One Timers

Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews

The Blackhawks win the 2015 Stanley Cup. It’s their third Cup in six years, and the entire city is absolutely wild.

Pat is especially excited for it this year, because it means he gets to put his 4 month old baby girl, Malia, in the Cup. And he’s already requested to have it the entire weekend of his wedding, so it’ll be there right next to his Stanley Cup groom’s cake. How cool is that?

The entire week after they win is a mad house. Every night, the entire team goes out and parties like crazy. Pat is a little more reserved than he was the first two times, since he’s got a fiancee and a baby to go home to. He finally understands why guys like Sharpie don’t get wild.

A couple nights in, things change. Jon, always the serious one of the group, decides he’s going to pretend he’s old Kaner, and gets absolutely wasted. Pat, suddenly the responsible one of the group, is put in charge of making sure Jon gets home safely. So Pat hails them a cab and supports Jon’s weight as he helps him up the stairs to his bedroom once they get to his house. He makes sure he’s all tucked in and starts to leave to go home.

But of course things can’t be that simple. No, this apparently is the time that Jonny Boy decides he’s going to come clean about all of his feelings. Drunk Jonny tells Sober Pat all about how he’s loved him since their rookie season. At first, Pat thinks it’s the normal “I love you, man!” drunk, post-victory speech. But the more Jonny talks, the more Pat realizes he’s saying he loves him. Like, LOVES him. Pat suddenly wants so bad to talk about this with Jon, but Drunk Jonny simply passes out in the middle of talking about how amazing Pat is.

Pat can’t think straight, and can’t even bring himself to leave Jon’s house. He texts his fiancee that he’s spending the night to make sure Jon doesn’t die from alcohol poisoning, and makes himself comfortable on his couch. But Pat can’t sleep. He spends the entire night thinking about what Jon said. Because when it comes down to it, Pat feels the exact same way. He always has. Since the beginning, it’s been Jonny and Pat. Pat and Jonny. It’s the way it’s supposed to be.

In the morning, Pat makes a fresh pot of coffee that lures Jon from his room. Pat’s eyes are drooping from the lack of sleep, but his mind is still wide awake. Eventually, Pat musters up the courage to ask Jon about what he said the night before. Jon, of course, goes bright red before admitting that it was all true. That he’s been in love with Pat for years now. Pat admits that he feels the same way.

Neither of them are sure where to go from here. Pat decides that, for the sake of his daughter, he has to stay with his fiancee. He has to get married. But at the same time, it isn’t fair to her to lead a pretend life. So they agree that he has to tell her about his true feelings for his captain.

She surprisingly takes it really well. Too well, in fact. After Pat pours his heart out about how much he loves Jon (making it very clear that he intends on still marrying her), she admits that she’s in love with someone else too. Apparently the last time she visited home, she ran into her high school sweetheart and they felt the old spark that they had in years past. But she was already pregnant and engaged to Pat, and didn’t want to break his heart.

Despite the protests from their family (who of course don’t know the full story), they break up mutually. Pat is thrilled when she agrees to have shared custody of Malia. She gets her during the season, and Pat gets her during the summers. He also gets her a couple times during the season when they have breaks, and they agree to work out an equal schedule for holidays.

The summer is absolutely fantastic for Pat, since he’s finally free to love Jon the way he’s always wanted to. Though they keep their relationship a secret, their friendship seems to get even stronger than the fans and the media ever thought. They even attend each other’s Cup days, and Malia Kane has more pictures of her in the Cup with her Uncle Jon than anyone ever thought was possible.

When the season comes around, Pat and Jon decide they have to tell their teammates. It’s only fair. And in November, they decide it’s time to come out to the entire world. Together, of course. They’re surprised at how well the fans and the league accept them. And apparently they start a new trend, since Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin announce their relationship at the All-Star game that February. (Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin also announce their relationship, but that’s not until the next season.)

That season, they lose in the Western Conference Finals. It’s heart breaking, but at least they have each other.

At Pat’s fourth of July party later that summer, he decides to take their relationship to the next step and asks Jon to marry him. Their mothers bawl their eyes out together in happiness, and immediately start planning the wedding. Jon and Pat don’t really care about anything other than being together, so they’re totally okay with it.

Their wedding the following summer is widely considered one of the biggest of the century. Not only is basically the entire NHL invited (all of Team USA and Team Canada, of course) plus their families, but also celebrities who hey’ve become friends with over the years. Despite the two dashing grooms, it’s actually little Malia who steals the show in her beautiful flower girl dress.

