One Shots

Beau Bennett (2)

Crosby hoisted the Stanley Cup above his head, cheering. Beau was smiling ear to ear, and couldn’t believe they’d won, he’d won. It had been Beau’s goal that lifted them 2-1, late in the third, his goal that had secured for the Penguins the most coveted prize in hockey.

Crosby handed the Cup to Beau, and Beau grinned, raising it overhead. He finally got to enjoy the sensation of lifting the hardware so prized and rare that he had dreamed of since he was a kid.

Beau passed the Cup to Geno, still grinning. Crosby pulled him over to the media, calling you down from the crowd and announcing that Beau had something to say.

You were escorted to the red carpet by the pedestal Lord Stanley’s trophy had been set upon before being collected by Sid; there, Beau stood in front, waiting for you, Crosby behind him. Sid had somehow managed to get all the cameras focused on you and Beau.

Beau took something off from around his neck, clasping it in his hands. “I’ve known you for a long, long time, and you never fail to amaze me. Without your support throughout all my injuries and seasons in the NHL, I wouldn’t be here today to bring the Cup Home.” He paused, transferring whatever he had into one hand and reaching behind so scratch his neck, almost shyly. “I promised my team that if I scored at all during the playoffs, or if we won, I had to tell you something.” You could see Sid nudging him, mouthing “Hurry up and tell her!"

He looked up again, this time kneeling on one knee, still in full hockey gear. “I promised them I would propose, so here goes. I love you so, so much, and I can’t imagine a life without you. Will you marry me?” he asked, tears gleaming in his eyes as he opened his hand to reveal a beautiful ring on a silver chain.

A tear of joy dribbled down your cheek, and you hugged him as hard as you could. “Yes!”
