JAMES'S POV
Kate's funeral was hard.
Elysha, Kate's sister was on a school trip in Mexico and she couldn't fly in. Shailenes parents were on vacation and shay didn't bother telling them. Kade was in France for a champions leafue game. Kate's parents... Parent, actually came (her dad died when she was seven), but she didn't stay long. She couldn't take it.
All the guys came. Ty and Phil and jay and jake ad mo. Everyone that is except for Joffrey and Nikolai. It was kinda weird.
Some of the guys stayed. I stayed. Naz stayed. Jake stayed.
But The worst part for me was Shailene. She didn't cry. She barley even flinched. She stood like a statue during the ceremony and she barley looked like she herself was alive during the burial.
Afterwards when she had to give a speech on Kate, she broke down.
"Well.... I guess you all knew Kate as somebody different. Some of you might of known her as family. Maybe you knew her as someone you never really liked, but we all know that's impossible. Maybe she was someone you barley knew but then again maybe she was someone you strived to be like every day." Shailene coughed at this point but kept it together. "To me, she was my best friend. My closest companion. The one person I could truly trust and the only person who trusted me. She was an amazing person. I remember how once we were trying to make an action movie and we tried flipping off the wall." Shailene let out a sob but covered it up with a laugh. "We always did stupid stuff like that. But stupid things make the best memories. Kate was my sun and my moon and my stars. She was the reason I woke up in the morning and what helped me through tough nights. She was always there for me, in my best moments or darkest hours. I hope she thought the same of me." Shailene started to cry. "Kate I never got to say a true goodbye. And I don't think I will. Because I know well see each other again. I love you Katie." She cried as She ran off the stage.
Now I'm back at my place with her and were watching the Toronto raptors game. At her request by the way.
"Fucking idiot" she mumbles at the TV when Lowry misses a 3- Pointer.
I have my arm around her and she's leaning in on my chest. To be honest I don't know what our relationship status is right now. I want to ask. I really do. But I can't. Not now anyways.
"James do you like basketball?" She asks.
"It's alright." I answer.
"There's a jays game on. We could watch that instead if you want."
I nod and go up a couple of channels to the jays game.
Brett Lawrie is at bat with a full count and the bases lodes. We're down by 1 and its the bottom of the ninth and we have one out. This is the most intense moment.
Kate sits up, like pin straight. "C'mon Brett. C'mon" she mumbles. I love how she gets so into all the sports.
Lawrie hits the ball and it goes up. Up. Up. Up and out. Home run.
The crownd at the Rogers centre goes insane as Lawrie and the others make their way into the dugout.
"that's how you close a game." Shailene says. Suddenly her phone rings.
"Hello?..... Hmmm.... No, car accident.....no I don't..... Really?....no....thanks for the call"
"what was that?" I ask.
"One of the police investigators. They said Kate's car accident wasn't.. Well an accident. Someone messed up the engine and the steering wheel. So someone killed her. "
i sit there frozen.
Who would do that?
then, the answer hits me.