Jon insists on saying his vows first, and in the beginning Pat is ridiculously confused. But then Jon admits that he knows he’s going to cry when Pat says his vows. And Jon, the more organized and controlled of the two, won’t be able to handle himself if he’s crying before he has to speak. It makes Pat’s heart swell, and somehow makes him even more in love with Jon than ever before.

After their wedding, they end up proving to the world that they actually have the most amazing relationship in the entire world. They support each other both on and off the ice, and become even more of a deadly duo than before. Which is really saying something.

A couple years and another Cup later, Jon realizes just how badly he wants a kid of his own. He loves Malia, like she’s his own daughter. But he’s only “Uncle Jon” to her. He really wants to be a father of his own. So they ask Pat’s ex-fiancee to be artificially inseminated and carry Jon’s baby for them. They know she’s a fantastic choice, since she was so wonderful when she had Malia.

She of course agrees, and that off season, they welcome their new little boy into the world. Ethan Kane Toews. Since Pat is already “daddy” to Malia, Jon decides he wants to be “papa” from now on. Ethan has dual citizenship, a resident of both Canada and America, since they split their time between Winnipeg and Buffalo in the off season.

The three (sometimes four) of them are one happy family unit for a couple more years until Jon gets injured in the second period of game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Pat find out during intermission that it’s a career-ending knee injury, and goes absolutely nuts on the Habs in the third period, busting open the 0-0 tie with four goals of his own and clinching their sixth Stanley Cup together.

Jon officially retires a week later, and the Hawks name Pat as the new Captain. Pat plays three more years (Jon is hired as an assistant coach) and wins another championship for the city before joining Jon in retirement. They have seven Stanley Cup championships together (including the final one), and are widely considered the unofficial Kings of Chicago.

After they retire, Jon continues to be an assistant coach and Pat takes an on-camera job with the NHL network, showcasing his bubbly personality. They both become the biggest cheer-dads for Malia’s cheerleading team, and also the team-favorites for Ethan’s peewee hockey team.

As soon as Ethan is old enough to skate, they can both tell he’s destined to be a hockey superstar. He’s a natural on skates, and has two dads who are more than willing to teach him it all. He absorbs Jon’s serious dedication for training, but also adopts Pat’s care-free attitude and absolute joy for the sport. He has the potential to be the greatest hockey player of all time.

Ethan decides to wear the number 89, in honor of both of his dads. He gets drafted first overall right out of high school by none other than the Chicago Blackhawks, and placed on the first line with Captain Brandon Saad.

When January rolls around, both Team USA and Team Canada ask him to be a part of their Olympic rosters. It’s especially important to Jon because he’s been asked to be an assistant coach for Team Canada under Sidney Crosby as the head coach. His fathers are split for a couple days, but Ethan eventually chooses to go with Team USA.

Jon feels abandoned and slighted for a couple days, but when Ethan explains why he chose Team USA he understands. Ethan grew up in Chicago ten months out of the year his entire life. While he’s technically both American and Canadian, he feels more like an American. That’s why he chose to represent the red white and blue.

Of course the gold medal game ends up being between Canada and USA. Pat is in emotional turmoil. Who does he cheer for? His own country and his son, or the love of his life? The man who made him the happiest person in the world.

Ethan ends up scoring the gold medal goal in the second overtime. As hard as it is on Jon to lose, even he can’t be upset about it. Because Ethan scored the gold medal goal.

Continuing the most amazing rookie season in the history of hockey, Ethan goes on the lead the Hawks in scoring through the rest of the regular season and the post season. Captain Saad decides to celebrate his accomplishments, and makes sure he’s the second person to lift the Cup after he receives it.

Ethan also wins the Conn Smythe and the Calder that year, establishing himself as the official future of the NHL.

The next year, Jon and Pat both have their numbers retired together. The celebration video is easily one of the greatest in all of sports. Basically the greatest highlights of the thirteen (and sixteen) years they played for the organization belong to them. And the fans are beyond thankful for the way they brought the Original Six team back into the spotlight of their city and the NHL fan base.

For the rest of their lives, Jon and Pat are the poster children for a happy relationship. They love each other more and more each day, even though they catch a couple rough patches here and there. It’s perfect bliss, honestly. And it just keeps getting better.

My apologies, if you don't like it.

Can you do a Henrik Zetterberg one shot, NC-17 and the scenario is that she's a new member of the training staff and they get some alone time in the locker room?

I've read all of these now (at least once, sometimes more lol) and the Sidney Crosby & Tyler Bozak arcs are incredibly good. We NEED Part 3's on those. Maybe Philly has to go to the All Star Game and manage Sid because he FINALLY agrees to go one year -but Giroux is also there.... oh man, angry threesome?? As for Bozak, surely lunch turns into afternoon delight. Surely! :) Keep it up, these are great!
