Sidney's Apology

“So the Pittsburgh Penguins just faced their first away game yesterday night, and you Brittany were there with the guys on the journey correct?” Doug asked, as we continued filming another show. “Yes I did.” “How were the boys?” “Uh, they were pretty exciting; we went to dinner together, uh, hung out at the hotel, spent time at the arena and had time on the planes.” “What were they like on the plane?” “Everyone was pretty scattered actually, and they sort of did their own thing.”

“Though those at the front play our PSP’s.” Jordan Staal, our guest, piped up. “Are your teammates as competitive with the videogames or the real game?” Doug asked. “The real game they are so much more competitive and focused, but when some of those guys get into it, they get INTO it,” the crowd all burst into laughter, “like, there’s obviously that seriousness that we have when it’s game time, but the videogames we are more rough with each other! Wasn’t it Marc-Andre who had to sit on Sid when he was winning, so he would win?” he asked me. “Yeah! He got right out of his seat next to Sidney and Marc-Andre squashed him like a pancake! That’s multitasking!” The crowd laughed again. “That’s just how we are; we’re that comfortable that we could do that to each other without it being totally weird.” “Can you just feel the love? We’ll be back after the break with a few behind the scenes videos of the players during their away game, right after the break!” Doug said.

After filming I went home and relaxed. The weather today was pretty miserable and the fall was approaching way too fast. Regular season starts next week and that is when I really become busy, so I decided to relax. My phone buzzed, it was a message from an unknown number. It said: Hey, it’s Sidney, how are you?. I replied: Good, yourself? And how did you get my number? Sid: I got it from Max, blame him. This has got to be good. I ended up spending the night texting Sidney. He is a really nice guy! We talked about everything and anything, which was so nice. Waking up this morning I prayed that he would talk to me, great, I have a crush on the guy even more than I already did and I barely know him other than what I know.

It was cold in the arena, as always. I was at the arena for another 10:30 practice. Today I had to look formal since I was supposed to be covering the practice. I stood just outside of the dressing room waiting to get some coverage of the guys walking in, and waiting for Cameron and Austin to show up with the camera. I had my back turned to the main entrance to the hall way, watching people set up. “Hey you,” I heard quietly. I turned around seeing Sidney smiling away in a pair of shorts, high socks and a Pittsburgh Penguins hoodie. “Hey, how are ya?” I asked, getting a hug. “I’m good, I’m good. You?” “I’m good thanks, just waiting for Austin and Cameron to get over here with the camera so I can start to work.” “Those guys,” he shook his head laughing. “Litsten, can I talk to you for a second?” “Yeah,” “It’s uh, kinda private,” “Oh, okay, where do you want to go?” “Just follow me,” he said giving his bag to a worker, and leading me somewhere.

He took me to the arena, all the way to the nosebleeds. He took a seat in the middle of the aisle; he looked pretty upset or nervous. Once I took a seat I asked while pulling the sleeve of my sweater over my hands that were freezing, “So what do you want to talk about?” “Well, remember that party at Marc’s a while ago, and our kiss?” he asked looking straight forward, watching the zamboni make its round. “Yeah,” I said nervously. “I just wanted you to know that I am not that kind of guy. I’m not one of those guys who sleeps around and normally does that stuff. I just wanted to apologize for it. I know most girls probably would’ve freaked out by it and thought I was a pig, so I just wanted to say I’m sorry.” He kept looking at my eyes and my feet; I could tell he was uncomfortable. I can’t believe he said that! “Wow, thanks Sidney. That was sweet of you to say. Just remember that I kissed you back, so you shouldn’t feel too bad about it. I understand what emotions go into moments like that. It’s all good. I think it’s awesome that you even apologized to be honest; most guys wouldn’t even say do what you did. Thanks,”

“Your welcome. To be honest I really wanted to tell you sooner but I didn’t find the right time, and seeing as we’re alone,” “All the way up here,” “All the way up here,” he chuckled. “And with that being said, I wanted to ask you if you would go to dinner with me on Friday night?” “That’d be great.” “I’ll talk to you about details, just tell me your schedule and we’ll work it out.” “Cool beans. Can’t wait,” “ Now don’t you have a practice to do?” “Oh right, good question. But don’t you have a practice to cover?” “Shut up,” I laughed as we got up and headed back down to the dressing room.
