Public Relations

I knew the team would be here for their first skate before training camp starts next week. I got the first couple weeks schedule with my welcome to the Penguins organization package. I followed Ray and Jennifer through double doors with the Penguins crest on it. I was still a bit nervous to meet the team, but I shook it off as much as possible. We walked into a large circular room with benches running around the left half. The players were in their assigned stalls listening to the coaching staff talk in the middle of the room. I caught Sidney's eye from across the room. He smiled at me. I smiled back. A couple of the guys looked at me, but I tried to focus on what the coach was saying.
"Training camp is starting in a couple days. We will have some new guys in here trying out for the team and its all of your jobs to help make the new guys feel welcome." Coach said. Ray walked over to where coach was standing. They shook hands before Ray turned to the team.
"Thanks Dan." Ray said. "As you all know Jennifer is going to be leaving us for a bit to have her baby. For months now we have been looking for someone who is able to take her place while she is gone. I think we have found someone who is capable of handling you guys."
Ray glances in the direction of a guy sitting on the side closest to me. A grin comes over his face. He's good looking. With bright blue eyes and dark brow hair gelled up. He has a soft face. I can see a bit of ginger stubble growing on his chin. He glances at me and I drop my eyes to the floor feeling my cheeks turn red.
"Here's our newest PR Lady, Alexandra Davis." Ray says gesturing toward me. I take a deep breath and step out into the middle of the room. "Tell us a little bit about yourself."
"I'm Alexandra, but you guys can call me Alex." I start. "I was born and raised in Western Canada. I've lived in Vancouver my entire life, I went to UBC to study PR. During my studies I took an internship with the Vancouver Canucks. I've worked with hockey players and I am excited work with all of you."
I look around the room seeing some of the guys glancing nervously at Jennifer and others looking a little upset. I tried to shake it off but I couldn't help the feeling that the team wasn't happy I'm here.
"Thank you." Ray said before turning back to the team. "Dan."
Ray gave Dan the floor back and guided me back over to Jennifer. The three of us left the dressing room.
"Jennifer please take Alex over to get her pass now please." Ray said. "Then you guys can finish up a bit of the work for today."
"Sure." Jennifer said linking arms with me and leading me back through the big doors to the hallway. We walked a couple doors down to a door labeled media room. Jennifer held the door for me before following me in.
"Jeff." Jennifer called out. A male came out of the far door. He was tall and slender with thick glasses.
"Hey Jenny." Jeff said.
"This is Alex." Jennifer said gesturing to me. I smiled.
"Nice to meet you." He said.
"Same here." I said.
"We need a pass for Alex." Jennifer said.
"Sure, this way." Jeff said. We walked into a room that had a camera set up in the middle of the room. There is a wall covered with a grey sheet. I noticed a mirror at the side of the room and quickly went over there and fixed my hair and makeup. Then I sat on the little stool in front of camera. Jeff snapped a bunch of pictures.
"Done." He said. We walked back into the room with computers. "Here, pick your favourite."
I sat down in front of the computer. I flipped through all the pictures before finally deciding on my favourite.
"It will be a couple hours before your pass is finished." Jeff said.
"Just call my office when its done." Jennifer said.
"Sure Jenny." Jeff said.
"Thanks." Jennifer said hugging Jeff before we left the room. We walked down the hall toward the elevator. We were casually chatting about some of the things I had to do once we got upstairs.
"Alex." I heard a mans voice behind me. I knew that voice before I even turned around. It was Sidney.
"Hey." I said as I watched him jog up to me.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come out with a couple of the guys later today?" Sidney asked. I remembered a couple of the guys not looking to happy that I'm here.
"I don't know." I said shifting on my feet.
"Come on. It will be fun." Sidney said. I sighed.
"Fine." I said giving in.
"I'll come get you from your office after practice." Sidney said smiling.
"See you then." I said getting on the elevator with Jennifer. Once the door closed Jennifer turned to me.
"He likes you." She said. I shook my head.
"No." I said.
"I think so." Was all she said the rest of the way up to our offices. I tried to push the thoughts from my mind for the rest of the day as I did all my work. I was excited to go out with some of the guys and get to know them better, but I was nervous that they wouldn't like me. I guess I would just have to wait and see how they are with me.

I was planning on posting every Sunday, but I didn't get a chance to write in the last couple days! Not sure if I'm going to do every Sunday, but I'll be working hard hopefully.
