“As I’ve said, there really isn’t much we can do for him until he wakes up. We’ve run all the tests, we’re giving him the medicine, it’s pretty much up to him now if he wakes up and if he wants to fight,” The doctor said, relaying all the information about her father to Brooke. She knew what the odds were and had looked at his chart as soon as they had walked into his room. For a doctor’s standpoint, he was pretty much gone, but from a daughter’s standpoint, she wanted to believe that he would open his eyes tomorrow and be ready to run a marathon. They had been there for a little over an hour and Sidney could tell that Brooke was fading fast by the time the doctor had come in to check on her father.

“What was it that I read about his liver scan?” Brooke asked crossing her arms over her chest. The doctor raised his eyebrow at her and smirked a little.

“Well since, you’ve read his chart, is there anything else on there that you want to talk about?” He asked crossing his hands in front of him as he leaned up against the window. She was not in the mood for his smart-ass attitude and was ready to go head to head with him.

“Well I noticed that it took you over half an hour to assess him, even though all the signs of a heart attack were there, I also noticed that you had been ready to administer Temenaphine which if you had taken any care to read his allergies, tends to react the same way in patients who are allergic to Aldicine and could have killed him so thank god a nurse was there for that. Now about the liver scans?” Brooke asked, staring back at the doctor with her arms still crossed. Sidney was ready for Brooke to go full out on him but was surprised and a little scared when she stayed calm but had a bite in her tone. The doctor just nodded his head and chuckled a little bit.

“Where do you work?” He asked, intrigued.

“I don’t work anywhere, now can you please answer my question,” Brooke asked growing impatient.

“There are some spots on his liver that showed up on the CT. We did it twice just incase it was a shadow, but it’s not,” He said still staring directly at her. Brooke took in a deep breath and looked over at her father. “And I wasn’t the doctor who assessed him in the first place, we had a resident in here with me and they made the initial assessment before I stepped in and took over. I was the one who vetoed the drug and the reason it’s stamped half an hour after being admitted is because I wasn’t able to sign it until I had him under control,” he said a little more controlled and level headed. Brooke looked back at him and neither of them said anything. Sidney stood against the wall, trying to gage how she was going to act next but there really wasn’t any way to tell.

“Does my mother know about this?” Brooke asked, letting out a sigh.

“She knows that we were running another test as of this morning, and that I would give her a call once I had the results and was able to look him over, but you’re here now so to answer your question, no she doesn’t know yet,” He said, almost trying to console her. She nodded her head and said thank you before turning to walk out of the room. Sidney turned to look at the doctor and nodded before following her out. She was standing in front of the elevator when he caught up to her and stood, waiting for her to speak first. She didn’t and she got into the elevator, pressing the button for the parking garage.

When they made their way out of the elevator Sidney stopped to pay at the parking machine and Brooke walked slowly to where he had parked. She was lost in her own head at the moment and Sidney really didn’t know how this was going to end.
….

Brooke leaned against the truck and looked down at what she was wearing. She had on baggy ripped jean capris with a white V-neck t-shirt and her grey cardigan that she had been wearing since she had left Switzerland and she began to laugh to herself. She heard the truck doors unlock and she opened the door crawling into her seat and started to hysterically laugh. Sidney climbed in beside her and put his keys in the ignition but didn’t start the engine. She saw his expression through watery eyes and couldn’t help but laugh harder. Her sides were hurting form how hard she was laughing and was having trouble catching her breath.

“Are you okay?” Sidney asked looking at her a little quizzically. She shook her head and started to calm down a bit, still laughing but was to catch her breath.

“No, actually I’m probably the farthest from okay at the moment,” she said still trying to slow down her laughing. “I’ve been wearing the same gross clothes for about a day now, my father has had a massive heart attack and if that wasn’t bad enough he has tumours in his liver,” She said laughing a little bit harder again. Sidney drew in his breath when she said this and really didn’t know what to say.

“Brooke…”

“Also, my mother is having a complete mental break down about this whole thing and wont be able to handle any more bad news, my brother is, I don’t even know what, but I have to sit here and pretend that I’m the strong one when I haven’t even started to pickup the pieces of my life since I left and pretend that I don’t love you anymore ,” she finally got out and started to breathe normally again. Sidney sat there staring at her with a blank expression. She looked over at him and shook her head. “Just,…just forget it Sid. I’m tired and going delirious and-” Sidney grabbed Brooke’s face and rested his lips against hers. She needed a chance to breathe and forget about everything for a second and he was doing exactly that for her.

