One Shots
Alex Galchenyuk
The gazebo was lit by colorful, shining lanterns, softly swaying in the warm summer breeze. By now, the tables had cleared and everyone from the main tent had joined you and Alex in the gazebo.
He held your hand, lovingly, tenderly, as you waited nervously for that dance to start, the one dance leading to the rest of your life. He was so handsome;you smiled at him adoringly. His eyes blazed with desire, having waited so long and patiently to make you his.
When you heard those opening strains of “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait, you smiled, eyes closed, a tear of joy seeping through your closed lashes. This song meant so much to you: it was your parent’s first dance at their wedding, the song that Alex chose specifically to be played in the background as he knelt on one knee and asked you to marry him because he knew it was your favorite.
He pulled you onto the dance floor underneath the shimmering, faded lights. Slowly, you swayed to the music, Alex’s hands on your waist, yours around his neck. You let out a sniffle, all your dreams coming true in that single moment.
I cross my heart and promise to
Give all I’ve got to give to make all your dreams come true.
In all the world you’ll never find a love as true as mine.
And if along the way we find a day it starts to storm,
You’ve got the promise of my love to keep you warm.
In all the world you’ll never find a love as true as mine,
A love as true as mine.
You stopped in the middle of the dance floor as the song and the dance ended, guests cheering. A few more tears leaked out, and Alex tipped your chin up to him, gently brushing them away with his thumb.
"Hush, baby, it’s alright," he assured, gazing into your eyes with his blue orbs. "You’re so beautiful, Mrs. Galchenyuk."
He kissed you, right then, right there in the middle of the dance floor, and your whole world stopped for that one perfect moment in time.
