One Shots
Jacob Markstrom
"Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, thanks Coach, I got it, yeah, bye…" you could hear Jacob muttering on the phone, and when you peeked around the corner you saw him hit the ‘End Call’ button on his cell. Sighing, he put his phone down and sat on the bed, gazing out the window.
He looked up as you walked into your bedroom. “Babe, I’ve got some news for you- us,” he corrected. “I’ve been traded. To Vancouver, for- for Roberto Luongo.”
"Oh, hon," was all you could say, pulling him into a hug. You had news for him too, but that could wait.
"At least Eddie’s up there; I’ll know someone on the team then." He smiled from the corner of his mouth, pushing himself up off the bed and scanning the room. "I guess I better start packing, then."
"Wait, Jake, before you go, I’ve got some news for you- us," you smiled, echoing his previous statement. "It’s official, I’m pregnant!"
His expression didn’t change for a second, like he was shocked, but then his mouth broadened into a beaming grin, and he picked you up and spun you around. “Babe, that’s great news!” He kissed you on the top of your head. “A lot of the guys in Vancouver have little kids, according to
Eddie. At least younger ones; Baby Markstrom will fit right in!”
It was good to see him so excited, but that didn’t change the fact that his flight left in a few hours for Vancouver.
"Jacob," you whispered, still in his embrace. "Packing, remember?"
He quickly let go, cheeks pink, still excited and grinning. “Oh, right, sorry!”