It was a soft, delicate kiss that left Brooke wanting way more but it was what she needed right there and then. Sidney pulled back slowly but kept his hands on either side of her face rubbing his thumb over her cheekbone. She bit her bottom lip and looked up at him but before she knew it, Sidney had removed his hands from her face and was turning on the truck causing Brooke to sit back in her seat and face forward. She let out a deep breath and tried to collect her thoughts on everything. As they made their way out of the city Brooke took everything in that she had been trying so hard not to miss while being away from Cole Harbour. She saw the old movie theater that her and her friends always used to go to. They drove past the old rec center that they would all go to on Sunday mornings while their parents went and ran errands. She had a lot of good memories about this place and they were creeping their way back into her mind as they continued on. When they got to the part of town that cut off the residential area to the lake area Sidney turned the opposite direction from her parent’s house and headed towards the lake.

“Sid, where are we going, I need to sleep,” Brooke said almost pleading with him to take her home.

“Just trust me, okay?” he said turning to look at her. She could see the hurt behind his eyes knowing that this had a lot to do with her not trusting him to be part of her decision about Switzerland. She nodded and looked back out in front of her, to try and figure out where they were going. They drove for about another ten minutes before Sidney pulled up to a gated house that was rather secluded by trees and bushes and was hidden from the public view.

“This is your house,” Brooke said turning to look at him as he pressed a button on his sun visor and the gate slowly opened. Brooke started to get butterflies in her stomach for the first time since February and she was feeling nervous.

“You need a time out I think,” He said with a very serious look on his face. Brooke looked at him confused and didn’t really know what he meant. He pulled up the driveway and parked in front of the garage, much like he dis in Pittsburgh. She was feeling major déjà vu but pushed it aside once he turned off the ignition. “I think you need time to process everything and you need to sleep, properly, without anyone around you needing you to be there for them.”

“Sidney, I’ve only been home for about four hours now, I can’t really tell my mom that I can’t be there for her right now.” She said starting to get worried.

“Yes you can, and you are. I already let my mom know and she thinks it’s a good idea. She's taking care of your mom and Brother and Nate is helping too. It’s not like you drove from Halifax to get here for your dad, Brooke. You flew part way across the world and you need some time to adjust. You look sick and I worried that you’re going to faint if you don’t eat or drink something soon and sleep for a while.” Brooke leaned back in her seat, processing what he said. She unbuckled her seatbelt and turned to look at him.

“I’m going to sleep. I don’t want to eat anything and I don’t want anything to drink. I just want to sleep,” Brooke said in a very tired voice. Sidney nodded his head, knowing that at this point, that was a battle he would fight later. They both got out of his truck and headed for the front door. Brooke let out a yawn knowing that her body was finally allowing for her to feel just how exhausted she was and she was finding it hard to lift her feet up off of the ground. Once inside she kicked her shoes off behind Sid’s and started to head up the stairs while he still stood in the entry way.

He smiled at her as she continued walking, liking that she was in his house and that she was with him again. He felt his phone vibrating in his hand and looked down at it once she had made it to the top of the stairs. Taylor’s contact information appeared on his screen and he pressed answer before he missed her.
“Hey,’ he said walking towards the kitchen. His house here was very much set up like his house in Pittsburgh but it was a bit smaller and made more like a summer home. It had a cottage feel to it and everything was out in the open.

“Hey, how is everything?” She asked, jumping right to it. He heard her let out a ‘humph’ or air and assumed that she had fallen back to lay on her bed.

“Uh the truth? Not very good,” head said leaning over the counter and looking through a couple of envelopes in front of him.

“Is Brooke home yet?” She asked sounding a bit nervous. They had talked a lot while Brooke was in Switzerland and although Taylor didn’t really want me to know I figured it out pretty quickly when she would tell me things that were pretty hard to know otherwise.

“Yeah, she’s actually here with me at the house,” Sid said, knowing he just let off a bomb.

“What? Sidney, what do you mean? Is everything okay between you two? Are you planning a wedding yet?” She asked jokingly.

“No, we haven’t talked yet but she’s not doing very well and she just needed some time away from everything,” He said rubbing a hand over his face. He was pretty tired after the day they had had especially with having worked out with two eighteen year olds for a good three hours. Sid heard some voices in the background on Taylor’s end and could distinctively make out the voice of a guy.

