The sitter

Chapter 7

It was 10:37, and I was at the door of the William's apartment, deciding how to say good bye to Patrick, or rather not say good bye. I held Jaxon on my hip, who was fast asleep, tired after playing with socks. I looked at Patrick, who in turn, looked at me.

"So," Patrick began. "Today was fun."

"That's one way to put it." I said, lightly laughing. Today was more than fun. Today was fucking awesome.

"We should do it again." Patrick said, surprising me. NHL superstar hangs out with babysitter? Time to wake up from the dream, Mel.

"Mhm." I said, trying to sound nonchalant. As if it was everyday that I got asked to hang out with a professional athlete. "What's your schedule like?"

"We have a game in LA, and then Phoenix, so I'll be gone for a while," I tried not to let my disappointment show. But what he said next turned my mood around. "So hopefully that'll be long enough for you to hire a real back-up sitter. For next Tuesday. At about 6:30."

I almost dropped Jaxon. Was this a date? Was what we did today a date? I decided to ask.

"So, a date?"

"You, me, fancy restaurant, nasty wine, pretty much."

"Would that be our first, or would what we did today count?" I asked, biting my lip.

"For whatever it's worth, it could be our third." He said with a laugh, showing his dimples. I would have hit him, but I honestly agreed. But then I remembered that I didn't want to be a whore, so I had to speak up.

"Maybe first."

"Of many." Patrick countered.

"Go to bed."

"You first."

I huffed my shoulders, and turned to face the door, so I could open it.

"Wait," he said, pulling at my shoulder. I turned, and he kissed me.

For the second time in about two minutes, I almost dropped Jaxon.
"Good night. Oh, and channel 333, you should watch. I'm number 88." And then he turned on his heel, and disappeared in his room.

In a daze of emotions, I put Jaxon to bed and changed in to my pajamas. Then, I crawled in bed, and laid on my back, looking at the ceiling. In the moments that passed, I realized three things. One was that Patrick was a very good kisser. Even in the few seconds that had passed, I knew that I wanted to spend a lot of my time there. The second thing was that Patrick Kane had asked me on a date, in a restaurant, with him. The third was that I had left the lights on.

Patrick's POV

The game had returned, but not at 100%. I had dropped tons of one liners that had resulted in dropping of panties, but somehow asking Mel to dinner made me feel, for the first time in forever, on the lower hand. I was scared she would say no, or tell me about a boyfriend, or worse, a husband or fiancé.

Before, it wouldn't bother me, but being around her made me comfortable, it felt easy. And I knew she was into it, judging by the way she listened to me talk about Buffalo for at least two hours, but
I was still scared. What if it was pity?

No. It wasn't. She likes you, Kaner. Pull yourself together. That's what I need to do. I pulled of my shirt and jeans, found my beats, and turned my phone to a game day playlist. Then I crawled in my bed that I made for no reason, and looked up at the ceiling. I realized three things. One was that Mel was a really good kisser. Her lips were soft and big and nice, and I knew I would kiss her a lot. The second thing was that I told her to watch me play, which meant that I had to impress, do well. Not that I could go easy before, but doing things is different when you are doing the thing not just for your self, but for somebody else. The third thing was that I left the fucking lights on.
