“Jaromir Anthony Jagr, if you don’t sit down for breakfast right now you will not be allowed to go to the game tonight.” Eila threatens her son.

That causes the eight year old to automatically stop running around the house. With his eyes wide in fear, he scuttles to the kitchen table and climbs up in his chair to eat his cereal. He’s done in record time, and she gives him a look. He moves to the dining room table where he left his homework the night before.

“Dobré ráno, my loves.” Jaromir says, joining the two. (Good morning)
“Hi dad!” Tony yells, running in to greet his father.

Tony jumps up and Jaromir grabs him, spinning him in a circle. He then sits down with Tony in his lap and eats his own cereal while the boy talks non stop about the game against the Islanders tonight. It pains Jaromir slightly, but apparently John Tavares is his favorite player. Though he hopes that doesn’t include his own father.

“Have you been good for your mother this morning?” He asks when he’s done his breakfast.
Tony nods his head, and Jaromir gives Eila a look over his shoulder.

“He was a little crazy earlier. But he settled down and ate breakfast. Have you collected everything you need for school, můj syn?” (my son)
“Yes, mama.”
“Let’s go then.”

Unfortunately, Eila’s car broke down yesterday. So the three have to share a car for today. They pile into Jaromir’s truck, with Eila driving. She stops at Tony’s school first and Jaromir hops out of the passenger’s seat to help his son with his bag. Eila watches as some of the other mothers’ eyes go wide when they recognize the long-time NHL star. Though Eila and Jaromir aren’t married, they’ve been together for ten years. Their son is named after his father. And yet somehow women still don’t believe her when she tells them that she’s dating Jaromir. So to see their faces when he steps out of the car is absolutely priceless. And totally worth not having her own car.

Once Tony is safely inside the school, Jaromir gets back into the car and hey take off to practice. Eila drops him off with a sweet kiss and he reminds her that Patrik Elias agreed to drop him off at home afterwards.

Later that night, Tony can’t contain himself after the game and sprints into the locker room before the media is done with their interviews. He runs right to his father, who is in the middle of answering some questions, completely unfazed by the cameras in their faces.

Eila follows him, embarrassed by her son’s actions. But the young Jagr seems to only draw chuckles and smiles from everyone. Jaromir beckons for Eila to join them, but she doesn’t feel as comfortable in front of the cameras as her son and boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Jaromir and Tony both answer as many questions as the media wants. To Jaromir’s dismay, one reporter asks Tony who his favorite player is. Tony, of course, says Tavares. Jaromir dramatically groans, but smiles at the same time.

When the media is done with their interviews, Eila grabs her son and they give Jaromir space to get dressed to go home. When he finally joins them, they make their way out to his car in the players’ parking lot.

On the way there, they pass the Islanders making their way to their bus. Tony loudly gasps and yells “Dad! There’s John Tavares!” making the Islanders and his father laugh.

“Is this your mini-me, Jags?” Tavares asks.
“Yes, and some how I am not his favorite player.” Jaromir responds.
“Oh? Who’s your favorite player?” He asks Tony.
The eight year old stares at him for a minute, shocked and awed.
“Tony, he asked you a question.” Eila nudges her son with a smile.
“Um. You are.” The normally rambunctious child whispers, blushing.
“Me?” Tavares asks. “Well that’s quite an honor, considering your dad is my favorite player.”

Tony smiles up at him and Eila asks if she can take a picture of the two. John politely agrees and wraps a giant arm around the boy, who smiles like crazy. They pose for the picture and Eila thanks him profusely as he talks to Tony about his peewee hockey team. He isn’t surprised to hear that Tony is one of the best in his league.

Eventually, the Islanders have to leave and Tony says good bye to his new friend. The three pile into the car and Jaromir drives them home. It’s incredibly late, considering Tony has school the next day. So they all climb into Tony’s child-sized bed and take turns reading his bed time story. Really, Jaromir and Eila take turns. But it gets Tony to fall asleep, which was the main goal.

“Did he finish his homework?” Jaromir asks as they sneak out of his room and towards their own.
“He did. I told him he wouldn’t be allowed to go to the game if he didn’t.” Eila smiles.
“Good.”

The two change into their pajamas and curl up together in bed. Jaromir’s large body warming Eila’s back.

“I love you.” She says.

“Já tě miluju víc.” He responds, reaching around to kiss her forehead. (I love you more)