“Well I’ll be home in a couple day’s so keep me updated okay? I feel bad for not being there,” Taylor said quickly. She was in Florida with most of her graduating class as a trip they all planned together after graduation.

“Who’s in your room with you?” Sidney asked, feeling protective all of a sudden.

“No one, I gotta go though, love you and tell everyone else I love them too, especially Brooke, but you can leave out the part about it coming from me, bye.” She said before hanging up. Sidney pulled his phone away from his ear and looked at the screen shaking his head at the fact that she had just hung up on him. He set his phone on the counter and made his way upstairs to see if Brooke was okay. He looked in all the three guest rooms and saw that the bathroom door in the hallway was open so he headed to his room at the end of the hallway to check and see if she was in there. He was a bit nervous thinking about her being in his bed but when he walked in she was nowhere in sight. He saw her purse sitting on the bench at the end of his bed and knew that she had been in here. He turned to look back at the door and was going to look down stairs maybe having passed her on the couch when he heard the shower running. He went over to his dresser and pulled out a pen’s long sleeve shirt and a pair of running shorts for her to put on when she got out. He left them on the side of the bed closest to the bathroom and walked over to knock on the door.

“Hey, I left some clothes on the bed for you to put on to sleep in, okay?” Sidney said waiting for a response. When he didn’t get one he knocked a little louder and called out her name “Brooke?” still no response and Sidney was starting to worry. He opened the door, seeing her clothes laying on the floor and walked in further to see Brooke sitting up against the wall in the shower with the water running over her. Her eyes were closed and he assumed that she had fallen asleep. He stood there for a minute before deciding that she needed to get into bed. He grabbed a towel from the rack and opened the glass door, reaching in to turn off the water. She opened her eyes as he did this but made no real effort to move. Sid kneeled down and wrapped the towel around her the best that he could while he helped her to stand. He wrapped it the rest of the way around once she was upright and Brooke stood their holding it closed.

“Thank you,” She said almost too quiet for Sidney to hear. He looked at her and saw that her eyes were red and puffy and figured she must have been crying. He pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her and placed a kiss on her forehead.

“Let’s get you dressed,” Sidney said unwrapping himself from her and moving to allow her to walk back out into the bedroom. He grabbed her clothes from the floor and brought them out to sit them on the chair next to the closet. Brooke stood next to the bed and reached down to grab the shirt so she was holding it in her hand. She was looking it over and Sidney took the time to really take Brooke in. Her hair was combed back away from her face and he could see now that it was a little more angular. He could tell that she had lost weight when he first saw her that morning, but now wrapped in the towel he could tell that she had probably dropped around twenty to fifteen pounds that she didn’t have to lose in the first place. He walked over to her and took the shirt from her hands and started to put it over her head. She moved to face him so it was easier and she put her arms through one at a time before letting the towel fall to the ground. The shirt reached midway down her thigh and Sid bent down to grab the towel. She reached for the shorts and put them on before shestood up and looked up at him. He was trying to figure out what was going on in her pretty little head.

“Does it matter what room I sleep in?” Brooke asked breaking eye contact and motioning to the door. He so badly wanted to tell her that she could sleep in his bed but knew that he wasn’t ready for that and she didn’t need to be thinking about them right now.

“No, which ever one you want is fine,” He said stepping out of her way allowing for her to head out of the room. She grabbed her bag and her clothes before she left and gave him a tight lipped smile.

He needed to lie down for a bit and think about everything after he threw her towel back in the bathroom. As soon as his head hit the pillow he regretted not telling her to stay with him but he couldn’t run out there and tell her to come sleep with him. Although she said that she still loved him, it didn’t mean that she was ready to forgive him either or that she even wanted to be with him anymore. But truth be told, Sidney didn’t know exactly where he stood with every thing either. He knew he still loved her. She was all he though about on bad days and she was the only one he wanted to come home too after road games. He tried to get over it and had invited Kathy to Sochi but he knew the minute he saw her again that it had been a mistake and that she couldn’t replace Brooke. But it helped to talk to someone about it and Kathy had been a good friend. Sid rubbed her eyes feeling frustrated and rolled onto his stomach thinking about his and Brooke’s phone call the night before the gold medal game.

