Maybe Someday

When I woke up I was surprised to find James wasn’t in bed with me. I pouted but found a note on his pillow.

Annie,

Sorry I left, but I’m at the rink with a few guys. I probably won’t be home until after lunch, but feel free to stay if you’d like. I’ll catch up with you later.

P.S. Last night was great;)

I smiled before slipping out of bed to get ready for the day. I had to be at work until my clients picked up their orders and would hopefully get a few more. The job at James’s place had me in a good spot financially for awhile but at some point I would need to find more work.

I had left James’s house at 9:30 and was out of work by 1, but knew James wouldn’t be done so I called my best friend in the city, Kelsey, to make lunch plans. We sat outside a cute little café gossiping and catching up on the past few weeks. Since getting together with James I had hardly seen Kelsey and even though she understood I felt bad for pushing her back.

“So how’s the sex?” Kelsey leans forward on the table not wanting to miss a thing.

“Kelsey!” I blush furiously and glance around to make sure no one heard. Thankfully we were seated pretty far away from the other customers.

“Oh, c’mon Annie! I need details! I’m practically living through you right now!” She gushed.

“It’s amazing!” I finally say causing my face to burn redder. “I don’t mean to sound like Drake, but...no doubt the best I’ve ever had.” Kelsey and I fell into a fit of giggles.

“God, I can’t believe you’re dating a hockey player! You’re practically famous now! Have you seen your twitter lately?” I shook my head at her, “Annie you’ve got like almost a thousand followers!”

My eyes widened in shock and I got my phone out to check my twitter. Sure enough my followers were at 985.

“Geez, that just shows how much of a hockey town this is!” I said. I really can’t believe so many people are following just because I’m dating James.

I received more mentions and thank you’s from the girls who I had James tweet. I favorited the two and then I had Kelsey smile for a pic and tweeted.

“You are seriously addicted to twitter, aren’t you?” Kelsey said chuckling. I smiled and nodded.

“It’s awesome! I don’t understand why you’re not on it more often.” She shook her head and took a sip of her drink.

My phone buzzed in my hand and I looked down to see a text from James.

From: James

Girl talk eh? I know what that means;) Don’t drool over me for too long!

To: James

Are you stalking me James Neal?;)

From: James

Maybe just a little...Can’t let you stray too far lol...Dinner at my place tonight? We can order in, I have to talk to you about something.

To: James

Aww don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere just yet. Sounds good! Can we do Chinese?! Okay...? Should I be worried?

From: James

Good, cause i’m kinda getting attached. Sure babe, whatever you want. No! Not at all, trust me.

I aww’d at his last text and Kelsey rolled her eyes jokingly.

“You’re already sickeningly cute!” She exclaimed.

To: James

Good, cause I am too;) Alright, whatever you say. See you later! xoxo

From: James

Later babe xoxo

The rest of the day I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. He just made me so giddy inside.

“James?” I called out to him as I stepped into his house.

“In the living room!” He called back. I swiftly walked over before plopping down on my knees next to him and turning his face to kiss him. I hadn’t seen him since last night and missed him--too much. I really was getting attached.

“Mmm hey baby.” James said after pulling away. I smiled down to him and moved my legs underneath me to get more comfortable. He wrapped his arm around me drawing me in closer.

“I ordered the food a little bit ago, it should be here soon.” I nodded.

“Sooo, do you want to talk now?” I asked actually a little nervous for what he had to say.

“Uhh yeah, I guess.” He said before turning off the T.V. to give me his full attention. He turned to face me but kept me close. “So I was talking to my dad earlier and he was asking if I was going to come back home because of the lockout.” I instantly pouted and curled myself closer to him, not wanting him to leave.

He chuckled softly before leaning in to kiss it off my face.

“But I told him that I was going to stay here...” He ended obviously wanting to see my reaction.

“Really?” I asked hopefully.

“Of course, Annie! Look, I really like you and like I said before I’ve gotten too attached to just leave you behind. But I would like to go home and spend some time on the lake, and see the rest of my family and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go with me?” Before I could get in anything he began again. “I know it’s a lot to ask for you to just drop everything so quickly but, Beck wants me to come up this weekend, she wants to see you, and I don’t want to go without you.” He stopped talking to take a deep breath gauging my reaction.

I just smiled up at him, “I would love to go with you James.” His face broke out into a mega-watt smile before hugging me tightly.

The great thing about being an artist is that I can work from anywhere. I can pick up anytime and move half way around the world. Not that I have any interest in doing that, but it’s nice to know that I can.

James kissed me quickly before getting out his phone presumably to text his family.

“So when do we leave? And how long will we be staying?” I asked trying to figure out how long I had to pack.

“Well we can leave tomorrow if you want or Friday. I was thinking we could stay the weekend, or longer if you want. Like I said I don’t have to be back at any given time, just as long I get my workouts in. And I have a few guys up in Whitby who help me during the offseason.”

“Okay, how about we leave Friday, I’ll need more time to pack. You have to promise you’ll actually relax with me for a few days. You’ve been working out like crazy here, I think you deserve a little break.” He nodded smiling.

“Alright babe, I will.”

“I’m sooo excited!!” I squealed. “I haven’t seen Becca in forever! And I miss your mom too!”

James just laughed, “Guess I don’t have to worry about you getting along with my family eh?”

I shook my head smiling. This is going to be a great trip!
