Prove It To Me - Continued

Closet Habs Fan (Chapter 14)

"Ok don't freak out...."
Usually whenever someone says that, it means you're guaranteed to freak out. I warily look at Sid as the team pools into the bus. We just got off the plane in Montreal and are heading off to our hotel.
"My mom and dad flew in from Cole Harbour for the game tomorrow. I'd like you to meet them," he says sweetly.
His tone of voice doesn't help. I instantly panic. Kyle was the only serious relationship I'd ever been in, and his parents were terrible, just like Kyle. They didn't like me, and I didn't like them. I know Sid's parents aren't like that, but I can't help but worry they won't like me either, or they'd rather have Sid focus on hockey, like Bylsma.
Sid, sensing I'm worried, "you haven't said anything, it worries me when you do that. Please tell me what you're thinking."
"I'm just... I... what if they don't like me?"
"They'll love you. I know they will, that's why I want you to meet them."
We find a seat at the back of the bus, like always. There's so much commotion no one can hear us.
"Kyles parents hated me. I'm just so scared yours will too," I whisper while looking down at my hands.
Sid gently moves my head up to face him, "I really don't understand how anyone could hate you. Kyle is a douche bag, where do you think he got it from? Obviously his parents were too. You seem to like me; my parents are great, and they'll think you're great too."
I smile, in fact I even start to cry; tears of joy of course. Never in my life has any guy I've ever been with been so supportive and caring. Sid kisses me, right in front of all the guys. They hoot and holler, but he doesn't mind, and neither do I.

As I unpack our belongings in the hotel room, Sid Googles how to get to his parents hotel.
"Why aren't they staying here in this hotel?" I ask.
"Because that's weird with the team and you here. They don't mind staying somewhere else anyway, this place is expensive."
"Don't you pay for them?"
"Of course I do, but they don't like taking money from me. They feel guilty that I have to pay for their trips to my games, so they always pick cheaper places to stay even though it's unnecessary."
Hearing that makes me smile, they have a soon-to-be billionaire son, yet still they try to stay at cheaper hotels so he doesn't have to pay too much. I'm becoming less and less nervous about meeting them.
"Aha! Found the address. You ready to go? We can take a taxi, it's not far from here."
"I'm ready!" I say, suddenly excited.

*knock knock knock*
My heart rate quickens as I'm haunted by memories of Kyle again.
"Hello!" a kind smiling face appears from behind the door.
It must be Sid's mom. She squeezes him in a big hug with joyful giggles.
Sid looks a little embarrassed as he pulls away, "Mom this is Rebecca. Rebecca, this is my mom."
"Nice to meet you Ma'am.," I reach out to shake her hand.
She rejects the handshake and goes in for a hug. It feels warm and caring, like Sid's hugs.
"You can call me Tina," she says with a smile," so honey I didn't know you were bringing along a girl. She is gorgeous."
I blush, and then notice what must be Sid's dad, coming up behind Tina.
"You say something 'bout a girl?" he questions.
Now Sid is blushing too.
"Hey Dad, this is Rebecca."
"Hello, I'm Troy," he says with a nod.
"Well come on in!" Tina says waving her hands into the room.
"So where you from Rebecca?" Troy asks.
"Pittsburgh," I see Tina smile ear to ear with glee.
"Do you usually come out for Canadiens games?" I question, breaking the impeding awkward silence.
"Only sometimes, but we like to because it's closest to home and it's always neat seeing your son play his favourite childhood team," Tina smiles.
"'Favourite childhood team?'" I say in surprise.
"Oh yes, he was their biggest fan. He doesn't like to admit it, but he's always extra excited to play in Montreal."
"Moooom!" Sid whines.
Ignoring his pleads, Troy pulls out a picture from his wallet of Sid as a young child in a Habs jersey.
"Awwwwww!" I cry with my hands over my mouth.
I quickly pull out my phone to take a picture of it before Sid can protest.
"Delete that now!" he tries to grab my phone.
I pull it away.
"We've got a little closet Habs fan over here!" I tease.
"That was a long time ago!"
"Then it shouldn't matter," I argue.
After a couple more hugs, and some continuous pouting from Sid, we leave the hotel to go to dinner.

Notes

Thank you guys so much for continuing to read the story. I'm sorry if my writing style has changed a little since chapters 1-12. It was almost a year since I'd updated, but I hope it's more of an improvement, if anything. Please rate the story for more chapters! Also leave comments if you'd like on what you think so far of the continuation. I'd really love to hear maybe from some of you that read the original "Prove It To Me" while I was still writing it like 10 months ago, that would be cool if there are any who did. Be sure to subscribe so you know when new chapters are out!