Sidney had been laying on his bed mentally preparing for their game the following night. They had fought like crazy against the American’s for a spot in the final and he didn’t want to waste it. He knew the Sweed’s had a lot of talent on their roster and they would be going up against one of the best goalies in the tournament. He laid there and tried to think of how their guys played and how he himself had to play in order to come out on top. “Sid, you coming out for dinner?” Shea Webber asked him as he got up from his bed and headed for the door.

“I think I’m going to meet up with my dad in a bit. Go over some stuff,” Sidney said, sitting up to face him.

“Alright, just try to get out of your head a bit, yeah?” Shea said smiling at him before walking out the door. Sid nodded his head understanding what he was getting at. He had been hard on himself the entire tournament, not really getting the numbers he was expecting himself to get let alone what everyone else in the world was expect him to get. He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, pulling him away from hockey momentarily. He looked down to see that his dad texted him telling him to meet downstairs in half an hour. Sid was hoping that it would just be a nice dinner where could try and focus on anything but hockey but he knew his dad was going to want to talk about strength and weaknesses and who was lethal from where. He sighed and quickly replied with ‘okay’.

When he pressed the home button to exit out of his messages he looked down and recognized the pretty smile in his background. He hadn’t changed the photo from Brooke lying down on the couch smiling up at him while she was trying to read one of her files. It hurt looking at how happy she was then and remembering how hurt she had been before he left for the airport that day but he didn’t have it in him to change it. Sid missed hearing her voice and her laugh and seeing her standing in his kitchen in the morning grabbing a cup of coffee still in her pajamas.

He sat there staring at it a little bit longer before he looked at the time. He saw that it was 7:10pm Sochi time making it 5:10pm in Zurich and pressed the call icon before he could stop himself. He stood up and started to pace the room after hearing the first ring. He figured she wouldn’t pick up but even if he could just hear her voicemail message he would be able to calm down just a little bit.

By the third ring he was sure she wasn’t going to answer and his stomach sank a bit but when he heard the line pick up he stopped pacing. “Sid? Is everything okay?” Brooke asked sounding concerned.

“Yeah, why wouldn’t it be?” Sidney asked, a little confused before it sunk back in. They hadn’t spoken to one another since their argument in December and there really wasn’t any real reason for them to communicate. “Never mind,” He said sitting down on the bed. He took a deep breath and sat there listening to her breathe. “Hey, Brooke,” he said quietly.

“Hey Sid,” she said back, catching the nervousness in her voice. He smiled a bit but felt the pain come flooding back all at once.

“I uh, know this is probably going to sound weird and pretty inconsiderate of me considering everything but uhmm….I just…I uh,” Sidney said rubbing a hand over his face.

“Sidney, it’s okay,” she said in a calming voice. He closed his eyes and tried to push everything aside.

“I just really needed to hear your voice. I needed something to sort of calm me down a bit,” he explained hearing her intake of breath. He was going to apologize for calling her, feeling terrible for opening up some deep wounds but she spoke first.

“Well I’m glad you called then, I was uh, going to text you tonight actually, wishing you good luck and letting you know how proud I was but you sort of beat me to the punch,” Brooke said causing for Sidney to smile. She was thinking about him and it brought him a little bit of ease knowing she hadn’t completely forgotten about him.

“Sorry if you were at work or..”

“No, I was actually just watching the Bronze medal game actually so it’s no problem at all.”

“Routing for the enemy?” Sidney asked a little playfully. Brooke chuckled a little bit and let out a deep breath.

“If by enemy you mean Finland than yes, I just want to see the US get their asses handed to them to be honest with you.”

“Well then I guess you’re getting your wish huh,” Sidney said, almost immediately regretting it but Brooke either didn’t register what he had said or just ignored it all together.

“I am, I am,” She said with a light chuckle. Sidney smiled hearing her laugh again even if it was her full happy laugh, it was still something he could work off of. “Well I’m sure you’ve probably got some stuff to do and are going to need a good nights rest for tomorrow, so I’ll let you go,” Brooke said sounding a little bit reserved.

“Uh, yeah, again sorry for worrying you but it helped hearing your voice,” Sid said truthfully.

