The Tandem

"Thank you so much Krej!", I jump up with my new mask in hand and squeeze the life out of David. My favorite forward just hand delivered the box with my new mask to practice and surprised me with it. But shhhhh don't tell anyone that he's my favorite. It's been 8 weeks since we went to the place and designed it. Everyone comes over to my stall after I release David and comment on how badass my mask is.

Istuck with the black base color and I kept my high school logo, this time it's right on to of my head. On the sides, I had a giant battle scene with, get this, Iron Man. Well Iron Bruin, David and I kinda geeked out at the place. And last but not least, I have 'Willsy' written in script under the cage. New nickname, it doesn't completely suck.

"Jess, you ready?", Tuukka stops by my stall, waiting as I tie my sneakers.

"Yep, the usual place?", I grab my phone from the shelf of the stall and walk side by side with Tuukka to his car.

"Of course!", he opens the driver door and starts the engine, taking off as soon as I buckle up.
Since my first practice, we've made it a regular thing to go out to lunch after practices and morning skates. I've gotten to know the nut we have in the crease and he is one adorable and hysterical guy.

He pulls into the parking lot of our favorite Mexican food place. The way to my heart is buying me Mexican food. Do that and I'll love you until I die, seriously I'm not kidding!

"I'm digging the short hair", Tuukka says as we sit in the corner booth with our usual order. My buddy Shawn Thorton held a fundraiser and said either shave your head or donate 5K. I kinda went 'Fuck this!' and now my head is shaved. It really took care of my hair issue and I owe Shawn one, he's backed me up when I've 'accidentally' gotten into a goalie fight.

I've had 5 goalie fights in 2 months. One with Carey, he sucks at fighting girls and I told him that. We talk on the phone every once in a while and no, I didn't give Anabel his number yet. She's planning our wedding, quite a Habs fan there.

"I rock the shaved head and you know it", I say and take a giant bite of one of my tacos. Amazing as usual.

"Okay Jess, hear me out on this. I've been trying to get the balls to ask you this for two months and Tyler pretty much said 'If you won't ask her out, I will' and I can't see myself without you so I have to take the plunge and ask you to be my girlfriend", Tuukka suddenly blurts, causing me to forget how to eat and gag on my taco. Smooth Jess, very smooth.

"Wait repeat the last part again", I say, taking a sip of my soda. Is he asking me what I think he's asking me?

"Will you be my girlfriend? Happy now?", he says sarcastically, causing me to basically turn into a tomato.

"Yes and duh", I say, blushing to maximum blush. Seriously, my blushing looks like someone dumped a bucket of red paint on my head.

"Can you stop making me say things straight up", he says laughing.

"Never!"

"You're such a fucking dork."

"Yep and this dork is your girlfriend!"

"Oh jeez what did I get myself into?"

"Oh don't worry Tuukks, you can't get rid of me now!"

"Not that I'd want to, Jess."

"Me neither, I love my weird Fin!"

"I love my insane American."
