James Neal
“I can’t believe it, James! We’ve been together how long and now you cheat on me with some woman!?” you screeched at your boyfriend. James just stood there, only flinching when you raised your voice.
“Look, it’s not like that,” he said, almost calmly, as if trying to placate you. “That’s my cousin Melody. I hadn’t seen her since she moved to Seattle.”
“Oh yeah, suuure,” you muttered, arms crossed and eyes narrowed. You didn’t believe him.
“I just took her out to lunch so we could catch up, since she’s only here for a couple days on business.” James gazed at you pleadingly. “I would never cheat on you, I promise. I’d never, ever want to hurt you, no matter what you think of me,” he added. His tone softened, but you didn’t. “Ask the guys if really you want.”
You just stared at him. After a standoff lasting several minutes, with you glaring daggers at him, and his eyes pleading with you to forgive him, you gave up. “Fine, I forgive you- this time,” you said, adding the last part quickly. James took a cautious step towards you, and pulled you in close for a hug, though you remained rigid. He must have felt it, because he ran his fingers over your shoulders lightly, massaging the tension out of them.
After a few minutes, you were almost ready to forget the whole fight ever happened. “I’m sorry I hurt you like that, making you think I cheated on you,” he whispered quietly. “I’m so, so sorry. I’ll never do that again, I promise.”
You just sighed, pressing yourself a little closer to his body. You yawned, suddenly remembering how late it really was. “Let’s go to bed,” you suggested tiredly, pulling away and heading towards his bedroom.
James sounded slightly surprised when he asked, “So I’m not in the doghouse tonight?”
You turned around, giving him a daring look. “Don’t push it,” you suggested. He just laughed and followed you to bed.