“Any time Captain. Good luck tomorrow, I’ll be watching,” She said before they hung up. It made his nerves come to life again, not about the game but about the fact that she was going to be watching him play.
….
Brooke woke up and looked around the room she was in. She had had her head shoved under the pillows while she laid flat on her stomach spread out on the bed and figure she probably looked like a mess but sat up and rubbed her eyes. It was still light out outside and figured she had probably only slept for an hour or two but was feeling a lot better. She got up and walked over to her purse that she had dropped on the floor by to door when she had first come in and opened it to find her phone. She saw that it was dead and went to look for Sidney to see if she could borrow his charger. As she made her way down the stairs she noticed that it was a lot brighter than it normally was for late afternoon in Nova Scotia and looked at the clock that hung over the TV in the living room noticing that it read 10:30. She had slept all afternoon and all night without waking up once and shook her head. She saw Sidney leaning against the railing of his back deck and walked out to meet him.

“Hey,” She said shielding her eyes from the sun. He turned around with a cup of coffee in his hands and smiled weakly at her.

“I’m glad to see that you’re still alive,” he said smirking and turning to look back out over his back yard. She rolled her eyes at the back of his head and walked over to join him. His view was amazing. The house lead right out onto the lake and it was secluded but you could still see a large chunk of the water. It was breath taking and reminded her a lot of the cottage they grew up in.

“This is amazing Sid,” she said still staring at the scene in front of her.

“Thanks,” he said nodding his head but not looking at her. He was being cold and she wasn’t surprised by it but after yesterday it had felt like maybe they had taken a step or two in the right direction with one another. He walked to sit down in one of the muskoka chairs sitting on the deck and Brooke stayed where she was. She felt awkward after thinking about everything from yesterday and didn’t really know how to go about everything that she had said. “So are you going to tell your mom about the scans?” He asked right off the bat.

“Yes,” she said, feeling a bit irritated think about how she had to be the one to deliver the news.

“Do you want to head there now?” he asked sitting forward on the chair and taking a sip out of his mug.

“I guess so,” she said shrugging her shoulders and turning back to walk into the house. She made her way upstairs to grab her clothes and figured that it would be best to wear them home rather then Sidney’s clothes. She changed quickly and grabbed all her stuff before heading back down the stairs. Sidney was on the phone standing out in the front of the house when she found him again and he seemed to be laughing with whom ever he was talking to.

“I’ll see you in about a week. I just have some stuff I have to clear up here first before a head out but I’m looking forward to it,” he said before laughing at what ever the other person had said. Brooke figured it was probably Kathy, since she had been in Sochi with him and had heard that they were back together. She’d avoided talking with Taylor about it because she really didn’t want to know that he had moved on but figured that it was better for him to happy than miserable like her. Sid caught sight of Brooke standing behind him in the doorway and quickly turned to look at her. “Yeah, I’ll text you when I've landed and am headed your way, alright, talk to you soon,” Sidney said before hanging up the phone. He hadn’t broken eye contact with Brooke and she could feel herself frowning. She broke their gaze first and closed the door behind her before heading towards his truck. He watched her walk past him before he followed behind her. She wanted to ask him whom he had been talking to, to see if her suspicion was correct but knew it really wasn’t her place to ask. His life was his life now. She didn’t have a place in it and she had to deal with it.

They both got in and Sidney started the truck before pulling out onto the street. The ride was silent for most of the way, not really having anything to talk about until Sidney spoke up. “We’re going to need to talk about us some time soon, but I want you to tell me when you’re ready because you have a lot of stuff you need to deal with.” Brooke turned to look at him, trying to process what he had just said to her. It almost sounded like an insult saying that she had things that weren’t perfect in her life and that she needed to deal with and not get him involved but his face was blank and she really didn’t know what he meant.

“And by stuff that I need to deal with are you referring to my family or me in particular Sid?” She asked glaring at him. She wasn’t impressed with how he had been talking to her that morning and she didn’t care how much she was to blame in their situation; she wasn’t going to deal with him being an ass to her.

“Brooke, you’re being dramatic,” He said shaking his head as he pulled up to a red light and turned to look at her.

“It’s a serious question Sidney, so answer it,” she said feeling the anger welling up inside of her. He just stared at her, no emotions showing on his face. She wanted to slap him for being that way. It wasn’t fair that she wasn’t able to hide anything from him and wore her feelings but he got to sit there as if nothing had been said. He didn’t say anything and she had had enough. Brooke unbuckled her seat belt and opened the door grabbing her purse before climbing out of his truck. They were in the busy part of town so she walked down the street in the direction of her house, not caring to look back at him in the truck. She saw him drive past her and turn down a side street up ahead and was expecting to see him turn around and drive back toward his house except he didn’t. She stopped walking and looked around at her surroundings. She needed some time to cool down before going back home and spotted a café right across the street before she scanned to see if there were any cars coming and darted across to grab a coffee and something to eat.
….

