End of Season Special
“I’m Brittany Campbell and it is that time of year again. Time for the Penguins to go their separate ways,” I began to say my intro to our end of season special. “This season was a lot for the players, enduring a lot of struggles, and they were able to push through it. But before we get into that, let’s introduce our line up for the show.” A little segment went on, introducing the players that were on the special. Matt Cooke, Maxime Talbot, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brent Johnson, Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Chris Kunitz, Kris Letang, Sidney Crosby, and Mario and Dan.
“And we’re back from the break with the name twins, Chris and Kris. The two of you seemed pretty shy this season when it came to the camera’s and we didn’t get many funny moments captured on our cameras, but we did manage to get this one never before seen video of the two of you, let’s take a look,” A video of the two boys popped up when they decided to have a rap battle in the dressing room. The rest of the team was in a circle and they were going along with it. Jordan was holding up speakers with a beat blaring. The video ended. “How do you feel after watching this video I’m sure none of you knew existed?” “I don’t know what to say,” Kunitz laughed. “Kris, you look speechless, what’s up?” “I am at a loss of words right now,” he shook his head laughing. “How did this whole thing start?” “Well I think Letang over here thinks he’s Eminem-“ “No, it was not. I was listening to Sid rap in the dressingroom and it brought me back to some old school rap songs. Kunitz got jealous and decided to hate on me, so it was on.” “Who do you think won?” “I’m not sure, we were both pretty funny.” Kunitz laughed. “We’ll see what the teammates think right after the break.”
“And we’re back with the man Cookie, and Brent. The two quiet ones as everyone assumes,” “Yes, we are,” Brent agreed. “One thing that the team does is go to charity events, and the two of you seem to be great with kids. Here’s a clip of what happened when the pair decided to ambush a birthday party for a contest winner.” The video clip goes like this. Matt and Brent walked into a party wearing jeans and their jerseys. After being there for a while, Matt asked, “Is there anything you guys wanna do?” So the kids wrapped the two together in wrapping paper and they were stuck, sitting back to back on the floor. “That is one of my favourite clips we have I think,” I laughed. “It was actually a good time, I know I had a good day that day.” Brent replied. “How long did it take you two to get out?” “Well after the kids laughed at us and watched us struggle they unwrapped us,” Matt laughed. “Matt, you seem to have a pretty big mini fan in my family. He absolutely loves you and he misses you terribly. And we currently have Camden on webcam, hi Camden!” “Hi aunt Brittany!” “Camden, guess who we have on webcam with me,” “Who?” “We have Brent Johnson and Cookie.” “Cookie!” he yelled. “And where are you honey?” “in a room.” “Do you wanna say hi to Cookie?” “Yeah!” “Say hi!”
As planned, Camden ran into the studio. Not everyone knows this, but my cousin Shannon and Matt are dating and Camden worships Matt. “Cookie!” he yelled with his arms wide open, wearing a jersey. Matt leaped out of his seat and squatted down, waiting for him. They hugged, then Camden sat inbetween the two on the couch. “Is this a nice surprise?” “Oh yeah.” The two of them said in unison. “Would you care to explain to the viewers the relationship you two have with each other?” “Well I am dating Camden’s mom Shannon, who is your cousin.” “Yup! It’s a family affair. Camden, do you like Cookie?” “I love Cookie.” “Does he ever call you Matt?” Brent asked, making everyone laugh. “No,” “I like the name Cookie, cuz I like cookies,” he replied. “Before the break, we’ll leave you with a brief journalism segment from Camden himself.” It was so cute to see how excited he was to see Matt and Matt to see him.
“Wasn’t that cute? I think so, but you wanna know what’s even cuter? Our next two guests and their bromance,” “No, no, no. You’re the cute one,” Max winked. “Oh Max, always the charmer. Max and Marc-Andre, Marc-Andre and Max, which was sounds better?” I asked trying to compose myself. “It doesn’t matter, as long as we’re together,” Flower smirked. “You stole the words right out of my mouth sweetheart,” Max joked, patting his face. “On a serious note, the two of you are the best of friends. Never in my life have I ever seen two guys, let alone hockey players, with such a bond as you two have.” “Why thank you.” Max laughed. “Why do you two seem to get along so well?” “I think it’s because we are so similar and yet different,” Marc started. “Yeah. We have the same interests and we enjoy the same activities,” “We both love watching movies, playing hockey, going out,” “meeting pretty girls,” “and so many other things.” “We call it the French Connection. Seriously though, our friendship is so strong and we love spending time together. Our bromance is way too strong to break.” “Let’s take a look of some of the bromance.”
Clips of the two of the boys started to clip with the song, “The Two Of Us” playing in the background. It showed clips of them before a game, teaching each other how to slow dance, fighting, a whole lotta hugging, staring into each others eyes at dinner, and joking around. It ended with a few hilarious moments with them. “This shirt or this one?” Max asked Marc in a hotel room. “The pink one, it’ll brighten up your day and appearance.” “Only you can brighten up my day Flower,” he pointed laughing. Another clip was of Marc in his car talking on the phone with Max. “Did you get the cake?” Max asked. “Yeah. I decided to get the chocolate, because I know you don’t like lemon and that’s the only two types they had,” “Aw, thanks man.” “Anytime. I’ll be at your house in 10.” “See you then.” The final clip was the team at a team dinner at Geno’s house. Max threw his napkin off his lap and got down on one knee and proposed to Marc. Marc sat on his knee and they joked around. “What a beautiful montage of memories.” Max laughed “That pink shirt really did bring out your personality.” “Ah, the love never ends. We’ll be back.”
After interviewing Mario and Dan, it was time to interview Jordan, Geno and Sid. “And we’re back with our injured teammates. How was it ending the season unable to play?” “Sucked.” Geno said straight forward. It was hilarious. “He’s right. But what can you do?” Jordan agreed. “Jordan, you had a more recent injury at the end of the season and started out rough, but Geno and Sid, it seemed like one thing after another. And you three seemed to cause a stir in the room during practices and games. Take a look.” There were videos of them pulling pranks, getting off task and causing ruckus. There was a video where Sidney was singing into the ultrasound machine that they were using on Jordan. A clip of Malkin pretending he was a doctor trying to cure Sid. And the pranks they all pulled. “Well that’s all I have to say for the season, and I think the rest of the players and staff to do too. Again, Doug wishes he were here and we wish him well during his surgery and recovery. Thank you to all who tuned in all season to the games and this show and thank you for making this year a huge success for everyone involved with the Penguins and Pens TV. Once the camera shut off it was a wrap. Everyone started applauding and I felt tears creep up on me. “Aw, that’s our girl!” Max yelled, giving me a hug. I received hugs from everyone. Doug, who was supposed to be having surgery tomorrow came in and wheeled a huge cake in. We cut the cake and we said a speech. During my turn, I cried. “Words cannot express my gratitude for everything this year. I have been blessed with tons of opportunity. I had a blast working with you all and I love you all so much! Here’s to a great second season, see you all at training camp and thanks again!” Sidney slid his arm around me as we all toasted. It was a great way to end the season, being with Doug, my new friends, and my boyfriend.
