Fix You

She was in the middle of pulling on her jeans when there was a loud knock on the door.

"Coming!" She yelled zipping up her pants before running down the stairs to see who was at the door.

Her breath caught in her throat when she saw Matt standing there.

"I thought I told you to leave me alone."

"I know." He said "I just...I can't."

"Goodbye Matt." She sighed as she moved to close the door before he stopped her.

"Riley I know I have no right to ask you this but...please."

She sighed before reluctantly stepping aside to let him in. When she turned back around after closing the door she noticed him staring at her and looked down at her half naked body, in a just a bra and her jeans.

"What?" She asked a smirk playing around her lips as she walked past him "It's not like you haven't seen any of this before."

"I know but..." He hesitates "It's been a while and I don't know it just brings back memories."

"Are you sure." He'd asked as she took off his shirt leaning in for another kiss.

"Mhhm." She takes a minute to respond so he knows she isn't being completly honest with him.

"We don't have to do this if you don't want to."

"No I want to!" She said a bit too quickly before closing her eyes and sighing "I do."

"C'mere." He said holding his outsretched arms for her. It was silent for a moment before he spoke up.

"What's wrong baby." He murmered into her hair holding her tightly against his body. "Talk to me."

"I just..." She paused looking for the right words "I don't want to be the girl that couldn't give you what you needed, I just...I want you to be happy."

"Your ridiculous sometimes you know that." He said ignoring her stare as she looked up to glare at him.

"I love you and I don't care how cliche this sounds but just being with you makes me happy. You don't need to give me anything Riley. Do I want to take it to the next step? Of course but I'm not going to force into something your not ready for. I'm willing to wait for you as long as you need."

"Really?"

"Yes really."

"I love you." She said looking up to meet his eyes.

"I love you too." He replied pulling her in for a light kiss before resting his chin on her head. "So much."

By the time he comes out of his revire and back into reality he sees Riley bustling around the living room now fully clothed looking for something.

"Here they are." She said leaning past matt to pick up her keys on the kitchen counter.

That's when he sees it.

He grabed her arm lighty ignoring her protests as he moved closer to get a better look.

"What happened?" He asked the pain evident in his voice as he searched her face.

"Nothing."

"Riley." He said steping in front of her as she tried to pass him.

"What happened."

"I told you." She replied her eyes narrowing "Nothing."

"Well that brouise says otherwise."

"Matt I have to go to class, please move." He looked up at her and they locked eyes, he searched them silently pleading with her to tell him what was going on.

But to no avail as she looked away quickly.

"Please move." She said in a voice so quiet he wan't sure she had said anything at all.

He stayed where he was a little while longer but when he realized she wouldn't be talking anytime soon he moved out of her way as she practically ran out the door not bothering to close is behind her.

As he stood there in her apartment with the door wide open all alone he contemplated staying and waiting until she came back.

His phone rang ripping through the silence making him jump.

"Hello?" He said in a shaky voice as he let out a breathe he didnt even know he was holding.

"Hey man, were about to start practice where are you?" He heard his captain say on the other line.

"Shit." He said checking his watch his eyes almost bulging out when he saw the time. "I'll be right there."

With that he ran out of Riley's apartment closing the door quickly before jetting down the hall.

"You made it." Gabe said as Matt came running in out of breathe.

"Yeah and just in time." He heard someone - probably Ryan - say from across the locker room.

"What happened to you, your always the first one here." Gabe said as he laced up his skates.

"Just lost track of time I guess." Matt replied shedding his shirt as he changed.

"Matt Duchene lost track of time?" Paul Stastny chirped from the stall beside him. "Well that's a first."

"Was it the girl from last night?" Gabe asked with a knowing grin as Matt blushed ducking his head so the guys wouldn't notice and chirp him even more.

"Does little Matty have a girlfriend?" P. A. Parenteau teased as the guys all laughed and Matt flushed even more.

"She has a name you know." He informed Gabe as he put on his gear. "Besides she's not my girlfriend."

"Does that mean one of us can snag her? She's pretty hot man."

Matt shot Gabe a glare as he laughed and raised his arms up in defence.

"Ok ok, we'll back off." He smiled as he made his way out of the dressing room and down the hall.

Matt took longer than usual to get dressed and ready for practice with the events of the morning still replying in his head.

Practice was a blur as Matt felt the weight of questions he had on his mind slowing him down.

He took lazy shots moving almost numbly and mumbling a quick "sorry" when coach Roy caught him lingering on the sidelines lost in his own thoughts.

Once practice was over Matt was grateful as he skated towards the bench.

"Matt!" He turned around and saw Gabe skating towards him with that we need to talk look that he was hoping to avoid.

"What's up?" He asked turning to Gabe.

"I should be asking you the same thing." His captain said "Are you ok man?"

"Yeah I'm fine."

"Matt."

"I just..I've got alot on my mind."

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No."

But he did, he did want to talk about it just not with Gabe. With Riley.

"Well if you ever do." Gabe started putting his hand on Matt's shoulder as a sign of support. "I'm here for you."

"I know that." Matt smiled. "Thanks."

"Anytime."

"Remember when we were five and I pushed you to hard and you went flying?"

They were at the park sitting on the swings and it brought them back to a time when they were kids, a time that felt like so long ago.

"I did not go flying." She challenged "But thanks for that by the way I've always wanted a cast."

"I said I was sorry." He laughed

"Yeah yeah." She smiled jokingly

"You also helped me up and told me you loved me." She said recalling the memory with a laugh.

"I still do."

She looked over at him and the mood suddenlt changed, they stared at eachother for what felt like hours before Riley finally spoke up.

"What are you saying?"

Instead of answering he leaned in and closed the gap between them. Their lips moving in sync as they continued to kiss.

"Does that answer your question?"

"Not sure." She joked with a smirk. "Give me a minute."

She pulled him in again capturing his lips in a sweet kiss as he chuckled into the kiss.

"I love you." He said resting his head on hers when they pulled away. "I love you too."

He'd do anything to be back in that moment again. Anything to have her in his arms.

He'd do anything to have Riley be his again.
