SHAILENE'S POV
*1 week later*
"no no no ahh! Make It stop!" I squeal, laughing. James and I are snowboarding and even though I've been a million times, I slip.
"Hey, hey. I thought you said you've been snowboarding before" James says grabbing my waist to steady me.
"Oh I have. I just wanted a reason to be so close to you." I smirk. "Race you down the hill!" I yell.
I jump a little to get myself started and I bend me knees. We swerve in and out through the people. Some don't mind but some get a little mad at us. By the time were at the bottom, we're panting and laughing.
"So... I won." I smile.
james looks at me like I'm insane. "Are you CRAZY!" He laughs.
"you know nothing." I point out lifting my goggles.
"Well what I know is that our time is up. Lets go check in." James says and we take our boards off.
After we check in, I hop into his car and pull out my phone.
"What do you want for dinner?" James asks pulling out of the parking lot.
"Mmmm.... Pizza and wings." I smile.
"Pizza and wings. Alright" James says.
My phone says I have over 10 missed calls, all from the same number.
"One sec I need to make a call" I say to James and he nods.
I dial the number and somebody picks up on the second ring.
"Hi, is this Shailene Cooper?" A voice asks.
"Yea. May I ask who's speaking?" I respond.
"Well yes. This is doctor Lidia Farlene from East York General Hospital. We believe we have your friend here Katherine Elling?" The doctor says.
Suddenly I'm more alert. "What's wrong with Kate?"
"She was in a car accident and she's in critical condition. We've called at her request. She wants you to see her. "
"Oh my god. Ill be there." I hang up the phone.
"James can food wait?" I ask
"why?" He questions.
"Kate's in the hospital"
"then of course it can wait." He says stepping on the gas

"ah ms cooper, Katherine is right here." A doctor says. I thank him as James and I walk in.
"Hi Katie" I croak.
"Hay Shailene" she whispers.
I smile and hold her hand. "Can I tell you something?" She asks.
I nod. The beeps are too slow and her voice is too low when she starts talking. "Shailene ill love you forever. You'll always be my best friend. Please just remember all the good times and go do fun stuff even if I'm not there. Youll always be my sun and moon and stars. Forever and always" her head sinks back onto the pillow and the beeps stop.
"No. No no no. Kate wake up." My eyes are watering. "Katherine Amanda Elling get up. Get up and laugh at me for being so gullible. Lets go." James has an arm around me now. "KATHERINE GET YOUR ASS UP AND GO TO A PARTY OR LET'S GO SHOPPING OR SOMETHING." By this point I've broken down into tears. "I love you too Kate." I spin around into James's chest and cry. When I look up at him I see a tear has escaped his eye too. But we stand there crying for a long time
