The Maroon Beret

Twenty Six

-Charlie-
I had a feeling Sean wasn’t going to stick to the deal for Christmas. That’s why I bought him the sweater. As soon as I saw it in the store I knew it would look absolutely amazing on him, and I was right. After the mishap this morning, I had been kinda on the edge about having sex with him. But after seeing Sean in that sweater, it just looked so good. And of course he had to be the sweetest person in the world and say all the right things. I don’t understand how he’s so calm about all of this. He acts like it’s not a big deal at all that his fiancee doesn’t have a fucking leg. Honestly, I truly love it. It makes me feel like nothing is wrong and when I’m with him I actually sorta feel normal.

I was expecting Sean to get me something small, like maybe a necklace or earrings. I certainly wasn’t expecting him to buy a fucking house. His explanation of why he bought it made sense, but it still baffled me that he owns it.

My hand is shaking as I put the key into the lock. When I get it unlocked, Sean’s warm hand slips into mine. I push open the door and together we walk into our house for the first time.

The first thing I notice when I step into the house is the gigantic ceiling that seems to go all the way up to the roof. On either side of the main foyer there is a set of stairs that I assume lead towards the bedrooms. I decide I’ll look at those later, after I check out the first floor. I walk through the main foyer and directly into a massive kitchen. The counter tops are beautiful and the stainless steel appliances look brand new. There’s an island in the middle with four barstools next to it, where we can eat our meals. Off to the left of the kitchen I find a formal dining room and a hallway that leads to the garage and a laundry room, complete with a wall of coat hooks.

To the right of the kitchen, the house opens up into a gigantic living room. There is an enormous flat screen on one wall with a massive multi-piece couch facing it. The back wall is almost complete glass and leads out to what looks like a sunroom. Out the window, I can see a grill and a hot tub on the deck and an extensive yard, complete with what looks like a fire pit.

Finally, there’s a door in the back corner of the living room that Sean pushes me towards. I open the door and my jaw drops. I feel like I’ve walked directly into my dream bedroom. The walls are a warm gray and the king sized bed looks like a cloud. Against the wall across from what will be my side of the bed is a long dresser and a gigantic mirror. I blush slightly when I realize the mirror is positioned so anyone on the bed can see themselves in it. Sean definitely thought that one out. Along that same wall are two doors. I open the first one and find a giant walk-in closet, which already has some of our stuff in it.

I know the second door must lead to the master bathroom, so I open it slowly. I’m honestly not even sure what I see can be considered a bathroom. To me, it looks more like a spa. In the first section I find a sink and the toilet. Handles have been installed on either side of the toilet, which will make it a lot easier for me to stand up if I’m not wearing my prosthetic. In the second section I find a walk-in shower that looks big enough to hold ten people. There are multiple shower heads, each with their own nozzle and a permanent bench on one side. The gray tile matches that in the bedroom, and goes nicely with the orange towels hanging outside the door. Next to the shower, there’s a small alcove with a bench where I can get dressed after a shower without having to hop back into the bedroom.

As amazing as all of this looks, none of it compares to what I find in the last section of the bathroom. The gray bathtub that sits before me looks more like a jacuzzi. It’s definitely big enough for both Sean and I to fit inside it at the same time. The sides are wide enough that I can sit on them while I take my prosthetic off, and there’s a table next to it where I can put my leg. I start to notice about a dozen small candles around the room, which will make the room look so romantic when they’re lit.

As I’m staring at the gorgeous bathroom in front of me, Sean’s arms wrap around my middle and I realize I haven’t said a single word to him since we’ve come into the house.
“Do you like it?” He asks nervously.
“Sean... It’s perfect.” I say in a small voice.
“Really?” His signature smile begins to pull at the corners of his mouth.
“Yes, really.” I say.
“Do you want to see the upstairs or the basement?” He asks. “The basement was unfinished when I bought it, and it’s the only part of the house I literally didn’t do anything to. It’s big enough that there are a million different things we could do to it.”
“I don’t need to see that now.” I say, heading back out of the massive bathroom and into the bedroom. “Tell me about the upstairs? I’ll go look later.” He smiles.
“There are actually two sides to the upstairs. On the left, there are two bedrooms and on the right there are three. The two bedrooms are bigger than the three, though. I figure we could make one side for our boys and one side for our girls.” He blushes sheepishly.
“How many kids are we talking?” I ask with a laugh.
“We have enough room for seven.” He says, and my eyes go wide. “But obviously we don’t have to have that many. We just have the space, you know.... If we want to.”
“I’m not sure if I want to deliver seven babies, but we can definitely discuss that down the road.” I respond with a smile of my own.

“I want to have as many children with you as you want.” He says honestly, which instantly makes heat pool between my legs.

“Hey Sean?” I ask, shutting the door out to the rest of the house.
“Yeah?”
“Do you want to start trying to make those babies right now?”

As we lock up the house after a wonderful Christmas dinner, I can’t help but smile at the fact that this is what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life. Everyone loved the new house, and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. But most importantly, Charlie loves this house and it’s where we’re going to raise our children. I know Charlie is going to be a wonderful mother, and I’m hoping that day will come soon.

It completely took me by surprise before, when she asked me if I wanted to make a baby right now. Just twelve hours earlier, she was pulling away from my touch and then suddenly she was asking me to impregnate her. Who in their right mind would say no to that, though? If Charlie is ready for that step, so am I.

I do wish we were already married though. If it was up to me, we would go to the court house and get married tomorrow. And I think Charlie feels the same way. Neither of us really want the big ceremony and fancy party. But we both know that isn’t really an option considering how many people we consider our family. They would all be hurt if we didn’t invite them. That’s why professional athletes typically have huge weddings.

“So your parents are flying in tomorrow morning.” Charlie says, breaking me from my thoughts.
“Yeah, I told them they can stay in one of the rooms upstairs.” I respond, shutting our bedroom door.
“That sounds perfect.”

We decided to spend the night here instead of go back to the apartment because we both wanted to have wine. We also wanted to spend the first night in our house alone, and with my parents flying in tomorrow we knew we wouldn’t get that chance if it didn’t happen tonight.

“I know it’s silly since I already know they love me, but I’m still nervous to actually meet them for the first time.” She admits as she pulls her leg off.
“You’re right, it is silly.” I respond. “But I understand.”

She lays back onto her pillow and I pull the covers up over both of us. Resting all my weight on my one arm, I let my other hand travel along her side. I lean in to kiss her and she instantly deepens it, threading her fingers through my hair. Simultaneously we both part our lips and explore each other’s mouths. I hook my hand around to her back and pull her closer to me.

“I don’t think we’ve christened the house enough.” She says, breaking our connection.

“I think I can come up with a couple ways we can fix that.” I respond with a wink.

I already have, it's on mibba. It's just too much work to change the formatting so it fits here. I might later, though. But it's up on mibba if you want to look there.

@FMBrookshire
Thank you so much. I love hearing that people are enjoying this. I've always wanted to write a story about Couturier, and my best friend's deployment with the Marines just inspired me. I'm trying my best to make it realistic and relatable, even for people who don't have any personal military connections.

I can honestly say I am constantly checking for a new update on this story. I don't really know where you get the attention to detail from, but thank you. It's so nice that even for a fan fiction you put real problems our loved ones in the military are coming home with. I can't speak for every vet but not just the injured ones can suffer from PTSD. I know that it's something we live with everyday in our home and I really believe your story is getting awareness about a very real situation.
