with is her mother, but her mother was no longer in the picture and now he’s trying to find someone new.
She didn’t want her father to have the same reputation that King Gardiner had, Jake was known for getting around, he had three children with three different women. Jake had three wives, he had an affair with his current wife Juliana when he was married to Mrs. Bennett, she left him after finding out about his cheating ways and the fact that he had a daughter, he later moved on to Donna Kane. Donna had passed away during the birth of Patrick, leaving Jake to take care of both his sons on his own; Jake had later rekindled his love with Juliana and his daughter Scarlett.
“Don’t ever say that again,” Arabella hissed, “She’ll never compare to mom.”
“Mom has been dead for 15 years Air, he’s finally moved on and found someone he wants to be with. Can’t you just be happy for him?” Faelyn asked, this wasn’t like Arabella she never raised her voice, she never picked fights, she was always cool, calm and collective, what was going on with her?
“No I can’t be happy for him!” She snapped, and with that she grabbed her dress lifting it up and began walking away.
“Wait!” Faelyn called out, Arabella stopped waiting to hear what she had to say, “I’m going to be riding into Neilath tomorrow with Jeff, would you like to come?”
“Sure.” She smiled, and just like that she was back to the Arabella everyone knew and loved, she grabbed her dress and began skipping towards the palace.

“Wake up!” Faelyn screeched as she jumped onto her sister’s bed and on top of her, Arabella groaned and pushed her off of her, Faelyn screamed as she fell back, she held out her arms desperately trying to grab something to keep her from falling.
She fell onto her back as she hit the floor; she rolled over holding her legs to her chest in fetal position as she winced in pain. Arabella quickly got up and ran to her side to make sure she was okay, Jonathan ran through the open door to find his daughters on the floor.
“What happened?” Jon asked as he walked over to Faelyn and couched down in front of her.
“She fell off my bed and hit her back.” Arabella explained as she watched her dad try to calm down Faelyn who was in pain from the fall.
“Did she fall or did you push her?” He hissed as he rubbed her back trying to sooth the pain, he held his daughter close to his chest just like he used to when she was a little.
“It was an accident!” She shouted, her father had always blamed her if something happened to Faelyn she was his perfect little girl and if anything were to happen to her it’d be Arabella’s fault for not being there to protect her.
“Daddy I’m fine,” She reassured, “It wasn’t Arabella’s fault, I should have been more careful.” She smiled at her older sister; they were always there for each other.
Jonathan stood up and helped his daughter up from the floor, “You two better get ready, Jeffrey is waiting for you at the stables.” He pulled both his daughters into a hug and kissed their foreheads, “Be careful.”
“We always are.” Faelyn reassured, Faelyn walked her father out of the room giving Arabella some privacy to change.
“Promise me you two will return in one piece.” Jon spoke as they were far enough from Arabella’s room.
“Daddy, we’re going to Neilath not to war, we’ll be fine.” She reassured, her father was always so protective, he almost had a conniption the first time Faelyn had hurt herself.
“Arabella is so reckless sometimes, be careful with the horses and don’t let her wander off. I’m trusting you two on your own, don’t make me regret this.” He warned.
“You won’t.” She lifted herself onto her toes and kissed his cheek before running off to her room to get her things for today’s trip.
As the sisters walked up the paths to the stables they noticed that Jeff was not alone, “Who is that?” Arabella asked, she eyed him carefully, he was tall, built, and handsome, he’d give most men in this kingdom a run for their money.
“I don’t know but let’s find out,” Faelyn walked straight up to them greeting Jeff and his friend, “Hello, I’m Faelyn, and this is my sister Arabella and you are?” She introduced.
“I’m Sidney; it is truly a pleasure to meet you both.” He bowed in front of them respecting the princess of Orion.
“Sidney, yes I should have known Jeff speaks so highly of you, I was hoping to meet you one day.” She smiled sweetly, Arabella stood behind her sister eying Sidney, something about him was captivating, she felt like she was in a trance, and she just couldn’t look away.
Jeff clapped his hands together breaking the silence, “Shall we get going?” He asked, Faelyn nodded her head; she attached her things to her horses saddle before hopping on.
Arabella cleared her throat getting everyones attention, they had all mounted their horses except for her; “I don’t know how to ride a horse.” She admitted shyly.
Sidney lent down and extended a hand to her, “You can ride with me.” He offered, Arabella smiled and took his hand, he helped her onto the horse, and she wrapped her arms around his waist as she sat behind him.
“Let’s go.” Faelyn called out.
Arabella jumped as the horses took off, she held onto Sid’s waist tightly terrified of falling off, he let out a small laugh as he noticed her reaction; she rested her head against his back as her cheeks began to burn.
“Just relax; you’ll be fine as long as you’re with me.” He reassured.
