Two Pieces

College Parties

Fiona slowly unpacked her things putting them in the right places, she sat down on her bed taking a moment to let everything sink in. She looked around her dorm room and sighed, this would be another year she’d spend at school in Montreal while her friends traveled around the states with their boyfriends.
She carefully grabbed her picture frames and placed them on her bedside table, she looked at one in particular, it was a photo of her and the other girls at their first hockey game together. She remembered that night perfectly, Fiona hooked up with her first hockey player that night.
Fiona grabbed her phone off her bed and dialed Ariel’s number; she put it on speaker and placed it on her bedside table while she unpacked the rest of her things.
“Jordan stop!” Ariel shouted as she answered, “Sorry about that, what’s up Fi?”
“What’s going on there?” She laughed as she heard Jordan shouting about something in the background.
“There’s a spider in her room and she’s too scared to kill it.” Ariel explained, although Fiona couldn’t see her she could tell that sentence ended with an eye roll.
“How is she?” Fiona asked concerned, Jordan had been a mess all summer long and it pained her to see her friend so broken.
She felt horrible for having to leave Ariel by herself with Jordan, Kenzie and Sam had moved to Chicago permanently at the end of the summer, and Kayla and Violet had finally moved to Pittsburgh a few days ago. Fiona tried to spend as much time with Jordan before she had to leave and go back to school.
Jordan’s shouting had gotten quieter as Ariel walked away from her, “I still hear her cry at night,” Ariel sighed, “She’s trying though, she goes out more often, she’s been spending time with Morgan, I think he’s helping her.” Ariel whispered so Jordan wouldn’t overhear them speaking about her.
“I’m really sorry you have to deal with this alone, I really wish I could be there for the both of you.” Fiona apologized.
She felt guilty for not being there for her friend, when she had broken up with Jeff and came back home her friends welcomed her with open arms, they helped her get over him and go back to the person she was before she met Jeff. She couldn’t even do that for Jordan.
“Don’t be sorry, Jordan wouldn’t want you to miss out on school because of her anyways,” Ariel reassured, “How’s your first day, have you met your roommate yet?” She asked changing the subject.
“No not yet,” She looked around the empty dorm room, “She should arrive later on today.”
“Jordan still hasn’t killed that stupid spider!” Ariel groaned, “I have to go, but I’ll talk to you later, be safe, and have fun!”
Fiona shook her head as she chuckled, “Alright, bye!” She walked over to her phone and hung up.
She sat on her freshly made bed and grabbed her laptop; her classes started tomorrow and had nothing better to do until then. She signed onto skype and looked through her contacts hoping one of her friends was online, she saw Kenzie’s name and immediately called her. It took her a few rings to answer, Fiona’s face lit up once she saw Kenzie.
She waved frantically at her friend, “Hey!”
“Fiona!” Kenzie shouted, “I miss you so much!” It had only been a week or so since she last saw Fiona but Kenzie missed her dearly, she was so used to seeing her practically every day, she still wasn’t used to her new lifestyle.
“I miss you too,” She smiled, “How are you and Sam?” She asked, she hadn’t gotten a chance to speak to either of them since they left and was wondering how they were doing in Chicago.
“We’re good; we’ve been busy settling into our apartment and stuff but other than that it’s been great. How’s Montreal?” She asked.
“Good I guess, I got here this morning and just finished packing, classes only start tomorrow so I have nothing to do.” Fiona groaned bored out of her mind, this was not the college life she was expecting to have.
“Is that Sam?” Fiona asked when she noticed a brunette walk by.
“No, that’s Paulina, hey come say hi.” Kenzie instructed her friend.
Paulina walked over and stood over Kenzie’s shoulder, “Hey, I’m Paulina, you must be Kayla, or Violet, or Ariel, or Fiona, or Jordan.”
“I’m Fiona.” She laughed.
“Well it’s nice to meet you; Kenzie and Sam have told me so much about you.” She smiled sweetly.
“Likewise.” Fiona lied, truth was she had never heard anything about her and had no idea who she was or how she knew Sam and Kenzie.
Fiona waited for Paulina to leave before she asked, “Okay who was that?” She laughed.
“She’s Corey Crawford’s girlfriend, fiancé actually.” Kenzie corrected herself, they had first met Paulina when they came to Chicago back in April, and they had become really great friends and were now sharing an apartment.
“Oh, she seems nice,” Fiona shrugged, “Kenz I have to go.” She spoke quickly once she heard her dorm room being unlocked.
She said her goodbyes to Kenzie and shut her laptop; she sat neatly on her bed as the door swung open, she heard a bit of struggling before her roommate appeared before her out of breath from carrying her suitcases.
Fiona got up from her bed, “Here let me help you.” She offered, she walked out into the hallway and grabbed the remaining luggage and helped move it into their room.
“Thank you, I’m Caroline.” She introduced herself; she sat down on her bed giving herself a moment to breathe.
“I’m Fiona; I hope you don’t mind that I took this side of the room, I wasn’t sure which side you’d want so I just picked.” She spoke gesturing to her side of the room that was currently occupied with all of her belongings.
“It doesn’t matter to me,” Caroline shrugged, “Have you been here long?” She asked.
“About an hour or so, I’ve been bored out of my mind there’s nothing to do.” Fiona groaned and fell back onto her bed.
“You’re bored?” She asked in disbelief, “Think about all the parties going on tonight, all the cute boys you could hook up with. I personally wouldn’t because I have a boyfriend, but think of all the possibilities.”
“College parties,” Fiona smiled to herself, “I’m in.”
