Christmas Spirit
Since our fight and our few flirtatious dates Sidney and I have been getting along great. It’s now time for the team’s Christmas party and appearances! I’m so excited to experience what they do every year. Today the boys are going to the children’s hospital to give presents to the sick kids who will be spending their Christmas here. I was standing outside the hospital in my winter gear with my microphone in hand, and the snow gently falling. “Today is a special day for the Penguins as they come here today to hand out gifts to the children at the childrens hospital here in Pittsburgh. It’s important to the players to give back, to the community and they all enjoy doing it. In just a few minutes the players will begine to deliver gifts to the kids and make their dreams come true. The Pens doing this boosts their spirits, gives them a chance to smile and gives them a memory they can remember when or if they grow older. Let’s check it out!”
When we got there, they team was given Santa hats to where, I even got one because I was there to document it all. The team was in groups. In one group there was Fleury, Max and Geno. In another there was Sidney, Letang, and Jordan. We went to the older kids first and gave out presents. They were all very happy to see how the kids were reacting. One boy who was 11 and battling cancer was so star struck and said his goal was to be a ladies’ man like Max. It was so funny. “One day you will little man, and when it happens, we’ll go find chicks together, okay?” he winked. It was so funny. “Only Max,” Jordan laughed shaking his head.
The press was there too, which was nice to show that they do care. On our way down to the baby/toddler centre I asked Sidney, "So how are you enjoying it so far?" "I'm loving it. Where are we going to now?" "The baby/toddler centre," "Oh okay," "I think I might cry here," "Why?" "Because I hate seing babies sick and stuff. It doesn't make me feel right seeing them struggle," "Aw. You’re so caring. Don't worry, they'll feel better," he said throwing his arm around me, rubbing it with his hand. I smiled. Walking in was surreal. These kids were adorable! And Sidney was great with them. His baby voice is cute too, it gave me a laugh. But I couldn't take it anymore, I had to cry. These kids were so adorable and so strong at such a young age.
One little girl was in such good spirits and was a fan of the boys, but wanted to talk to me. “Hi Brittany!” she smiled waving. “Hi! What’s your name?” “Darcy,” “Hi Darcy, it is so nice to meet you. How old are you?” “I’m 4,” “Wow, you’re so mature for a 4 year old, and you’re so cute too” “People tell me,” she giggled. I just wanted to give her a big hug. “Can I ask you a question?” she asked me so seriously. “Of course you can, what is it?” She leaned over and whispered as if it was a secret. “Are you and Sidney Crosby dating?” “Promise not to tell anyone?” she nodded eagerly. “We are.” “Really!?” she gasped getting excited. “Yup. But you can’t tell anyone, okay? It’s our little secret.” She nodded smiling. “Can I tell you something?” she asked. “Go ahead.” “I think you two are gonna get married one day.” “You think so?” “Yup. You guys are too cute!” “Aw, thank you. I hope so too.” We smiled. I even interviewed some of the kids and parents, and it was so fun for everyone.
This afternoon the Penguins are having a family open skate. Of course I got to go on the ice, which had been a while for me, and got to do my segment. Max had skated so fast past me I lost balance and almost fell; thankfully Sidney was there to catch me. “My hero!” I joked, as he skated holding me like a bride. Of course the cameras were rolling, but I had no clue until someone pointed it out. “Well that’s gonna make the gag reel.” I joked. He placed me down carefully and we skated around, watching the kids skate around with their daddies or their teammates. Sidney and I skated arm and arm chit chatting away. Our camera’s were off and there was no press, so we got to be somewhat comfortable. “It is so cute seeing how happy all the kids are. They are all so adorable,” I sighed. “Do you want kids one day?” Sidney asked. “Of course. You? Are we really having this conversation right now?” “Looks that way. And yes, I would love them.” “Aw, you’re too cute!” I cooed. “So is your nephew,” he pointed his eyes over to Cookie trying to teach Camden how to skate. “I’m so happy for them, ya know?” “Yeah. It’s hard to imagine Cookie getting with a girl, and making an impression on her son.” He poked. It was hilariously cute!
The next night was the team’s Christmas party. The Penguins association was hosting a party for the team and their girls at a very fancy reception hall. I decided on a short black dress with a few thick gold stripes, similar to a dress Kim Kardashian wore, heels and my hair in curls. I’m pretty nervous. There are no camera’s tonight, and no press will be there, but not many people know about Sid and I yet. He was even picking me up from my house. When he rang the doorbell I got butterflies. I ran to the door as best as I could in my heels and opened it to see a very sexy Sidney Crosby. He was wearing a suite, with white shirt and a black tie. “Hello!” I said absolutely taken away by his beauty. “Are you okay? You seem flustered,” he gave a strange look and kissed me. “I’m fine.” “You sure?” “How would you feel if you saw your extremely hot boyfriend come to the door looking sexy as hell?” “Well I wouldn’t know, but I feel it right now with my girlfriend.” He whispered seductively into my ear. “If you keep this up we won’t be going anywhere.” I giggled. “Part of me wouldn’t mind.” He said as we walked out.
It was a great night and we all had a great time dancing the night away. When we arrived there was a mini red carpet that we all got to pose on. I had a pic taken by myself and one with Sidney. Cam was our photographer and I knew he wouldn’t send it anywhere. The décor was nice and there was a young and hip vibe. I was under the arm of Sidney the whole night. Nobody gave a rats ass and if they did, I know Sidney would tell them upfront. Dan had come over at one point and asked, “So are you two official tonight?” “Well, we were both dateless,” Sidney said very quickly. “I see, if you didn’t say I would’ve thought that you two were an actual item.” “Really?” I asked sipping my coke. “Oh yeah. Anyway, just making sure, I would want to know if Sid was seeing anyone. Have a good night, we’ll catch up later.” When he left Sidney said, “I’m sorry.” “It’s fine. But we will have to tell them sooner or later." "How about after the season if we make it?" "Deal." I smiled as we raised our glasses.
