Ifs and Maybes

maybe that's the way i should go

Maddy took her time getting ready before heading off to the UC. She put on a pair of slim fitting jeans, cute ankle boots, and a low-cut loose fitting top that hung off of one shoulder. She made sure to throw on her jersey before she curled her hair, and once it was hair sprayed in place, she swiped a dull red lipstick and applied light mascara and eyeliner.

It didn’t take much to make her look like a model, although she refused to believe the compliments and praises she had received on numerous occasions on her beauty.

With one final look in the mirror, she was satisfied with her appearance. Grabbing her purse and keys, she made her way out to her car and began her drive to the arena. The parking lot was relatively packed and after bing directed to an open spot, Maddy hurried to will-call to grab her ticket and then into the arena so she wouldn’t be late for warm-ups.

Since she was a little girl, it was always a tradition whenever she went to a hockey game to go down to the glass and watch warm-ups. She always admired the players from the afar, but now that she had permanently captured the attention of one of them, it made the tradition even more special.

She double checked her ticket and realized that Pat had gotten her a seat right at the glass next to the Hawks' penalty box.

The things I would do to you in the sin bin.

Her cheeks turned a soft shade of red at the memory of Pat uttering that to her during an open family skate day for the team while they were dating. She had a feeling that he had chosen that particular seat on purpose. That sly dog, she thought.

Just as she took her seat, the boys skated onto the ice. Most of the guys took notice of her as they skated by and gave her some sort of acknowledgement. Pat, of course, tapped the glass in front of her with his stick and winked.

Warm-ups flew by and it wasn’t long until the puck dropped. The boys battled long and hard and were triumphant in the end, thanks to a pair of goals by the captain himself late in the second. As the final minute of the game winded down, Maddy stood and pounded her hands against the glass. She was just as excited about their win as the boys were, if not more.

The game ended in a shutout and while everyone stampeded towards the exit to return to their cars, Maddy took a detour and ended up down by the locker room. She waited in a small area with the other wives and girlfriends of the players and even made small talk with the ones she got along with.

Nearly fourty-five minutes later, the room had cleared out and she was the only one left waiting for her significant other. Pat finally walked out and Maddy froze for a second as she took in his appearance before she stood to greet him. His hair was slightly wet, either from sweat or taking a shower, and she wanted nothing more than to run her hair through his curls. He was wearing a suit and tie, with his dress shirt unbuttoned at the top just enough to show a bit of his chest. He was definitely eye-candy. Her eye-candy.

“Congrats on another win, Pat,” she grinned as he walked towards her. His own smile grew and, picking up his pace, he hurried towards her and swept her off of her feet. Maddy let out a short squeal as he spun her around twice and when he placed her back on her feet he captured her lips in sweet, soft kiss.

“I’m just glad you were here to see it,” he happily replied. He took her hand in his and guided her out towards the player’s parking lot, where his own car was parked.

He didn’t let go of her hand until they got to his car.

“I’ll drop you off at your car and then meet you back at home? We can just take my car to dinner from there,” he offered. Maddy nodded her head and that’s exactly what they did.

Soon enough, they were both on their way to a relatively expensive restaurant just outside of Chicago.

“Reservation under Kane, please,” Pat told the hostess and put his arm loosely around Maddy’s waist, pulling her closer to him.

The hostess’ face brightened in recognition. She fumbled with two menus and said, “Of course Mr. Kane, right this way.”

Pat always seemed to have that kind of affect on women.

When they reached their table, Pat jetted ahead of Maddy and pulled out her chair for her.

She kissed his cheek before taking a seat and muttered a ‘thank you’. This was a side of Pat she hadn’t seen in so long and, quite frankly, she had missed it.

“Can I get you two started off with something to drink?”

The waitress seemed overly perky because it was the Patrick Kane she had the honor of serving. She offered him more attention than she normally gave her customers, but not enough to blatantly disrespect Maddy. She was simply an overly excited fan and Maddy understood that.

“I’ll have an iced tea, please,” Maddy politely asked. The waitress scribbled down her drink request and then turned to Pat.

“And for you?”

Pat flipped through the drink section of the menu before answering, “I’ll have a Jack and coke please.”

Shocking.

It's hard to deal with alcoholics... Sometimes they need to hit rock bottom before they can get better... Some people still keep drinking. I'm curious to see what she does, even if Jon talks to him, will it be a permanent fix or a temporary fix? I think it's one of those things that he needs to see for himself, you know? Having heard her admit that or something.... Anyways awesome chapter and I can't wait for more.

So good!
