Redemption of Puck Slut: Part I

August 28 2013

Aug. 28, 2013

Dear Diary,

I think the universe is trying to tell me something because I keep running into Sidney Crosby. First, I literally ran into him last week when Caeleigh and I went out with some of the ice girls to celebrate making the ice team. One of the veteran ice girls knew where a lot of guys liked to go out, but she didn’t tell the new girls that that was where we were going. I was at the bar picking up Caeleigh’s and my (fourth or fifth?) drink when I smashed into someone. Even though it was dark and the only lights were flashing strobe lights I knew it was him because of his eyes. I immediately apologized as I tried to clean his jacket off, but he said it was okay and insisted on buying us new drinks. He tried to say it was his fault for walking into me, but I was kind of tipsy and he was obviously very sober. The bartender got us our drinks in record time (I guess being Sidney Crosby has its benefits) and we made our way back to Caeleigh and some of the girls. It was too loud to talk, so we exchanged awkward smiles and he left to find the guys he came with. I’m really glad I didn’t try to drunkenly say anything to him, because I saw him the next day at Consol.

“Sorry about your jacket,” I said a bit embarrassed.

“Don’t worry about it,” he said with a smile. I realized we were walking in the same direction at the same speed, so I figured I should introduce myself to him, maybe? I’m such a dumb ass sometimes.

“I’m Emme, by the way,” I said extending my hand.

“Sid,” he replied taking my hand. (His hand was warm and soft, it made me melt a bit). “You were amazing yesterday; I think you might be over qualified to be an ice girl.”

Blushing, I thanked him. “I don’t know. They now expect ice girls to skate during intermission and do all sorts of tricks. When I started doing this in college at UNH they just wanted us to clear the ice, but when they realized some of us could actually skate we started doing stuff during intermission. I guess figure skating is becoming more prevalent in the NHL.”

We both laughed at the last part. We parted ways at their locker room and I ran over to Caeleigh to gush about talking to him and touching his hand (she was mad jealous).

The next day he invited us to lunch with some of the guys after practice. I could tell this was not something Sid normally did because his teammates (whose names I have not learned, oops) seemed very surprised. It was really nice out, so the seven of us walked there. I ended up sitting between Caeleigh and Sid, and the Russian guy who doesn’t speak English very well sat next to Caeleigh. She had fun trying to talk to him and correcting his grammar. I sat across from the goalie, flower (don’t remember his real name, I should probably look this up), he was pretty funny. After lunch Caeleigh and I had to skate again, we have so much stuff to choreograph! They want us to skate once during each home game and most of the ice girls are…. incompetent? That’s not polite. But they really do suck. I guess I’ve been skating a bit more than them and I did this in college, so Caeleigh and I do most of the complicated stuff. We are currently recreating Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and it’s going really well!

Something kind of awkward did happen at lunch, and I really wish I had just left my phone in my purse. It was on the table between Sid and me when I got a text from Cam. I forgot that my phone displays the first few words of a text on the lock screen and the words “you bitch! fucking whore” were in big letters on my screen. When my phone vibrated Sid glanced at it, because it was right next to him, but he most likely saw it.

As soon as I realized what it said I snatched it and put it in my purse not even reading the whole text. Sid looked very concerned when he asked me who it was from and I had to tell him it was my crazy ex. I didn’t want to be that girl that complained about her ex boyfriend so I tried to drop it, but he asked if everything was okay.

(God why does he have to be so sweet!!)

I smiled and tried to look confident when I told him I was fine and Cam was just having trouble moving on (which is a major understatement). He looked a bit wary like he didn’t believe me, but he let it go. The Cam situation is still difficult. I would really like to forget him, but he won’t stop texting me. At first he was just apologizing, but lately it’s been more desperate and negative. I haven’t told Caeleigh about him because I’d like to forget about it and move on.

Actually, Carli’s the only person I talked to about that. She’s still trying to get me to find her a hockey boyfriend haha not happening.

The rest of the week was pretty boring; no fun lunches with hockey players or spilling drinks on star NHL centers. He did wave to me once, and he gave me that awkward crooked smile that I am starting to love.

Three days ago Pancake was brave enough to leave my room. This was a huge mistake. The Woodcomb’s two year old son Timmy thought it would be fun to scream “kitty!” when he saw her and Pancake slashed his arm. Poor Timmy. Actually, Timmy has been really annoying. I really like living with them, Rebecca and John are really nice, but Timmy is crazy. Do children really need to cry this much? School starts in a couple of days and I can’t afford to miss this much sleep once school starts. Maybe I can move in with Caeleigh and her sister?

Two weeks until the first pre-season game and the first time I have to skate in front of many thousands of people! Still freaked out about this, but I am starting to get comfortable skating in Consol while it’s empty. Caeleigh’s 22nd birthday is tomorrow so we’re going out to this club with her sister and some of the ice girls. I hope I don’t physically run into Sidney Crosby again (or maybe I do?).

Sincerely,

Em
