The Road Back to Your Heart

I Just Want to Make Her Proud

Game one had ended exactly the way Eric had wanted, with a win. He hadn’t stopped smiling since he got off the ice and went into the locker room not only because they had come back to win the game but also because he saw the look on Elle’s face when they won. It gave him hope that she still loved him. He felt someone hug him from behind and turned around and saw his mom standing behind him.

“I’m so proud of you baby,” His mom said with a smile.

Eric smiled and hugged his mom back, “Thanks mom.”

The hug was broken only for Eric to be hugged by the rest of his family, once all the hugs were done; he noticed one person was missing. His eyes searched through the crowds trying to find her and when he did, he felt like a truck hit him. She was talking to Cam and not only that she was laughing at what Cam was saying. He quickly excused himself from his family and walked over to where Cam and Elle stood talking.

“What’s so funny?” Eric asked giving Cam a look.

Elle looked up at him with a small smile, “Oh, Cam was just telling me how much you still suck at video games.”

“I do not suck at video games and the both of you know that very well,” He said sending Cam a glare before looking at Elle. “I used to whip your ass at video games, Elle, don’t forget that.”

She giggled, “I remember you and your freak brothers cheating all the time.”

“We did not cheat,” Eric said pulling her closer to him tickling her lightly.

Elle squirmed away from him a little, “Eric Craig, stop that right now.”

“Eric, are you going to come out with us tonight?” Cam asked breaking up the moment between the two of them. “You can always bring this pretty little thing with you.”

Elle blushed, “Stop hitting on me you, big lug, and don’t think I don’t know about your girlfriend.”

“You know about Cody?” Cam asked looking at Eric, who was laughing lightly at his friend’s expense.

She nodded, “Yea, she came up to me during the game, apparently she knows all about me.”

“Well, that’s because Eric doesn’t shut up about you,” Cam said grinning like a fool.

A blush formed on Elle’s cheeks, “I’m sure that’s not true.”

“Oh, it’s very true,” Cam said looking at Eric who was sending him an intense glare. “I thought he had made you up until his mom said something about you. I couldn’t believe someone could be that stupid to let the love of their life slip through their fingers I’d never do that with Cody.”

Elle bit her lip, “Well, obviously I’m real and if Eric’s up for it, I’ll go out with you guys. We can bring Whit, Marc and Jordan too.”

“I don’t know,” Eric said looking at Cam. “It probably isn’t a good idea to go out tonight.”

Cam rolled his eyes, “Come on Staal live a little, we just won game one of the Stanley Cup Finals, we deserve to celebrate a little.”

“Yea, Eric come on,” Elle said giggling at him. “It’s just one night.”

Eric looked down at Elle who was looking up at him with a smile, “Fine.”

“Great,” She said with a big grin. “I’m going to grab Whit and get changed, see you at the bar, big guy.”

As she turned to leave, Eric grabbed her arm and pulled her into a hug, which caused Elle to tense at first but slowly she melted into his arms, “I’m glad you’re here, Elle. I missed you.”

“I missed you too, Eric,” She mumbled into his chest. “Just give me time, please.”

He pulled her chin up making her look at him, blue-green eyes met caramel brown eyes in an intense stare, “I’ll give you all the time you need. You’re it for me, Elle. I’m not letting you go, I’ll wait for you.”

Elle smiled and kissed his cheek, “Great job tonight, Eric. I’m so proud of you.”

“I’ll let you go get ready,” Eric said with a smile while trying to ignore the feelings her last statement cause to surge within him. “Jordan and Marc know where to go, so I’ll see you there.”

She smiled and walked out of the locker room with Whit on her heels. Eric had never been happier in his life than he was at that moment. He knew that there was a lot that still had to be settled between the two of them but she was proud of him, and that was all he needed right now.
