What Kind of Job
Why Didn't You Tell Me?
James' POV.
I haven't played in a while so I don't need to lay my gear out. I just need to put it away, it's not like I'm using it anytime soon. I'm not traveling with the team but I do have to work out daily. It's been a long week and I just want to chill out a bit, but now I have a guest.
When I comeback to the main room she's looking at my awards. She looks surprised that there are so many. I walk up beside her and put my hand on her shoulder. "It's like you've never seen an award before." I tease her almost forgetting she's not one of the guys on my team.
She giggles "I have just not this many."
"Seeing as I've been into competitive things since I could walk, it's not that many."
She looks at me "How old are you then?" Now she's teasing me.
I'm laughing now, "I'm 23. How about you?"
"I'm also 23."
"Well now, let's sit and talk about this." I say remembering the reason she's here. I offer her a seat and take the one beside her.
"Ya. I didn't see the whole game because I had a game that night. I saw the after game show and obviously a starting goaltender injury made a top story."
"Listen, April." I pause because I'm not to sure what to say. "I didn't tell you earlier because I wanted to have a friend that doesn't only talk hockey. A friend that wouldn't make up some BS every time we lose, or talk me up when we win. I want a friend that will treat me like anybody else, because that's all I am."
April's POV.
I can really understand what he means and I don't feel at all angry at him. "I know James, I know how it must be. It must be terrible, I would probably hate all the attention and BS. I just want to know if you're alright, that's the biggest reason I wanted to see you."
He relaxes a bit. "I'm fine, it's just a neck injury."
Notes
First fanfic. I'll happily take helpful comments but no hate please.
