A Favor for a Friend

Chapter 20

I watched the game on the edge of my seat. It was against the Sharks. It was tied 3-3. It was giving me anxiety. Just one more goal could make or break the game for them. One single goal.

As the time ticked down on the clock my anxiety grew. I watched the puck fly across the ice. The suspense was killing me. I watched as one of their players took control of the puck and readied himself for a shot. He had an almost perfect slap shot right between Glass and Sutter. Fleury stopped it thankfully.

They resumed play and the Sharks took the puck. I held my breath as they prepared for another shot. It was a pretty powerful slap shot. Suddenly the game stopped. I looked over to where the puck went..... Straight into Olli's jaw. He covered where it hit with his hand. The fans were all quiet except the ones who felt the need to boo the Sharks.

He got up quickly and skated off. I was having a slight panic attack now. What if he broke it like Sid had?! That could ruin the rest of his first season! I wasn't even completely sure it his his jaw, it could have been his eye or anything.

I didn't know what to do. Sidney glanced at me and motioned for me to go wait outside the locker room. I gave one quick nodded and got up, taking the steps two at a time and sprinting to the other end of the arena.

James must gave gone with him because I got a text from him. How he got my number? I will probably never know. 'Don't worry too much. It isn't broken.' I read off the screen.

I sighed in relief but that didn't mean I wasn't worried anymore. It was still terrifying. I made my way over finally reaching the where I was going to meet him. James walked out.

"The kid is lucky, just some bruising." He said.

"Nothing else?" I said just to hear it again and hopefully make me feel better.

"Nothing else. He is out for the rest of the game though." He said.

"Ok, thanks for letting me know." I said.

"No problem, he knows you are out here. He will be out as soon as they are done with whatever they have to do. I have to go though. See you later." He turned quickly and disappeared back into the locker room.

I leaned against the wall and let out a deep breath. I slid down the wall and sat on the floor. I couldn't believe what happened, the adrenaline was a lot for me.

I sat there a good half an hour before he came out. Every second made me more nervous. "Are you ok?!" I jumped up as soon as the door opened.

He nodded, obviously to avoid talking.

"How bad does it hurt on a scale of one to ten?" I asked leaning to me left to look at the already forming bruise.

He thought for a minute. He held up seven fingers.

I have him a sympathetic look. Poor Olli. "Can you talk or is it just because it just hurts?" I asked biting my lip.

"It just hurts a little." He said, he was lying. It hurt a lot.

"Do you want me to get you anything?" I asked. I had always been a bit over board when it came to the first aid type of stuff.

"Actually some ice would be great." He said forcefully, trying to ignore the pain.

I nodded and quickly ran off to find a vendor. It didn't take long, they were everywhere. I pushed through the line, ignoring the rude comments I got for doing it. I reached the front finally. "Can I get a bag or ice or something?" I asked quickly.

"All we have are cups." The vendor replied.

"Ok, fine, anything. Just hurry." I said impatiently.

The man mumbled to himself and went to get me a cup of ice. He came back a few seconds later.

"Thank you!" I said throwing a few dollars on the counter and running off back to Olli.

I handed him the cup. "Sorry about the wait. That was the best I could do." I panted.

He shrugged and held the plastic cup on his jaw. "Thanks." He said, "I think I'm going to go home now..... Do you, um, mind coming with me?" He said trying to avoid eye contact.

"Of course, I will shoot Sid a text. I'm sure he won't mind." I said pulling out my phone.

"Thanks...... again..." He said.

"I guess I will have to go buy ice cream now too oops." I said quickly.

"Oops." He smirked in return.
