Proving Everyone Wrong

Fifteen

Meg's POV

True to his word, Jon knocked on my door at 7:30 a.m. I opened the door and glared at him, earning a laugh. I couldn’t help but notice how his face lit up when he laughed and how his laughed seemed to fill the whole room. I mentally slapped myself. Like seriously Meg, What the actual fuck? He’s your captain, get your shit together.

“I can tell you’re a morning person, huh, Sunshine?” he said leaning against my door frame and watching me as I grabbed the last of my things.

“Sunshine, eh? Given up on Little Red already Cap.?” I chided back as I locked my door.

He slung his arm casually around my shoulder and pulled me tight for a quick hug before releasing me from his strong grip and leaving his arm draped over my shoulder as we got into the elevator. He looked down at me, “It’s not that I’ve given up on it, it’s just that I might give you a nickname that’s just for me and you.” When I looked up at him he had returned his focus to looking straight ahead. I smiled to myself and said fine, “Fine, but if it’s a really shitty nickname, I’m calling you JoJo, in front of people. By in front of people I mean I’ll yell it at you from the other side of the grocery store and in interviews and in front of all the guys and stuff like that.” He looked down at me in pure horror and as the elevator doors opened he said, “Trust me, with that kind of a threat I’ll make sure you like it.”

I was still grinning as we got into his Mercedes. He turned to look at me and opened his mouth as if to say something but then thought different of it and turned back and started the car up. Almost the entire ride was spent arguing about the radio station. By the time we had gotten to the arena and parked, Jon and I had practically broken his radio. I got out of the car and grinned at him and he scowled at me before breaking into a grin and winking.

“Seriously, Meg I don’t know what I’m going to do with you.” He said laughing and shaking his head.

“Well, you promised me that you would help me unpack boxes today so that’s what you’re going to do with me today.” I said as we started into the arena.

“What you thought I’d forget?”

I shrugged, “guys are guys.”

He raised his eyebrows and looked at me stunned, “and what exactly do you mean by that?”

I laughed and said, “Oh, nothing!” before skipping ahead of him. He shook his head and quickly followed after me.

We walked into the locker room and got a bunch of hellos from the guys. We all got ready and headed out onto the ice for Training Camp Day 2. We were running through some drills and I was standing along the boards with some of the guys waiting for it to be our turns. We were watching as Kaner went to shoot the puck on Crawford and went five-hole when he clearly should’ve gone for the top shelf. A couple of the guys yelled to Corey telling him it was a great save and some chirped Pat for not making the better decision in where to shoot the puck. When he skated up I turned to him and said, “Should’ve gone top shelf, Princess.” He scowled at me and a bunch of the guys laughed. For the rest of the day most of the boys referred to Patrick as Princess.

As Jon and I were heading out Kaner came up behind me and picked me up and continued to walk at the pace we had been walking at while carrying me down the hall. Jon looked down and raised an eyebrow curiously.

“So what are you doing tonight?” he said looking up at Jon.

“Umm, just helping Meg unpack. Why? What about you?”

“Well, I don’t know who this Meg person is but I’m just going to go home and relax.”

Jon laughed and I scoffed, “I think you would like Meg if you met her.”

“Well, maybe you should introduce us sometime, Jon.”

“Come to think of it, I’d rather not. I think you two might end up killing each other or something.” Jon said shaking his head. We had arrived at Jon’s car. Kaner dropped me and said, “Yeah, you’re right. I might have to teach her a lesson or two.” He winked at me and headed to his car. I turned to Jon and spoke loud enough for Patrick to hear, “Yeah, I don’t think I want to meet him either, he sounds like a pompous ass.” Jon started cracking up and we both heard Kaner yell “HEY!!!” from the other side of the garage which only made us laugh harder.

***

“Ok we seriously need to find a radio station that we can agree on before we break your radio.” I said as we walked into my apartment and put the Chinese food down on the table. Jon closed the door behind him and came into my kitchen.

“Nahh I think you just need a better taste in music.” He said grinning at me. I rolled my eyes and handed him his food. We finished quickly and started unpacking the boxes in my living room. I had unpacked the kitchen the night before while the guys put the furniture together. Most of the boxes in my living room were filled with books and pictures that we placed on the shelves and on the walls. He picked up a picture of my mom and two sisters hanging out at the beach and asked me who they were. I pointed to my mom and then to each of my sisters who were both buried almost completely in the sand of the Jersey Shore.

“Do you miss them?” he asked looking up at me.

“All the time. I miss getting to see them every day and I miss being there for them while they grow up.” I sighed, “But I wouldn’t want to be in New Jersey even if I was in college this year.”

He looked up at me a little confused, “Why don’t you want to be in New Jersey?”

“I’ve lived there my entire life. I just want out. There isn’t much that goes on in Jersey when we have New York City right there and everything. It’s just a pretty boring place, or at least the portion that I grew up in was boring.”

He nodded understanding. We kept unpacking boxes and he pulled out my yearbook from my freshman year in high school. He looked up at me with a mischievous grin.

“What? Wait, what do you have in your hands? Is that my yearbook?” he nodded and started to open it.

“Don’t even think about trying to find me!” I said trying to get the book away from him. He jumped up and ran out of the room still flipping through the pages. I ran after him and somehow got the book back. I turned around and started running back into the living room with Jon right behind me. He picked me up and threw me on the couch and tried to get the book back. We were laughing and fighting over the book and he ended up falling off the couch and taking me with him. I dropped the book. When our laughs subsided we both came to the realization of the position we were in; Jon was on his back and I was laying on top off him looking down at him. We both sat up quickly and separated. For a moment it was awkward silence and then I looked up at the clock.

“It’s getting pretty late, and we unpacked a lot of boxes already. Thanks a lot for your help.”

“Yeah, sure no problem.” He replied getting to his feet. I followed him to the door.

“Thanks again for your help.” I smiled up at him.

“No problem, see you tomorrow.” He smiled and headed down the hall. I closed the door and leaned against it. I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I had been holding and slid down until I hit the floor.

“Two days. Two days Meg and you’re already falling for your Captain.” I mumbled to myself before putting my head in my hands.

@RedRoselaura

I've suffered from some serious writers block. Additionally, I've been insanely busy. I'm going to try to work on it more when I get the file on my new computer. Thanks for the comment. It definetly motivated me, I kind of figured this story was off of everybody's radar by now and that no one would care if I continued or stopped. so thank you. And I will definetly get back to working on this :)