Brooke had eventually made it back home and sat down and talked with her mom about her father’s condition. Trina had stayed the night at their house since Brooke’s mom had been asleep since she had left with Sidney. Her mother cried and she expected it. There wasn’t really any way to react to being told your husband has cancer on top of just having had a massive heart attack and she was relieved to see that she was at least letting her emotions out rather than how Brendan was handling everything. He had been out at practice for most of the afternoon so Brooke told her mom that she would try and talk to him later that night. She decided that she was going to go to the hospital telling her mom to go later that night. Brooke explained that she would call if she found anything out and would see her later.

Brooke was sitting curled up in the chair next to her dad’s bed staring at him with her oncology book in her lap. She had brought it just to try and take her mind off of things but couldn’t help but be distracted by the beeping of the machines and the steady sound of the breathing machine he was hooked up too. Just by looking at him she knew he was going down hill and there wasn’t much they could do for him until he woke up but she sat there hoping he would open his eyes, not even for her but for her mom and brother. She was startled when she heard a throat clear behind her. She turned around to see that it was his doctor, the one from the night before and turned back to look at her father.

“That book seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year,” he said not looking away from the chart. Brooke looked down at the book in her lap thinking about how it was relatively small compared to some of her other books but shrugged her shoulders.

“I wish I could say it’s because they’ve found different ways to prevent cancer or how to cure them but it’s mostly just new forms and case studies,” Brooke explained turning back to him. He smiled grimly and wrote something down.

“It’s scary when you learn about how little we actually know about the human body and disease.”

“It is, but it’s also fascinating,” Brooke said looking at him. He still hadn’t made eye contact with her so it gave her a little time to look him over. He seemed quite young once she got a good look at him and noticed how good looking he was. He was tall and had short sandy brown hair that was longer on the top than it was on the sides. He had a bit of scruff on his face that Brooke usually found too much on some guys but it just seemed to pull out a dark edge on him. He was wearing a dress shirt and dress pants under his lab coat and Brooke could tell that he was well put together and rather muscular. When he looked up from the chart she saw that he had very beautiful hazel eyes that rich in colour and very welcoming. Brooke realized she was staring and that he had caught her so she quickly looked back to her dad lying in the bed but had caught a smile playing on the doctors lips before she had looked away.

“It is, isn’t it,” He said agreeing with her. “So, where are you going to school?” he asked pulling his pen light from his coat pocket and waking up to look in her fathers eyes.

“I went to John Hopkins but I’m actually done now, I uh, did my last semester in Switzerland, so I only got back yesterday,” Brooke said blushing slightly. He had stopped examining her father and turned looking at her.

“You were in the Petrov Program?” he asked rather intrigued. Brooke nodded and bit her lip slightly. “Wow, that’s amazing, congratulations,” he said smiling at her. She smiled back feeling her cheeks starting to blush.

“Yeah it was pretty amazing, I learned so much,” she said thinking back to her last four and a half months of studying. It had been so much to learn in such a short amount of time but she loved every single second of it and got to do so many amazing things that most doctors didn’t see till near the end of the residency.

“I can imagine, I would love to hear about it if you ever want to brag about it,” he said turning back to her father. She couldn’t tell if he was flirting with her or whether he was just genuinely interested in the program. She assumed it was the latter and tried to push the thoughts out of her head.

“Uh, sure, that would great,” She said smiling at him. He returned her smile and walked around to the foot of the bed to write something down in his chart again.

“I’m Lucas by the way,” he said holding his hand out to her. She stood up and took it in hers.

“I’m Brooke.”

“Well it was nice to formally meet you Brooke, I’ll have to let you know when I’m free for that coffee when I see you next, I’ll be looking forward to it,” He said smiling at her before walking back out of the room. She stood there looking after him biting down on her lip and letting out a deep breath. She sat back down and pulled her book back onto her lap smiling about what had just happened. He had been totally flirting with her and it felt nice. There was something cheerful, however small coming to light in her day and she was trying to hold onto it while she sat in her fathers room watching him fight for him life.
