One Shots

Eddie Lack (2)

You found him as soon as they stepped off the plane. Eddie looked tired, exhausted even. You didn’t blame him; it had been a long road trip- six games in 9 days. All the pressure had been placed on him as soon as Roberto Luongo, his best friend, had been traded away. It was starting to wear down on Eddie, and you could visibly see it.

"Hey babe," you smiled, hugging him. He didn’t say anything, only hugging you back with a lot less strength than usual. It certainly wasn’t his usual bear hug, and he wasn’t goofing off with his teammates like he normally did, either. Something was off.

He had said nothing by the time you got into the car. You were the first to say anything. “Eddie, what’s wrong?” you asked.

He stayed silent, only answering with a halfhearted shrug. “Come on,” you pressed. “We’ve been together over a year; I know something’s wrong, you can talk to me.” Yet he didn’t answer, instead staring out the passenger window into the overcast-darkened sky.

You waited, and minutes later he let out a sigh and finally spoke. “You know, I really missed you.”

"I know." The corner of your mouth lifted into a half-smile, and you quickly glanced his way before turning back and staring at the long road ahead. "I really missed you too."
